my youngest is 10 and wears a kids size 10 (she's 55/56" tall and 83 lbs) BUT she's developed curves (hips/breasts) and the girls sizes aren't fitting as well. Any suggestions for where to look for clothes for her that are age-appropriate, not too girly/trendy (she's a tomboy and at least 60% of her wardrobe comes from the boys dept), and will fit better without being a foot too long.

Stores that market toward teens (American Eagle, Hollister, Delia's, Aeropostale, A&F) are prepared for curvey figures in tiny sizes and often can be found in short/petite. And while you can certainly find more mature styles than I'd be comfortable with my 10 yo wearing, I've never *not* found a good selection of basic t's, polos, etc.

I agree with Kerri W and check out old navy...
Petite size 0 might work for her

We went through this....do you have a thrift store close. Let her go in and try many diffrent styles. At that age they can find a style without being to adult...plus used clothes...save money. The growth spurt is right around the corner.

Thank you all - good ideas and I'll check those out when we go into the city. I think the only teen-oriented store we have locally is Rue 21 and even my 16 y/o won't wear the clothes there.
@leowife - we have a Goodwill and I do look there but it's pretty dismal on clothes - mostly WM stuff that priced very similarly to WM new prices but NOT new condition

Thanks @leowife - we do have a JCpenneys but no kohls. DD is anything but interested in cute/fashion forward - she wants to wear plain jeans and Star Wars or Lego tees...I just want the jeans to fit

Unless she has long legs for her height, you might need to have her jeans hemmed. I'm just under 5' with a 28/29 inch inseam. I like to buy my jeans at Maurice's. They have X-short length (usually 29 in inseam) online and they come in very small sizes.

iamkristinl16 - I wish ...no she has short legs for her height* and the girls' 10s are a tad long. I detest hemming, sigh. I didn't think about Maurice - we have one of those too - I'll check there. *three kids and only one takes after me in leg length...the middle one who is 5'3" and 29"inseam. My oldest (6'3" with 32" inseam - the same as mine and I'm only 5'8") and so far the youngest take after DH who is short-legged at 5'7" and a 29" inseam.
