This was reporting back in November. But it looks like it may have been true based on the chatter today about this info coming out. heatst.com/world/exclusive-fbi-granted-fisa-warrant-covering-trump-camps-ties-to-russia/"Two separate sources with links to the counter-intelligence community have confirmed to Heat Street that the FBI sought, and was granted, a FISA court warrant in October, giving counter-intelligence permission to examine the activities of ‘U.S. persons’ in Donald Trump’s campaign with ties to Russia. Contrary to earlier reporting in the New York Times, which cited FBI sources as saying that the agency did not believe that the private server in Donald Trump’s Trump Tower which was connected to a Russian bank had any nefarious purpose, the FBI’s counter-intelligence arm, sources say, re-drew an earlier FISA court request around possible financial and banking offenses related to the server. The first request, which, sources say, named Trump, was denied back in June, but the second was drawn more narrowly and was granted in October after evidence was presented of a server, possibly related to the Trump campaign, and its alleged links to two banks; SVB Bank and Russia’s Alfa Bank. While the Times story speaks of metadata, sources suggest that a FISA warrant was granted to look at the full content of emails and other related documents that may concern US persons. The FBI agents who talked to the New York Times, and rubbished the ground-breaking stories of Slate ( Franklin Foer) and Mother Jones (David Corn) may not have known about the FISA warrant, sources say, because the counter-intelligence and criminal sides of the FBI often work independently of each other employing the principle of ‘compartmentalization’." Ho boy.

Follow this tweet stream for a nice summary of all the times the FISA has been reported on, which apparently Trump just found out about this morning. Or perhaps this morning it has dawned on him that the jig is up?

Shit is gonna hit the fan and I, for one am completely okay with this taking it's time and getting all it's ducks in a row. When that lunatic goes down, I want it to be in complete and total flames and take a few of his buddies down with him.
After reading the NYT article this week about how WH officials within the Obama administration since after the election and up to days before the inauguration due to intelligence they received from both the Dutch and the Brits have been purposely documenting, archiving, even going so far as asking certain questions within transition meetings to have the responses on official record and then safekeeping them because they were concerned said intelligence and documentation would some how turn up missing and they wanted to make sure that didn't happen, I'm more and more convinced that we are all in for epic political history soon.

I'm waiting for the noose to close around Trump's neck. The only thing that concerns me is that Trump has not shown to be smart enough or adept enough to have pulled off colluding with Russia without leaving a trail even more visible than what is coming to the surface. He really isn't all that bright.

I think it would be safe to say our government is spiraling toward a crisis.
trump and his entire administration, including Pence, need to go. Ryan and McConnell need to go as well for not doing their damn job. And Comey needs to go because if the FBI had evidence that trump was in cahoots with Russia prior to the election and did nothing then he didn't do his job either.
And Comey is beginning to look very suspect because the letter about nothing released 9 days before the election and the fact he refuses to answer questions put to him by the Senate Intelligence Committee.
And by "got to go" I mean resign.
Forget trump's erratic behavior, how can anyone trust this administration where everyway you turn is Russia and the leadership on the right is willing to overlook that because they won?
I tend to look at politics with a certain amount of amusement. But this isn't funny anymore.

I will admit to being confused. If the warrant was granted in October and if Trump is guilty, why is there not evidence of his guilt being produced?

I will admit to being confused. If the warrant was granted in October and if Trump is guilty, why is there not evidence of his guilt being produced? I think that is the $50,000 question. Although from what I understand the FISA warrant was pretty narrow in it's focus and centered on a server in Trump Tower they suspected of being tied to a Russian bank. I admit I just briefly skimmed the article so there is probably much I missed. And I believe it was announced they had found no suspicious transactions. So I'm not sure if Trump just learned of this FISA warrant now despite it being reported in several major newspapers or if his tweets are referencing something completely different.

So just for kicks, I clicked over to foxnews.com. This supposed wire tapping by Obama isn't even one of the top 9 stories on the home page (all Republican politics of course, because what else is news).... methinks even the folks at Fox know this isn't going to be good for him. And of course they have buried the Sessions talk a few bullet points further down from that. But in the interest of full disclosure, I couldn't stomach clicking either story to find out what they said. And I was afraid my iPad would explode into a heaping pile of dung if I spent too long over there.

I will admit to being confused. If the warrant was granted in October and if Trump is guilty, why is there not evidence of his guilt being produced? If true, it could be an enormous conspiracy. It takes plodding and following meticulous processes. It is not reality tv where things need to be wound up in 22/44 mins. I'm glad it's taking a long time. I still have faith that there are enough in the gov't who will not stand for us being sold to Russia for $500 billion in goodies for the complicit.

