Ellie (GSP) is now approximately 4 months old. Fletcher is a 2 1/2 year old Corgi.
They get along fine but....Fletcher has lost ALL of his training, and his couldn't give a shit attitude and dominance is getting out of control.
He is intact, but we have scheduled him to be fixed next month. Ellie will also be fixed in April. He has started licking up Ellie's pee every time she goes outside, then makes this weird freaky clicking tasting noise with his mouth. I looked it up and now know that he is checking to see if she is fertile. Ok I get it, but still, ew. So last week she peed and I just stood on over it so he couldn't get to it to lick it up. HE LIFTED HIS LEG ON ME AND MARKED ME. When I scolded him verbally he snarled at me like a damn wolf. He didn't nip or bite, but was verbally aggressive. I shooed him inside and kenneled him and gave him a stern talking to (I know, I know, but i can't help that I talk to them like they are my kids) He growled at me aggressively the whole time. DH came in and yelled at him and he growled at him too, but finally backed down. Y'all he has never ever growled at anyone, has never been aggressive. I really wsn't scared he was going to bite me, but still worry about this behavior. It was a first, he's not even aggressive with other dogs or our 2 remaining cats. We had a cat pass in November and they hated each other for some reason, but that's the only animal he has had issues with.
So when it's convenient we have started taking them out separately, because he is also so distracted that he won't fully eliminate because he is so worried about wth she is doing and where shes' going. She is still being house trained and has the occasionally accident. He is marking everywhere she has every had an accident - also totally new. He hasn't peed or pooped in the house since he was in the final stages of house breaking 2 years ago. He's had the full run of the house since then, now we have to kennel him when we are gone because he is doing it everywhere. I know he is marking his territory and trying to assert that he is alpha dog because there is a new dog in the house, but how do you stop this behavior? All the corrections in the world haven't helped. He just doesn't care.
DH took them out together this morning because he got up early and I was still asleep and he just wasn't feeling 2 separate trips out. He just wanted to crawl back in bed with his coffee and watch golf. Fletcher ran up on Ellie while she was pooping and was trying to sniff her butt while she was going and he said "fletcher, NO!" Because SHE gets so distracted she'll stop, then we have to wait forever for her to finish going. Fletcher walked away and walked right up to DHand pissed on him! OMG DH WAS SO MAD! He kenneled him for an hour or so, then I took him out and let him run for about 30 minutes. Secluded him to the kitchen and he PISSED IN 3 PLACES in about 15 minutes! He had just gone several times.
I get that this is instinct on his part to dominate, procreate and be alpha, but we have GOT to break this. I love Fletcher TO DEATH, but I can't handle this behavior. Will it get better when they are fixed? I thought by now he'd get used to having her around but it isn't letting up.
If you have any tips I would appreciate it. HELP!
