Saw this on the BBC about words that children make up. Some crack me up, just to explain inset days are days that children don't go to school as teachers are on training days, there are about six a year. Crooks and grannies (nooks and crannies) Insect days (inset days) Strangled eggs (scrambled eggs - clearly the words sound very similar, and something drastic happened to those eggs so that makes sense) Oglettes (omelettes - because it's hard to say "m" followed by an "l") Snotrils (nostrils) Jumpolines (trampolines) Hippyhoppymus (hippopotamus) Needs and poodles (pins and needles - ripe for interpretation, as we've heard of 'fizzy feet' and 'peas and noodles' also being used) Oopsaglue (superglue) Spaghetti car bananas (spaghetti carbonara) Hockle bockle (hot water bottle) Suggestive biscuits (digestive biscuits) The fourth head (forehead) Under the troll (under control) Dalek bread (garlic bread) Grabs (crabs) and grabsters (lobsters) Farmer Christmas or Farmer Chemist, and his trusty Roodog (Father Christmas and Rudolph) Marks'n'spensive (Marks & Spencer) Alligator (escalator) Uppity or helicokter (helicopter) www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/3B79x5ZX5BVctr2WpzGblYV/the-funny-words-that-kids-invent

Suggestive biscuits (digestive biscuits) I love them all but that's my favourite. I used to work with kids so I've heard a few good ones, one little boy used to come in every morning and ask if he could have a go on the 'computator' another used to tell me that she was a 'vegebellarian'!

My dd would say Fried egg for Friday, and Someday for Sunday. A friend's dd once asked me if my sister was my outlaw sister...she wanted to know if she was a sister in law. Kids are funny!

I said fourth head! Hahaha
My five year old used to say pack ack (back pack) and buggle (bagel - which we've never corrected. We all call them buggles now)

So cute! My DD called sunscreen "Skun-skeen" (which we all use now) and "that's meat" instead of neat. But my favorite was when she made up her mind about something, "I thinked about it and I besided."
I went to church every Sunday and there are several parts of the mass when people say, "Thanks be to God." I thought we were saying, "Thanks, Peter God." (because that was his name...) I remember being so shocked when I could read and I read the response!

For years, I thought it was Ink 'em Taxes rather than Income Taxes. It was the 70s. My dad did them by hand on forms and used ink = Ink 'em Taxes.

I love kids and the little things they say.
YDS (who is 8) has speech issues, so he says many many things wrong and some of them are hysterical. He tends to drop both the beginning and the endings of words. I can't think of anything off the top of my head, but he says some funny things sometimes.
I babysit a 3 year old little girl. Every morning she eats a fruit and grain bar. I have no idea where the term came from, but she calls them Ugga bars. So every day she walks in and asks me for an ugga bar for breakfast.
She also loves peppanoni (pepperoni) and cheese for lunch.

Older dd made us laugh with these:
Ambulance = ambulamb Perfume = fufume Press Democrat = Das Cramanat (This is the local newspaper that dh worked at)
Younger dd had these:
Cabin in the woods = cabinet Shell on the back of a truck = shed It doesn't matter = it doesn't care

When my brother was around 3 he kept saying "oh no. Feeda feist". For the longest no one had any idea what he was saying. Finally one day my grandmother was over and she dropped something. To which she said "oh no. Jesus Christ". And my brother responded accordingly.

My favorite for each kid was Man-Man instead of Superman for my oldest. He was obsessed with Man-Man. For my youngest it was frinkely instead of wrinkly. Every time he got out of the bath he would come running to me and say look mom I'm all frinkely. Love!!

My son always said C3-PP0 when he was little and it stuck so he's now 11 and calls C-3P0 C3-PP0. Makes me giggle.

Triangle = frytangle Grated cheese = grate of cheese When DD was 4 she decided she didn’t want to be a doctor anymore, she wanted to be a “defective” (detective). When DS was in pre-school he told me about "a abornoriginal" man who came to visit (Aboriginal). DS, back in the day: hopitoctor - helicopter pehgehDEEdos - spaghetti My daughter called a helicopter "ahcopper" and my son called it a "howtopper". Spaghetti Bolognese was Basgetti Bozanaze.

My DGS At the age of three went through a period of time where he was crazy about And Aids (BandAids). He would bump his arm and say "Look Nana, I need an andaid" lol. I even scrapped it with photos of him wearing Cars BandAids.

My son used to call Father Christmas 'Farmer Christmas'.
My current favourite, created by the biggest brat on the planet is 'bigly'. I haven't been able to bring myself to say it in public, though.

My older son went through a phase of calling airplanes 'see ya daddy' - we lived in a small town, and the only time he saw them was when we took DH to the airport for one of his frequent business trips. He also called helicopters - 'Helichoppers'

My mum used to say a classic childrens prayer with me that had the line 'pity my simplicity'. As a child, I thought that was 'pity mice implicitly' and I was very concerned about the well-being of mice

I had one student write me a story about a time his dad went to Lost Fagus, Nevada.
Younger students often ask me if I will "lemonade" papers for their teachers (laminate).
Enjoying this thread...makes me smile.

DS, back in the day: hopitoctor - helicopter That seems to be a hard word for little ones to say. Dh had a friend whose son would say "hopticollar" and for our ds it was "heckalopaler". In our house, mandarin oranges were mango oranges, Parmesan cheese was PapaJohn Cheese and mix & match became mitch match.

Callapiders for caterpillars
Shabu for I love you
Dick-Dick for the turn signal
McFrench Fry Donald's for McDonald's
Mazagine and aminals lasted a really long time. I now use mazagine exclusively just to see if anyone says something.

DD1 called lawnmowers "mow-lawners" and a belly button was a "bee bop." We still say bee bop.
Hair conditioner was "crince reme."

Mazagine and aminals lasted a really long time. Ah yes, my brother used to say "aminals" too! There were a few words that he'd get the consonants mixed up: hospital = hostible. My dad taught him how to say it properly by getting him to say "horse piddle" Vietnamese = Vinett-yamese
