i ask because - i read a buzzfeed article yesterday it was titled something like - tips from black women that will benefit all women first up was - use a washcloth the author went on to say that she was shocked that white women don't use them i made a weird face and thought 'i wonder if everyone uses a washcloth' i did read the rest of the tips - only some were actually applicable to me - one was touting the benefits of vaseline others like - a method for curling hair - didn't apply so my question is do YOU use a washcloth in the shower/bathtub? gina Buzzfeed Article

I used to use those shower poufs... then I went to a hotel n forgot my pouf so I used the wash clothe... i felt like it actually cleaned my skin... whereas with the pouf it seems to like just cover me with bodywash but not really scrub or clean... so I tossed the poufs n went back to wash clothes... feels better to me..

Yes - I use the Salux Japanese washcloths and have for about the last 5 years, before that I did use a proper old fashioned washcloth. I use the clarisonic on my face.
ETA after reading the article, I also always sleep on satin pillow cases because it's gentler on your hair.

I use my hands. I've tried various things but always go back to just using my hands.
ETA I use a little brush for my feet.

My one son uses a poof, but the rest of us use washcloths. Except for the back of my arms, where I use one of those exfoliating gloves.

I switch back and forth. Sometimes a pouf, sometimes those "exfoliating" gloves (which don't work near as well as those Korea Italy towels the peas made me buy), sometimes just my hands and occasionally a washcloth. It depends on the season, how dry my skin is, whether I've exfoliated lately, etc. I also switch between bar soap and body wash.
Did it say what the benefit of using a washcloth was over one's hands or other bath time accoutrements?

I use a washcloth. When I used shower gel or body wash I used a poof, but when I switched to just plain ol' Dove soap I started using washcloths. The Dove leaves my skin much more moisturized than anything else I've ever tried, and the washcloth works best with it.

I just use my hands and soap. Not usually a washcloth.

No, I don't use a washcloth in the shower, ever.
The only time I use ine in the bath is if I have a headache and I get the washcloth wet with warm water and then put it over my eyes.
I also think it matters whether you have a mounted or a moveable shower head, though. I can never figure out hot to get clean with a mounted shower head (like in a hotel). I detest them.

No, but only because my shower has extra shower heads that spray horizontally which makes it easier to get clean. Jen

Sometimes I use a bath pouf, sometimes I use a washcloth. I think a washcloth makes me feel cleaner. And I like bar soap, it makes me feel cleaner, too.
And I always use a washcloth (gently) on my face.

Face gets just my hands. Body gets pouf. That's what I do. My mom and sister use washcloths for washing their faces. We all call them facecloths around here.

I only use a washcloth if i'm in a hotel. Otherwise, I alternate between a pouf, loofah, or those Korean towels all the peas bought

I use a brush on the bottom of my feet if they have gotten unusually dirty and a brush on my back since I can't reach all the way back there.

exfoliating gloves for me. Or, if the cats have run off with them, just my hands (mostly because I don't realize they're gone until I'm already wet and can't get out and make other accommodations)

This white girl uses a washcloth. So does my wife. They are changed every shower. I never realized they were in any way, shape , or form a "race" thing, or so "out". Oh well... 😉 I did go through a 10 year or so period of time of using a poof, but found I like the washcloth better. It feels cleaner since they are changed with each shower and there's no way to clean a poof. I would replace them frequently, but still...

this might be a good place to say
when i was in the army - i became a fourth room mate to 3 black women
i learned a lot
just things that people - with different cultures - might not know about one another
i learned that hygiene habits do vary by culture, more than i thought
a shower for me - was efficient - get in, get out
for my roommates it was more elaborate -
i actually found myself questioning my own habits
and they used baby oil after instead of vaseline
those 3 women taught me so much -
