I roasted a whole chiken yesterday and then made stock from the carcass. So tonight is chicken vegetable soup and blueberry lemon muffins. Perfect for this cold wet day. Will also do wonders for the cold I have and upper resp infection dd has.
Maybe it will even help with her teen attitude. One can hope right??!!??
Please tell me the lying and backtalk and smart mouth goes away. And soon. Holy poop. The lying is driving me crazy.

We'll probably have leftover pizza and salad...... leannec ....Your evening sounds so fun! I haven't been to the ballet in YEARS.....when we were growing up, my Dad would take us. Then when our nieces were teenagers, they were both awesome ballerinas, and I LOVED seeing "my babies" dance...it made my Auntie heart SO happy! Love the meme! @calimom2....I'll bet your yummy chicken soup soothes all the illness at your house! I can't speak as a MOM, but.....seeing what my family and friends have gone through with teenagers---YES, it DOES end!!! Have you heard the expression " Raising teenagers is like nailing jello to a tree !!!!"

DH is on dinner duty again, as it is Saturday. Tonight, we are having mushroom and pea risotto, with grilled chicken. He is also getting a start on tomorrow's lunch, which will be a beef massumam curry in the slow cooker - it smells really good right now.
We'll be having a quiet evening at home. Just finished watching the football - our team rescued a draw literally in the last seconds of the game. So exciting, but I think our coach was going greyer for the whole 90 minutes!

Stuffed peppers & chopped salad. Warning - move on if you don't want to 'hear' whining. DH & DS think dinner *only* involves the 20-40 minutes it takes to actually cook it each night. They refuse to understand, despite explanations, that dinner involves planning and preparation. I can't MAKE your dinner if the stuff to make it isnt here in the house. Now are there auto pilot meals? Yes BUT that also involves planning and keeping the staples on hand. I made a dinner the other day that took 1/2 hour to cook that night. And the wise acres commented that it was an easy dinner night. I was like WTF only because I PLANNED this week and took the time in the morning to PREP the ingredients. Ok whine over return to your regular dinner thread.

sueg .....everrrrything sounds so yummy! May I invite myself over? I'm getting my plane ticket NOW! We do eat rather well here. We are both 'foodies' - DH despite being brought up by a very unadventurous mother when it came to cooking - and with just the two of us, we can make what we like, without taking other tastes into account. Mind you, both our kids are pretty adventurous eaters and cooks too.

I didn't have to deal with teen girls - I have 2 sons - and didn't get so much lying, but a fair bit of smart mouth. I can tell you they are now in their late 20s and perfectly decent human beings, that I get along with really well. I still get occasional back talk, but it tends to be good-natured - the sort of banter I also have with my siblings.

It's a cool and cloudy day here, perfect for staying in and reading... which is what I'm doing right now. DH has requested a steak for dinner. I love the idea because he likes to prepare his own steak, so have at it. I'll probably hunt around and eat some leftovers. We are both in low gear today and loving it. I'm not sure I can summon up the energy to make myself anything for dinner. leannec, we just had a salad for lunch. It was a Lemon Herb Mediterranean Chicken salad recipe that you shared several weeks back. I just got around to making it and we really enjoyed it. Simple and tasty. A belated thank you!

Dd (14) has Aspergers, so I did some reading. This also happened when she was 7. Between the ages of 5-9 and again when puberty really sets in their brains go through significant changes and develope new cognitive skill sets as well as active changes in parts of the brain.
They are learning that you do something you have different sets of outcomes and tbey dont see the end result of the bad outcome (in her case lying that she did not take my phone when she did). She cant see that she will get grounded and punished and that I will be upset.
Ugh. Today Autism/Aspergers sucks. So she lost the opportunity to go to Fridays school dance. :{

I'm pretty sure of where we're going for dinner tonight. My plan is to have grilled chicken on a Greek salad. I'm pleased with my slow but steady weight loss and need to stay mindful of everything I eat.

Please tell me the lying and backtalk and smart mouth goes away. And soon. Holy poop. The lying is driving me crazy. My DD will be 20 in April and she was a great kid until 12.5 years s old. We survived. She went to college freshman year and came home in Dec a changed person. She realized exactly how much ch I did for her. We've had a couple of disagreements but for the most part we have a very good relationship. AND she is actually very much more honest with me now. The learned from my mistakes with DD and have already begun to mend my relationship with DS. First, if I know the answer to the question, I don't bother asking it. If we need to talk about it i start with a statement and go from there. Decreases the 'lying' . He just needs to realize what a lazy lump he's become and we will be golden. So yes it makes end if they were good kids to start. The rebellion ends eventually.

