Welcome to March.
Let's try a recipe challenge. The ingredients are:
All types of projects count (paper, digi, hybrid, PL, art journaling, anything else you create) and if you share your projects online please link them here so we can admire and leave some love. You can find instructions to post in the Refupeas gallery in this thread but shout out if you need help.

I know exactly which photos I'm going to use, but I suck at embellishment clusters. This is definitely going to be a challenge for me! ... Here you go! Had to blur the kids' faces. Sucky clusters if you can even call them that, but I always go pretty light on embellishments. Overall, this was a pretty easy "recipe." I'll probably try it again. Thanks Chinagirl828

I want to learn how to do those separated clusters. I always love them on other peoples pages, but never quite get there on my own. Thanks for the challenge!

I to need to learn to do the clusters. I have plenty of embellishments. Just never learned. I think this would be a good time to experiment

I'm another one that needs to learn how to cluster. Perfect challenge for us to try! Thanks Chinagirl

msliz you were lightning fast on this one! The dragonfly background paper is so pretty and I really like the little tractor heading across the bottom of the page. Adorable layout.

I learned a lot about clusters from watching Glitter Girl. If you like videos she has one on clusters here (warning it is long at about 35 mins): Glitter Girl clusters without complexityThe layout starts at about 9:15 and the embellishment clusters start at about 18 mins. She talks you through how and why she chose the pieces that go in the second embellishment cluster at the 29 min mark which follows straight into putting the third cluster together. Two things Shimelle frequently does to put clusters together which I have found useful: * the invisible lines that connect your embellishment clusters run through the most important things on your page. So if you do three clusters the triangle should include your photos, journaling and title. * build different sized clusters. She talks about this in the video linked above at the 18min mark.

Thanks for the video recommendation! After watching it, I think I can say that I think part of my problem is that I just don't have all the material stuff that she uses for her clusters. Maybe I'll have an easier time making clusters for baby pages, since I have lots of baby themed stuff on hand.

I like your clusters, msliz. Such a clean and simple LO. Puts all the emphasis on the photos. I finished mine tonight, and will photograph and post tomorrow. I have the 3 clusters, but not enough white space to make them very effective. And I didn't use the pint/quart/gallon formula I thought I was going to use. This page is going to be worth A LOT in Calvinball, though!

If you are using 3 colours, or 3 patterns or 3 clusters, the pint/quart/gallon formula means you use a little (pint) of one, more (quart) of the second, and the most (gallon) of the 3rd. I was thinking of applying it to the 3 clusters but they kinda got away on me.

I think I can say that I think part of my problem is that I just don't have all the material stuff that she uses for her clusters. Her clusters tend to be pretty product dense but I definitely think you can replicate the idea with fewer supplies. Even just a small scrap of paper and one embellishment can be enough.

Here is my page, messy as it is! It has 3 clusters, and I guess if the title didn't look like a 4th one, the page would look less cluttered. keep Snapping2 by Gramma Dee, on Flickr

grammadee your title feels as if it's part of that bottom cluster rather than a fourth grouping so I don't think it's cluttered. I left you some love in the gallery.

I ran out of time to post this last night. I think I got all the ingredients in. I have more than 2 patterned papers however. Kayla 2015-6 by Nylene Budge, on Flickr

I love every ones layouts they all look great.
Thanks for the link to glitter girl. I will have to check that episode out.
I really like your clusters Dawn and your use of washi tape. I'm thinking I need to add a bit to the layout I'm working on and thing the washi and maybe a tag will help. I'm using a heavily patterned background paper though so we will see if it will work.

Scrapper100 try using some solid or soldish Washi on heavily patterned paper. It gives a nice ground and place for the eye to focus. And draw attention to your cluster.

I love everyone's layouts! I haven't tried tackling this challenge yet. The "2 patterned papers" is throwing me for a loop!

The "2 patterned papers" is throwing me for a loop! As in you normally use more or less? Either way, we're pretty flexible on the rules. The real goal is to use your stash so even if you use this as a starting point and end up with something wildly different it's served the purpose.

I had an idea that might work while staying within the recipe.

Done! I love this page. So much so that I blogged about it here. Technically, I used only two pieces of patterned paper. I just used both sides of each paper and one of them had a bunch of patterns on it. I also used used this for the Bash It Challenge. I used up my packs of feathers and flair. So happy about that!

lilacgal, I love your layout. I love the kraft paper at the bottom that really grounds it. Your embellishments are great. Love that feather. I love, love, love all your circles.
