I need a hand held vacuum for my basement steps. It doesn't matter if it is cordless or corded, but what do you have and do you like it? It would need to handle a fair amount of pet hair. tia.

I have an Oreck. The canister can be set down or slung over the shoulder. It has a wonderfully long cord, and a great hose with a couple of attachments. I use it predominately for my furniture and curtains, I have two cats and it works wonders. It's about 12-15 years old and is still good as new. Totally worth spending the money on IMO.

Miele. Hands down THE very best vacuum cleaner I have ever owned and worth every penny paid.
I've owned two Dysons, a Shark, an Oreck and various Hoovers. I bit the bullet last year and bought a Miele that was on sale at Amazon. You can't go wrong with it.

Dyson handheld (even though I don't like the uprights). The handheld is cordless and rechargeable. Great sucking power!

Save your money and get this. I have stairs in my house and this is the only thing I use for the stairs and my furniture. I've had it over 8 years and it's still going strong. I'll get another when/if this thing ever dies. ETA: I have a dog and a cat who are constantly blowing their coats all over the stairs and furniture. I also have a dyson, and this thing works better on the furniture.

we have the cordless Dyson stick vac, and we love it. I think the canister is a bit small, but it handles pickups of hair from our three Shelties and three cats just fine!
