I was at a crop a few weekends ago and the lady I was sitting with had this really gorgeous handmade mini album. She showed me the directions (downloaded) and gave me the website. I went there tonight just to see how expensive the directions or directions/videos were to make the different albums (uses hidden hinges) and everything was 50% off through the 11th. Don't know if any of you have considered buying any of the many options, but I decided for $14.95 I could give it a try. The album directions I purchased can have over 100 photos in it. Just a little enabling on a Thursday evening. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

You have to look at the video to see the actual product. I got the Mr. Ben (or something like that). I want to make a beach album and that album had that theme, so I decided to go with that one.

Those albums look pretty cool, TFS. I love the steamer trunk one, very clever, and the Christmas House based on the Crate Paper house frame. Here's the link if you want a look: Christmas House at Paper PhenomenonIf you're looking to use up your stash, this might be a good option since so many of the projects look like they use quite a bit of product, especially paper.

Kathy Orta King is great -- and her hidden hinge style is amazing. I have a number of her products -- pay attention to the way she says to do something - she always has a reason!

I have always wanted to make a mini album with the cool flaps, pockets, etc. and her tutorials and videos look amazingly detailed!! now, just to decide which one (or one s, lol) I want! Thanks for posting this, 950nancy! (although I think my credit card bill will NOT thank you, haha!!)

Oh my gosh, I just love those type of albums & projects, but I can never bring myself to make one because I am worried over how fragile I perceive them to be. I want people to sit down and really handle and look at and read and pack it up and bring it on a visit and do the same things all over again, and I always worry that I will put in so much work into this type of an album and then be afraid to really love it like I want to. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) I know that sounds silly, but it's my own personal hang up with these. I do love seeing them, though, and since paper is my favorite scrapbook supply I love the name of her site/company. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

well, I had at least 8 that I was choosing between, but I narrowed it down to four-- lol!! I have the same misgivings about the fragility of them, and I'm SURE mine won't look as neat / finished as hers (I am math-challenged when it comes to measuring and getting things straight), but at 50% off there's no better time to try one out! Thanks again!

I don't think they are all that fragile. The hinge would be getting the most work - and she uses a "tyvek" product, in some cases, to provide reinforcement for the hinges. Use heavier cardstock for your base - decorate with pattern paper -- right there you have two layers of paper!

I have a few of her tutorials/videos. The use of tyvek makes the hinges very strong. She also uses a lot of scor-tape.

I made similar small album from Heidi Swapp's Creative Escape book years ago and I love it. Those 'non traditional' pages with pockets and tabs really let you get creative. Have fun with your new project!

Thanks again! The thing that changed my mind about the handmade album was holding it in my hands. It was really sturdy (and three inches thick). The lady who completed the project did one first out of craft paper to make sure she didn't mess hers up. It had six insets in the book. Flip, fold, tuck, everywhere. I have a bunch of minibooks that I have had for years and they are still in great shape.

I hope some of you who give making an album a try will post pics when they are done. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) I love seeing them even if I'm afraid to try to make one on my own. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg)

You can buy How To printed version or buy the printed version with the videos where Kathy shows you how to do it. I read the printed versions and was so glad that I got the videos to go with the instructions. It look really easy to watch her make the books. The other nice thing is that each book is very repetitive, so make six of the same thing. I would love to see what others have created too!

Those are so great! I have looked at finished products like this, but never knew how to tackle them.
Somehow when I looked at the site before, the images weren't showing up, and I couldn't see what they were. Now that I finally saw them, I missed the sale. Oh well, I'm sure there will be another one at some point. I'd like to buy the basic 8x8 tutorial and put some Graphic45 pads to good use.

It just makes so much more sense watching the videos. We are heading to Punta Cana in May and I wanted a book that I could quickly put the pictures on. I'll make two traditional scrapbooks for family and a gift.

Went on Amazon to see if they had the collection I wanted to make my book. They did. I also bought two score tapes, a 6.5 x 6.5 pad of the same paper, and some embellishments. Used my points from my credit card so it cost me nothing. Woot!

As I said, I went a bit overboard, lol! (like I usually do when getting into something new...)
I watched a few of the overview videos to get an idea of what techniques they included. In the end, I bought two that included the videos, and two that were only written tutorials. I got:
1) the Mr. Benjamin album, tutorial only-- I might only make the Mr. Grant version (Mr. Benjamin = $100 bill = 100 photos, so Mr. Grant = only 50 photos). 2) the video / tutorial for a 5 x 7.5 mini-album that includes pockets made from transparencies and large tags for the pages that go into the pockets 3) the video / tutorial for a larger album that has a TON of different page types including pocket pages 4) the tutorial for a set of 'photo mats and inserts' that includes directions for 5 different kinds of decorated folios, pockets, etc. that could be included into any album.
I really scared myself by looking at the Mr. Benjamin tutorial first-- trying to read the written directions for the hidden hinge binding-- but hopefully watching the videos will help me out before tackling the mini album I really want to make.
Now I need to buy some Tyvek and a LOT of cardstock, lol!

Now I need to buy some Tyvek and a LOT of cardstock, lol! I have watched the Mr. Benjamin videos twice while I wait for supplies to be shipped. I got one out of my three boxes today. I still need to buy some Tyvek and Kraft card stock. I bought too much paper (surprise) and can't decide which line to use to make my book, so I decided that I am going to make two. One for a trip to Punta Cana in June, and the other for our "honeymoon" (six years after we were married) to Hawaii. It will be the perfect book because I have a ton of pictures but not much journaling. Can't wait to cross that book off of my list. It is where Baby number one was created and he's turning 23 in April. Which book is #3?

Book #3 is the 'Mix and Match Album'. It's just under 9 x 11 inches, so it's a bit larger than I would like for a mini album, but it has instructions for how to include some different things in an album, like policy envelopes, a clear plastic envelope, and pocket page protectors. So I figured this album would be a good one for learning techniques that I could possibly use in other albums.

Kind of a fun change from my traditional books.

I do think I looked at this one- and now that I looked at it again, I may 'need' it sometime, lol!! It only has 3 hinges with 12 pages total, but the pages have tons of flaps and pockets. She said it can hold 50+ photos... the interactive pages look really cool. (of course, I haven't even started to work on ANY of the things I already bought, but I think I already need another one!)
