I've been an AE Story Kit subscriber since the beginning and have always loved my kits. However, I haven't been using my kits as often recently and I'm wondering if the products are better suited for 6x8 albums? Ali has been creating 6x8 pages for each of her kids (and soon-to-be step children) and I'm thinking of doing the same. I'm still in the planning stages, and may create a family album vs. individual kids albums.
Have you been using your Story Kits? And if so, have you been creating 8.5 x 11 and/or 12 x 12 layouts, or a smaller size?

Not totally responsive because I don't sub to AE, but I think in general 6x8 is an easier size than larger pages. I downsized from 12x12 pocket pages to 9x12 and even that produces better-looking pages! I've done a few 6x8 mini albums and find them to be much simpler to put together and like the results. I think the same logic applies to regular layouts, the smaller the better/easier.
When I used AE 2016 WITL kit, I found it to be a bit short on filler cards, which is what you really need for bigger layouts to keep it from being too busy.

I do think the kits are geared more to pocket pages (whether 6x8 or larger) rather than layouts, especially since the base of the kits are 3x4 and 4x6 cards. I've used embellishments from the kits on layouts, but mostly use the kits with pocket pages.

My plan was to make a 6x8 with the story kits. I haven't done any of them yet, but it's on my project list. I was going to start it last month, but when I pulled everything out I was not inspired. I have to go back to the classrooms to get some story sparks for this project. It's just not in my wheelhouse to start with a word, vs starting with a photo or a story or a product line.

I get the kits and use them for both 12x12 layouts and 12x12 PL pages. I don't seem to have much of a problem with them but I can see how a 6x8 album could be easier.

I've been using them in 9x12 albums exclusively. Both for regular layouts and PL pages.

Maybe my expectations are too high. I started a 6x8 family album, mostly using the AE Story Kits, and I do like the pages I created.
