If you are insuring only one vehicle , comprehensive, what are your annual premiums like?
What is your deductible? I have a 500.00 deductible on a Ford Escape, three years old. 1600 seems like a lot of money!! It was actually less when I had two vehicles!!

I work for a national insurance company and our auto rates have increased significantly in the last several months.
Are you getting discounts for having home or renters policies? Annual miles driven? There are lots of factors in determining rates and yours doesn't seem out of line with what I've been seeing lately, unfortunately. It not been fun working in insurance lately!

Too many variables to be able to give you an exact answer. Like angiet said, rates are on the rise. Depends on where you live. Sucks (I too work for an insurance agency). Make sure you have all the discounts you can. One of the reasons it might have been less is because you get a break for multiple vehicles.

That is about what mine was a year ago (Geico) but I found out I was old enough to get my insurance through AARP so I did. Saved me just a little over $500 per year. How far you drive, driving record, how many drivers to drive it, their ages, and even population density where you live can affect your insurance rates.

I pay about $4500/year for 3 vehicles. They are not expensive, fancy vehicles (2007 dodge, 2011 kia, 2012 kia). I live in a state with a ridiculous law that makes our insurance among the most expensive in the country. In the entire time the three of us have been driving, we have never had a single claim.
Edited-this is for full coverage insurance (required by lien holders), but not comprehensive, which would put the cost completely out of reach. We also have the maximum deductibles allowed.

We pay about $1600 for four vehicles. Only the 2007 truck has collision. All four have comprehensive.
ETA: $500 deductible

We pay $2400 a year for 4 vehicles and a horse trailer with living quarters. All full coverage which includes the collision and comprehensive and $500 deductible. I refuse to live so close to Houston without full coverage on a vehicle.

I pay about $900 per year for my car insurance, with an excess (which I am assuming is the same thing as a deductible) of $400.
(When I convert that to $US it works out to $678pa + $301 deductible.)

I have a 2013 Nissan Juke. I live in a good sized city, though I don't drive much. Maybe 4k miles a year. I do get a discount due to how little I drive (I believe that cutoff is 7500 miles), and having my homeowners with them as well gives another discount.
My deductible is 250 comprehensive, 500 collision. My property damage, injury, etc are fairly middle of the road (if I recall correctly) because I carry a large umbrella policy as well.
Anyhow, I pay $875 annually. I'm with State Farm

I agree there are a lot of variables so it is hard to determine if you are comparing apples to apples.
However mine is about 1025.00 for a 2016 Subaru Forester. I have no deductible for comprehensive and I think a 500.00 deductible collision/liability.

I pay about 1300 year for full coverage... $300,000/100,000/50,000 (I think those are the numbers) with a $1000 deductible. My car is a 2012 Honda Civic and I have had a clean driving record for 15+ years. I feel like I pay way too much

I live in NJ, that's on the cheaper side. We pay $2800/year for 2 cars 4 drivers we have a bundled discount for having it with our house and 2 good student discounts. I'm sure I'll be paying more than half that for 1 car as I won't be able to take the kids off my policy or else I can't ever let them borrow my car.

So much depends on what state you're in too. I live in stupid no-fault-insurance Michigan and our rates reflect that

I've always known we had good and inexpensive car insurance but now I really know it! Just paid the bill and it was $500 (up about $40) for 6 months for 2 vehicles - 2012 van and a 1990 something truck. We live in NC.

So much depends on what state you're in too. I live in stupid no-fault-insurance Michigan and our rates reflect that It not no-fault that does it, there is something that 49 states cap at a million dollars, but we have no cap. Hence my $4200 for 3 cars that are five years old and older.

Something else to consider is that part of the rate is the cost to repair damaged vehicles. As cars get older, the cost and availability of parts do not get cheaper, neither does labor. This plays a part in the cost of comprehensive and collision.
The way new cars are built also pays a part. Some cars are built to crumple on impact protecting the passengers but causing more damage to the vehicle. Also, some of the new equipment such backup cameras can be damaged during a simple rear end collision. This costs more to repair than just a bumper.
So much goes into the rates other than no claims.

I have a 2008 Ford Escape. My Geico insurance is $720.00 a year for full coverage with a $250.00 deductible.
I live in Northern California and have good driver, defensive driving course, and anti-theft device discounts. I also receive a discount through my Union.

Thank you all for your answers. I think I am going to visit an insurance agent. This bill is twice what I was laying 5 years ago when I insured two vehicles. I am planning on visiting an insurance agent next week to get some comparisons. Especially since I will be adding an rv to the policy next week

I'm in Central VA and I pay $1200 for my 2008 Volvo with $250 deductible. My 20yo daughter (good record) has a 2001 S60 Volvo that I just found out will cost just over $1200 to insure with $250 deductible because she lives in NOVA (Northern VA). Her car is worth about $2500 at most. Needless to say, I am removing collision.
I get additional deductions because my mortgage is with Geico as well, but I'm checking into Elephant. It cannot be worse.
