This makes me recall a fond memory of sunbathing while in college on the grassy hill behind the girl's dorm. We called it Bonner Beach although there wasn't a drop of water in sight. The boys would sit in their windows of the guy's dorm and catcall down to us (nothing offensive; all in fun). Where did you go to school? We did the same thing in Charleston.

Awww brings back memories of going to the pool and slapping on baby oil and Sun-In in the hair.. and just baking away.. Good grief. THEN when I got to busy to do that, we headed to the tanning booths and tan in there. Thankfully, I was probably the one that did it the least amount of times. I had friends who would do this EVERYDAY... I was more of a weekend tanner... I don't now. Last time I think I wanted a tan is when I lost a bunch of weight and went on vacation.. I did tan in a booth for several months.. that was 15 years ago??? I don't care anymore.. lol.. I mean I want the look but not chancing it anymore....
I actually work with a girl, my age, and she still to this day, goes tanning (in the booth) from February to summer and then goes to Florida all summer and stays in the sun... She is getting 'that' old lady look.. and she jokes about it... I just pray she doesn't get skin cancer... it's not worth it!

I see it all the time in Central Park (no water) and on the esplanade (does it count is the body of water is a river and completely inaccessible to the sunbathers?).

Sunbathing, sunbaking, suntanning or just sunning yourself-why do people do it? It's so boring! You lay there for X minutes/hours etc and do nothing. Some people might read, but doing nothing? I hate doing nothing in the heat. I hate the heat though. I am sure it's just me being weird, but I never enjoyed laying in the sun. There's nothing to DO.

I think I have done it once in my life, and it was utterly boring.

I love the heat and the hotter the better. I sit outside by our pool reading all the time in Summer. I do have SPF50 on, with a hat and don't stay out too long before going in the shade but I can understand why people do it.
I wouldn't strip off in public in a park though!

Perfect opportunity to share this lovely photo I took several years ago in Griffith Park. Props to him for being comfortable enough to lay out in a speedo in the middle of LA! Glad I'm not the only weirdo taking photos of nearly naked people in the park! 😂😂😂

We would go to a nice park in Hawaii and sit for a couple of hours but I had trouble just sitting there reading, but then again I have no attention span any longer so sitting and trying to read is almost impossible. My dad reads for hours and hours a day. I can read about 5 pages and even then it's a long 5 minutes.

Yes it is. What do you call it? In the US we typically call it sunbathing. Where I am, a girl in a park is a tiny bit unusual. We are hundreds of miles from a proper beach. The lakes around here don't always have a shore line that is conducive to laying out for tanning. And it is too early in the season for the pools to open (which is generally the place people lay out to tan in the summer months) Most people sunbath in their own yards or by a pool. But this time of year someone in a park wouldn't gather much attention from by passing people (other than guys oogling a girl in a bathing suit) Same here. Much more common to do it in the yard than on the beach. When I worked for UPS we had a driver get busted for spending his lunch hour sunbathing on the roof of the UPS truck - in his underwear. I was the lucky one who had the pleasure of taking the call and having to tell the driver sups. Apparently the secluded rural lane he picked to park on....wasn't as secluded as he thought.

My home town had temps of 46/47 celcius (around 115 F) 2 days in a row and I was disappointed I missed it LOL. We have very dry heat and I find it much easier to cope with than temps 10 degrees lower in the humidity.

AllieC A dry 46 is still a hot 46! It's oppressively hot! How do you survive winter if you like 46 in the summer? You must freeze. It is 6C today here. I am in barefeet and no jacket really. I was fine when I was out. This is my time of year. I love colder weather. I love, love it. But if I needed heat like you, I would be in trouble!

Other people around me were warm but did they not feel the heat??? I am like you guys we can cook eggs on the sidewalk it's so hot. My friend's phone shut off from the heat in the car. That is 6 or 7 degrees cooler than you like and I couldn't take it. It was a dry heat, too as it's the desert there. I stand by aussiestrong.