If they were too late home, it wasn't 'what time did you get home last night?' but 'I now you weren't home until (after agreed curfew) - this is the consequence.' It did take them a surprisingly long tome to realise the front door had a creak, and to oil it!

(DS will be 18 in a few days, and I'm so tired of "I must always have the last word, because all adults, especially my parents (with three masters between them) are stupid.). I called him trumpy the other day, that p!ssed him off.

It's take-out night here. leannec, enjoy the ballet! If I'm going to be away at dinnertime, I make sure there's a dinner that requires nothing more than taking it out of the refrigerator too. @calimom2, hang in there. It does eventually get better, but before it does, you're going to have to go through a lot of sighing and eyerolling. And like miominmio said, you're going to lose several IQ points. I remember my parents being incredibly stupid when I was a teenager. It's a wonder they could even dress themselves. hop2, I can relate. My family thinks I have a magic wand and *POOF* I can make dinner, any dinner, appear. It's frustrating. scrappintoee, to answer your question from yesterday's thread...I find hop2's one word "chili" posts funny because all of us, hop2 included, usually say more. The one word answers strike me as funny. I have a weird sense of humor, what can I say?

It is unseasonably, wonderfully warm here today- about 60-65 and sunny. Ds is going to dinner with a friend, and dh and I want to grill something, so we are off to the store to see what looks good- possibly the marinated chicken they sell. Different favors so everyone gets what they want.

leannec, enjoy the ballet! That sounds right up my alley - a ballet and dinner. But I would make DH cook for himself, but I'm mean like that. hop2, Same here. They think food magically appears or something, yet each person in my family can and does cook. I still can't get ds to realize that if he does want to cook something it can't be spur of the moment for most items, it involves a trip to the store or at least frozen meat thawed, depending. Last week, someone had stuffed cabbage rolls and I've been craving them ever since. Today is the day. With a brown gravy. Gotta go get those yummies started.

I've been absent a few days. Thursday dinner was purely desperation ... I was nearly out of leftovers, had nothing defrosted, hadn't planned anything, wasn't interested in cooking ... but the boys demanded dinner. So I slammed down some Campbell's tomato soup and cheesy toast and the remaining dab of Italian beef in front of them and I don't even remember what I ate. Last night my sister came over to watch TV and we ordered pizza. Today I'm at my monthly all-day crop so that probably means the local Italian place for dinner. Eventually I'm going to have to cook again. sigh @calimom2, I never thought I was going to survive my DD's adolescence, but I did and so did she, and she turned into an absolutely lovely adult. I really like her again now. But damn, she was an annoying teenager.

The other day I asked DSO what is the best thing that I have ever cooked for him. It is his birthday so I thought I'd make him a nice meal to come home to after his camping trip away. He said "That Pete Evan's pork belly." Or, to be more precise: Master-stock Pork Belly with Black Vinegar dressing and Cuttlefish Salad with Nam Jim Dressing Phew, what a mouthful! In the cookbook it says, and I quote: "This is the most complicated recipe in the book, but I'll be very proud if someone gives it a go." Why couldn't DSO have said his favorite dish was spaghetti bolognese?!?! Truth be told, it isn't really that complicated, it just has a shit-ton of ingredients and 4 different elements. I forgot that it has to be started the day before so I had to make a late dash to the supermarket last night and then start cooking at 10:30pm. I took the pork out of the master stock just after midnight. Then for dessert I am making Mint Chocolate Mousse with Peppermint Crisp Crumble. The recipe popped up on my FB feed yesterday and I knew that Peppermint Crisp bars and Cadbury Bubbly blocks were on special this week at the supermarket where I shop (as were some of the other ingredients as it turns out), so perfect timing! Plus DSO loves mint & chocolate. ETA: Obviously not my photos!

We're going to go out for a late dinner after the show ... we'll probably go to our fav restaurant but I'm not sure what I'll have yet So you don't do what I do and spend an hour or so going over the menu on-line before you get there? He is also getting a start on tomorrow's lunch, which will be a beef massumam curry in the slow cooker - it smells really good right now. Yum, that's one of my favorite Thai dishes. Unfortunately my PITA DSO doesn't like it that much because "Waaaaaah, the meat tastes stewy!" Which is complete nonsense of course. I might try making Massaman chicken instead one day.