If this investigation is as big as it seems to be - and it is going to cover a lot of people in a lot of crap - there are no second chances. Everything has to be done absolutely by the book - every i dotted, every single t crossed.
With the way the Trump supporters have been willing to overlook the pussy grabbing and threats against the press, this issue has the potential to cause a huge schism - even bigger than already exists. Some Trump supporters will never turn against him - no matter what evidence is produced. But there needs to be iron-clad, solid smoking gun style "here's video of Trump telling Putin that he will take the 19% share in Rosneft in exchanged for lifting sanctions" and "here's the audio of _______ arranging with __________ to hack the DNC server in exchange for $xxx, xxx and here's the paper trail showing the money changing hands."
As they say in Game of Thrones - if you come at the king, you'd best not miss. If they go after Trump and co. and don't have the goods, there won't be a second chance. Just look at Turkey and how Erdogan cracked down after the failed coup against him. Trump is 10X more vindictive and petty than Erdogan. This has the possibility of not taking down only Trump, but a whole lot of the GOP as well. They need to get everything straight so there isn't anyone who is compromised left in a position where they can continue to harm the nation.
I'm not impatient at all. Watergate took 2 years. We aren't even 2 months in and things are coming out faster than I had imagined. I had expected at least 6 months before the dam broke open.

I will admit to being confused. If the warrant was granted in October and if Trump is guilty, why is there not evidence of his guilt being produced? It's probably an ongoing investigation. Now that he's announced it to the world, I have read it's now declassified and should be available through FOIA requests. I'm sure they are being written at this moment. I also read that the WH Counsel Don McGahn is in DC scrambling to find the order.

Comey limited what he told Congress because 1) he feared leaks or 2) they are still investigating and he didn't want to burn sources. I actually feel bad for Comey at the moment. I know that I was at one point in a situation where I knew some information about something that would have changed everyone's opinion about a certain incident, but I was told to please not talk about it on social media, etc. because the person in charge was taking care of it and didn't want the rumor mill getting ramped up. I was seen as the bad guy for something where I most definitely was not. Eventually, the truth came out. I'm still waiting on apologies from some people who said some very unkind things about me, and I know I'll never get them. This was for some stupid little thing, not a huge thing where everyone in the US is watching and judging you. I tried not to care, but knowing that there were people spreading lies and saying horrible things that had no basis in reality was definitely not fun. That's OK, the people who said it got a bit of a reputation as being shit-stirrers and I became more of the zen person who just let it slide off my back. In the end, when everything comes out, I have a feeling that some people are going to change their opinions on Comey. The ones who thought he was a great patriot for releasing the info on the Hillary e-mails will all of a sudden determine that he's an awful person, totally unreliable, and obviously partisan and against Trump. Others who thought he was a horrible guy for releasing the info will (maybe) revise their opinion if it turns out he was pressured to do so and was trying to keep ahead of threats of leaks. If it turns out that he was a patriotic hero who was willing to put country first (unlike almost every GOP congressman so far), his name will be fondly remembered in the history books. The horrible thing is that if it comes out that there was complicit cooperation with the Russians - how deep does this go? Who is compromised? I would say certainly those on the top as well as some in the cabinet. McConnell? He definitely was willing to overlook this back before the election. And if Trump and Pence are gone, we're left with Ryan. Do we trust him? And should the party that colluded with a foreign power to steal an election be allowed to stay in office? Our constitution doesn't allow for a do-over, but I can't imagine that the majority who did not vote for Trump would be OK with allowing that party to stay in office. It will get very, very messy and there will be a lot of very angry people. Watergate would be just a mild ripple in the pond, this would be more like a huge asteroid crash landing in the ocean. Save

Holy smoking gun! It will certainly be interesting to see this play out. On a somewhat unrelated note, a protester suggested that people start using the term "Trump and the Republicans" instead of just Trump. The Republicans let this group of bizarre humans take over the party, and they need to be held accountable when the Russian situation starts unraveling. The American public saw this coming a mile away. Many of them know exactly what's going on, but have chosen to look the other way. Greedy traitors, if you ask me. And even more unrelated, gardengoddess, you need to post more often, because your avatar is so hilarious. I watch those penguins over and over, and laugh every.single.time.

SaveI would agree with your first paragraph except that he very publicly came out with a statement about Hillary Clinton that threw the election. If it were simply about not releasing info, that would be one thing, but purposefully releasing information because he was "pressured" means that he was completely incompetent to be head of the FBI. The head of the FBI shouldn't cave to pressure from anyone. That should be in the job description, if it isn't there already. I think that the difference between Comey and your situation is that he is the boss, the top dog, the person in charge of the FBI - literally. If we were talking about an agent under him, that would be analogous to your situation, but he was the top of the chain of command, which you, apparenrly weren't. (I'm sorry such a crappy thing happened to you, btw).

So curiosity (and boredom) got the best of me... went back to foxnews.com. They had bumped the stories up to the top of the page by this evening. And there was a video clip that I watched- no idea who the 3 hosts were or which show it even was. When the one guy basically said (paraphrasing) that we don't know the answers to all of the questions (being raised in their discussion) because this is breaking news that we are getting straight from the President's Twitter account. FFS are you kidding me!?!? Is that the definition of fair and balanced? Between that statement and their theory that it was the Obama administration who actually was in cahoots with the Russians to bring down Trump, I finally had to turn it off before I lost it on my poor innocent iPad. Not to mention that on NPR today someone was talking about how it is evident from Trump's Tweets that he gets his daily news not from briefings but from Fox News. So, Trump gets his news from Fox and tweets about it. Fox reads the tweets and then reports them as news. Trump then tweets again. Ad infinitum.
