I think that people will be finding out more and more that their support for him is going to come back and kick them in the head.
Just like coal miners, the loved he said he would give them jobs--but at the same time demolished the ACA and any pre-existing they had.

The minute he put Goldman in at Treasury and State after bitching and moaning for MONTHS about Hillary's Goldman connections, the unthinking should have seen the light and realized they'd been scrod.

The Town Halls that the GOP are doing this month (200 less than past years) have not gone well for them. The ACA approval rating continues to grow and they are letting their GOP leaders know about it. The thinking now is that the GOP is rethinking the outright dismantling of ACA and work over the next year or two (before 2018 elections no doubt) to rework it to me more in line with what they think it should be. Leaving in tact pre-existing conditions and other of the more popular things about ACA.

I remember reading somewhere that she has a transgender sister and thinking "how can you sing for this man?" I think her tweet is heartfelt, but that she seems also pretty naive (I know next to nothing about her, so I could be off base).

Now that Trump's policies affect someone she cares about she speaks up. Too bad she didn't care enough about all the people everyone knew were going to be hurt by a Trump presidency enough to decline to be part of his inauguration.

Too bad she didn't care enough about all the people everyone knew were going to be hurt by a Trump presidency enough to decline to be part of his inauguration. The common denominator in all of the people I know or know of who now regret voting for Trump is that they belatedly realize the negative impact on themselves. In other words, they didn't give a shit when his policies were only going to affect others, "those people." Selfish and short sighted seem to be the common character traits.

A quote at the time when it was reported that she would be singing: "[Fans] are upset for the wrong reasons. I'm not involved in politics," she said ahead of her January performance. "I'm doing this because it's a privilege and an honor to perform for my country." ...let me just add a little to that.......an to further my career I'll sell my soul to the devil. Hypocrite!

The inauguration may have been just another job for her. Remember, she is just only 16.
I think many more people will be feeling the same very soon. And I totally agree with the Goldman thing, if that didn't sway people that he was a bullshitter, nothing will.

You can look up your representatives online, check their FB pages, Twitter feeds & websites, connect with a local group (in IL we have Action for a Better Tomorrow which grew out of Pantsuit Nation after PN decided not to be a political org - it's great because they post vetted action items, not the copy/paste/share FB ones that may or may not be legit or effective). I'm sure there's a local group near you that has been gathering info about town halls. Save

There was a website someone linked to that you could put in your zip code and all the ones closest to you would pop up on a list. I'd have to do some digging to find it again unless someone else here knows offhand and can link I think up again. ETA: It was here: IndivisibleYou can also check the web pages for the house and senate and the official ones should be listed for your specific representatives if they have any scheduled.

BUT the fact that so many others like Jennifer Holliday backed out should have given pause to even a 16 year old. My 14 year old knows where he stands on things like Transgender issues, so I'm not cutting her too much slack.

Playing devil's advocate here...
Do you think she has any better chance at him lending an ear because she did *not* turn down the inaugural ceremony?
Maybe she (and her people) understood his leanings but thought this might be a way to increase their influence?
(Not that he listens to anyone, but...)

Do people realize that there are a lot of people who wanted Obamacare gone but are okay with Affordable Care Act, not realizing they are the same thing? So a whole bunch of folks voted Trump just because he was anti Obama/Hillary not thinking that the things he would be undoing would affect them.

Hopefully he will agree to meet with her. I'm guessing that he doesn't have a lot of people around him right now advocating for the rights of people who are transgender.
Did folks see the recent study that linked a decline in LGBTQ suicides to marriage equality? Our policies really do make a difference, and it is depressing to see the wheel turning in the wrong direction on transgender rights (although I am heartened by my own state's strong statements in defense over the past few days).

Slightly off topic, but that has really pissed me off about our current congress. They've bitched for 8 years. 8 years! They have been fighting to repeal ACA all this time, so why don't they have their "better" plan ready to go? Why are they just now trying to come up with a plan? All of their energy goes to obstruction and opposition.

Jackie is but a child who has a lot to learn about politics/life. So I cannot fault her. How many of us have learned more about politics this past 3 years than we've known about most of our adult lives? I know I have.

I saw her and her sister on GMA today. Her sister goes to the school district right near us, so her sister has been in our local news about the bathroom bill.

Even if she is only 16, I'm sure she has adults who have offered guidance, so I have a difficult time that now she has decided to take exception to his stance.
And for those folks who haven't changed their tune after Trump installing Goldman in at treasury, I think many don't have a 401K or investments at all, so it's an abstract concept. To them, whatever Trump said was bad if Clinton or Obama did was BAD. They promptly forgot about it once he was in office. (at the end of the day, it boils down to a lot of sexism and racism for this one)

All of their energy goes to obstruction and opposition. Yup. Well, they don't all agree and obstruction is easier than coming up with a new plan. I think many thought they'd dismantle piece by piece but now their President says it'll all be done at the same time and it will be healthcare for everyone that's better and cheaper. Good luck with that. Anyway, to link healthcare to transgender issues... I work at a place that helps these kids. They've made small gains with getting care covered (meds/hormones, mental health, etc) by insurance and doing advocacy work including at schools. The bathroom issue is a stepping stone to the revocation of more rights. Save

To all of you who say that she should have known better and have difficult time with her changing her mind. Isn't that EXACTLY what we want people to do? To change their mind about Trump and speak up about it! So I applaud her!
