In a previous thread I shared how I had been locked out of my FB account because someone had brought to their attention that my surname was not likely my true surname.
After two weeks of thinking about it, I thought I would set up a new account with my first and middle names and my gmail account, a different account than I had used for FB previously.
Soooo, I enter first and last name (used middle name as surname) and put in different email address and a password I have never used anywhere, for anything.
Up pops a list of suggested friends. Tons of people I have never heard of as well as some of my friends from various parts of my life. What most of them have in common is that they are gmail contacts of mine and also on FB, apparently. I don't think every one in in my gmail contacts list though. I was FB friends with them some, not all of them, on my former FB account. One is a friend of my sister's but my sister has never had a FB account. One is the wife of a friend from church but we were never FB friends.
It all feels so "Big Brother is Watching" to me.
Any thoughts? I haven't completed the steps to start this new account. Feeling a bit uneasy.

FB and Gmail talk to each other. Happens all the time.

Try starting an entirely new gmail address that has absolutely no contacts at all. Never use that gmail address for anything but this facebook account.
That way Facebook can't pull anything from your gmail account because there's nothing to pull.

yah, my kid went to a birthday party once... he was at daycare so would have been 2 years old (he's 11 now). i guess the mother sent a group email invitation. it used to be every time i logged into LinkedIn or FB, she was recommended as someone i may know. and there are *no* other connections. apparently she moved to another country 5 years ago or so... but she still shows up every now and then as someone i may know.... and big brother is watching you... just so you can be marketed to, unless you are open to conspiracy theories!

Maybe it's suggesting people in the same town? I hate the Big Brother feeling.
