Bear with me, but I am just thinking out loud here. WHERE are the previous Presidents on the turmoil that is happening? I know they can't DO anything but DAMN, I am sure they have some incredible insight as to what is going on. Radio silence? ??

Good question. I suspect that they are biding their time and letting Trump dig his own hole, as the saying goes. But who knows?

What are they supposed to do? George senior is in fragile health
Clinton can't say much as he is married to 'the sore looser'
George junior? I'm sure Trump would only point out how badly he beat his brother so whatever he said would be drown out
Obama? He has already dealt with this jerks attacks for 8 years. Why would he want to invite more? I'm sure we will hear from him, but he will wait until it can make an impact

I think they could speak out (and should if things continue to deteriorate) but am not sure how effective it would be.

While it feels like Trump has been in office for years, it's only been just over a month. A month of destruction, but a month, nevertheless.
I think the former presidents have to sit out a bit. I think it's the respectful and correct thing to do right now. I also don't think it matters at all what anyone says, as we can see.
Trump was absolutely right when he said he could murder someone and people wouldn't care.

There is also Carter.
Individually they all have issues - as stated above.
However, speaking together, they would be powerful.
They, together saying, this is not normal. This is not Dem philosophy or GOP philosophy. This is, in so many ways, beneath the office of President of the United States of America, etc. would be powerful.

There's not a whole lot they can do beyond publicaly condemn what Trump is doing if they disagree with it. Perhaps they are all keeping their silence so that they are not seen to be "interfering" with Trumps administration.

They spoke out before the election, when they all stated they would not vote for Trump didn't they? (Obvious for Clinton and Carter, but a big deal for both of the Bushes at the time). I imagine now they besides health concerns they don't want to be seen as trying to undermine a sitting President/the government. What can they really do? I don't know the history, did former presidents speak out against Nixon?

I would imagine right now, Obama is staying silent because it's still early days.
W, would be ignored or ridiculed by Trump.
Clinton would be laughed at and reminded that Trump won by a landslide.
However, I do think that all together they could make a huge statement.

It is presidential protocol to not speak out about the new President. Though my guess is that Trump will leave them no choice but to do so.

I checked and it's an unwritten rule that ex-presidents don't criticize a sitting president.
However I suspect trump's actions may change that before too long.
When I saw who was going to give the rebuttal to trump's speech on Tuesday my first thought it should be President Obama instead of the ex governor of Kentucky.
The response from the right would be something to see.

It just seems so hard to believe this has been only ONE MONTH! I think I just had wishful thinking that they would ride in on their horses and save us all! Maybe they need to start putting anti-depression mess in the drinking water.

My knee jerk reaction is "say something, already!" but I think individually they would be easily attacked. And it's early, it only seems like forever. If they did decide to say something, maybe a joint statement from them all, on both sides of the aisle, when the time is right? (wait a bit?)
I don't know. I bet they want to scream but can't. Right now.

Here's Obama.
/video/1
Oh, this must be eating Trump up. Obama gets to swan around to adulation, while Trump has to slave away in the White House w/people second guessing his every move.
Karma, Kramer.

It is presidential protocol to not speak out about the new President. Time will tell how this plays out. Bush Sr. already let it be known he voted for Hillary, that's normally not done. Who knows? They might say something.

Honestly, as much as I want to see Trump contained and removed, I think that having retired presidents avoid getting involved in critiquing current presidents is a good custom to respect.

Normally I would agree with you and think I still do. But this is not "normally" so if they did find a way to speak out in a constructive way I may change my mind. This whole DJT Inc mess has got me in a whole new realm of craziness.

I read an OP somewhere that criticized President Obama for something he said/did (sorry, don't remember the details) after he left the Whitehouse because it broke tradition. It might have been something to do with the foundation he's working with? Anyway, it will be interesting to see if the 5 continue to hold their tongues.

Do they really need to say anything? Is there anything left to say that people currently in office, White House staff, the media, and countless Americans are not already saying? The former presidents did their time taking crap from America. Now they get to relax and let the new guy take the heat. And, in Obama's case, to wave to his groupies. I wish President Obama peace, but I also kind of wish that enormous crowds of well-wishers will keep being taped swarming around every time he shows up to do something even as mundane as getting coffee. You know, just because I can be immature too sometimes and I definitely see the fun in imagining Trump's reaction to the Obama fan club.

They are all part of a very exclusive club. A fraternity of sorts. As such, they don't publicly turn on each other. What happens in office, stays in office kind of thing.
