Yes, my thread title sounds like a whiny baby.
But.... I'm aching for some new type of embellishment, something different, something we haven't seen.
Is that totally bratty of me?
And the thing is, we have great stuff, and I know that. Enamel dots, Nuvo drops, Stickles, sequins, Thickers, foil, washi, flowers, stamps, ink, chalk, glitter, pattern paper, cardstock, vellum, dies....... and everything else, yes, all great.
So why is it that I want more? And new?
Anyone else feel the same? Need the rush of a new thrill?

I can see feeling that way if you have been doing this for a while. I am new to the sport and just dove into my stash in the past 6 months. Is there anything that you use that could be improved upon? I am thinking how enamel dots are easier to use than brads and now there are the Nuevo drops that are an alternative to the enamel dots.
Or is there some totally non-scrappy thing that could be added to a page? Like the wad of thread or something else that is non-traditional.
I don't know. I am a follower in this hobby not a trendsetter.

I can see feeling that way if you have been doing this for a while. Thirteen years now. Or is there some totally non-scrappy thing that could be added to a page? Like the wad of thread or something else that is non-traditional. This totally reminds me of when we used to put zippers on our pages. I don't know. I am a follower in this hobby not a trendsetter. I'm totally a follower, too.

Now if I can paint with my fingers everyday and get messy, I am in heaven!!!! I found my style and passion. I do it more than scrapping, and now if I scrap I have to include paint and messy. I am SO glad I went out of my comfort zone. I started about 7 years ago and haven't looked back.

This totally reminds me of when we used to put zippers on our pages Zippers. Wow! I missed that one. I remember going to a large crop out of town given by a family that was getting ready to open an LSS. CK had just come out with an issue that had a zipper on a layout. At the crop someone completely scraplifted the layout and the crop organizer held it up for everyone to ooh and ahh over it and how creative it was -completely giving credit to the scraplifter who never mentioned she just copied it out of CK. Because I devoured every new issue I recognized it right away, and on my eval form for the crop I wrote that if the organizers are going to open an LSS they should be aware of the newest trends and give credit accordingly, as the zipper idea was featured in a magazine and not the idea of the attendee.
I completely don't care about inspired layouts and credit, but a complete scraplift needs to be credited.
A large crop I go to now has a page contest and people put in kits all the time and usually win because people vote on the layout they like best. It's a shame to take someone else's kit and put your own photos on it and call it your own.

LavenderLayoutLady I know what you mean. My stash could take me until the end of time but I miss the thrill! I was more interested in the latest scrap products than any other merchandise like shoes or jewelry. I miss having a local store and checking to see if there was one near me on trips. In a way, I'm also over it, but still miss the excitement!

Hee hee! My kids would tell you, LavenderLayoutLady, that it is not safe to say, "I'm bored" around me! I would always give them WORK to do! If you can't find a new line or a new product that excites you, maybe try doing something different. Maybe using the ones you have in different ways? Try making embellishments from things around the house? Or learn some new techniques you've never tried before? Sign up for a small kit club that can surprise you each month without blowing your budget? Or a techniques class? I know you may not have the luxury I have to play with mixed media, leave each layer out to dry, then attack it the next day with something else. Even though I have the space to play with it and leave it to dry(down on the chest freezer, not on my scrap counter) I still don't use it that often until I see something on a blog or on Pinterest that I think I can do, and then--because I don't do this all the time--it feels new and exciting, as long as I can let go of the desired result (which I don't have the skill or probably all the products and definitely not the patience to achieve), and just glory in the PLAY!!! I started out in scrapbooking when there were very few embellishments, and I was a little disappointed that as soon as I learned a technique to get a new look (like texturing with pen and texture plates or stuff around the house, hand embossing with a stylus using old letter stencils or ones I had cut with an Xacto knife, or fussy cutting parts to paper pieced multi layer images) then the "Industry" would start mass producing stuff with that effect that looked better than mine and that everybody could slap onto their projects with no effort at all. The trend continues, because I spent a lot of time and effort and wasted product learning how to apply foil to my cards and pages, and then not only did the Minc come out, but the next season almost every line had foiled elements in it! So instead of learning how to MAKE stuff, I had to learn how to USE it in new ways. I hope you find something soon that brings the fun back into this hobby for you. I miss the "good old days" too: would love to walk into a drugstore and see seven different papercraft magazines on the shelf, or drive home from the post office in a state of high excitement because of the pizza box sitting on the car seat waiting to be opened and let out all its glory. And I fall into the trap too of wanting to be surprised and also wanting complete control over what my money is going for!

I suggest trying something old. Create a shaker box, pick up long-ago discontinued Chatterbox Mailboxes (or other blast from the past embellishment available at Tuesday Morning), or expand or introduce existing techniques. Hope you can recharge...

Maybe you could try DIY embellishments. I've seen lots of videos on youtube and pins on Pinterest. That could help you feel creative without getting messy. I'm not one for the messiness of mixed media stuff either. Or you could try a new-to-you mini album style.

Oh, LavenderLayoutLady, I so get this. I've gone through this feeling a couple of times myself. Since I also art journaling now, I usually take a break from scrapbooking and do that. Prior to art journaling, I have done several of the above suggestions as well as some that haven't been suggested yet. - made my own embellishments - joined a swap - picked an old item and tried to really incorporate it into my layout in a new way - picked an old item and tried to see how many ways or just how many/much I could use it on one layout. - joined a challenge - made some cards using only scraps Hope your thrill returns.

This totally reminds me of when we used to put zippers on our pages Zippers. Wow! I missed that one. I was big time into zippers. Bought a bag full at a garage sale! I put all my buttons into mason jars on a shelf where I can see them. Enjoying using them more.

I had an idea - what if instead of a new product you got on something like Photoscape and played around with photo editing, like borders and collages and stuff. There are some fun new things you can do with your pictures.

Anyone else feel the same? Need the rush of a new thrill? I hear you. I've got so much scrappy stuff, some of which I haven't ever used, some of which I'll probably never use ... and it's like I've got a closetful of clothes and nothing to wear! I too want something new, something exciting, something to inspire.
