Fluff S/O what movie traumatized you as an adult?

Funny Games. I found the rewind deeply disturbing.

This. And I am a scary movie lover - my sisters & I have a Scary Movie Nite every Friday the 13th. Still can't watch this one.

The Strangers is another one that got me.  Watched it once.  Can't watch it again.

And any movie that has a rape scene or a man beating his wife are ones that while they may not traumatize me, definitely stay in my mind.

The Mist. Usually gory creature movies make me roll my eyes because they're so ridiculous. But this one absolutely blew my mind because of the turn the ending took.

Marathon Man. Didn't even get thru the whole movie. Probably don't even need to mention which scene.

I typically don't watch that type of movie (horror, bloody, etc.) as an adult, so this one is harder for me to answer... my memory isn't really all that good, so I don't remember specific scenes. But I would say Misery-- the scene where she smashes the guys legs-- was pretty horrifying to me, even though I had read the book beforehand. Some things are best left to the imagination, I guess.

Along those same lines, the sex/assault scenes in the movie The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo were pretty darn disturbing for me to watch from a 'power / victim' sense... but they were integral to the story and to showing the characters of the two people involved- so they needed to be included.

I don't watch horror movies, and generally don't watch violent movies, so that said, the first one I thought of was Saving Private Ryan. That opening ten or fifteen minutes stayed with me for years.

There's a very old movie from the 60s called On the Beach with Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner. It's about a US sub crew that ends up in Australia after most of the rest of the world has been destroyed by a nuclear war. The Australian people are waiting for the fall out to come their way and then they will likely die, too. That is one hell of a haunting movie. I saw it on TCM in my late twenties, and I still get chills when I hear the song "Waltzing Matilda," which was woven into the score through the whole thing.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

She was a good Christian girl! And, after watching this movie, it seemed that I woke up at exactly 3:?? (I can't remember the exact time, but it was called the witching hour in the movie) every night for a week.

Law Abiding Citizen. That movie freaked me right out and messed me up for months. I hate that movie and will never ever watch it again. I tell everyone not to watch it.

That happened to me too after watching that movie. It happened for a few weeks straight after I saw it and the. It stopped happening.

Li caught that movie on tv a couple years ago, and it happened again! That time it only lasted a few nights.

So weird!!!

I make a real point to avoid watching any movie that I think will upset me. Movies, for me, are about relaxation and enjoyment. In fact I'm purposely avoiding even reading any other posts in this thread. I don't even like to read/hear about movies that are the type to upset me.

The Sixth Sense. Just the idea that you could turn a corner of your own home or look to your left and suddenly an alarming looking specter is there with you! A feeling of never being safe in your surroundings with nightmarish beings hovering around you.

Years ago there was a movie called The Cell starring Jennifer Lopez.. I thought it was going to be a detective hunting a serial killer movie, and it was, but the details of the killing was so disturbing to me I jumped up & told my DH I can't watch this, I'll wait outside. He followed me out & we went home & I was so disturbed I cried. We don't go to those kinds of movies anymore, I won't watch on tv & I don't read Steven King or other things with evil. I just can't do it.

This. I swear that scene traumatized me for years, and that was just watching it on film. I tears me up when I think that people actually lived that. I honestly don't comprehend how you'd ever return to normal life after going through war. I cannot fathom it. 

I cannot watch scary movies so if I did, every single one would be on my list. However, I have an odd compulsion where if I hear about a scary movie I *need* to know what happens so I google it and read about. I have a problem! Movies I read about that disturbed me greatly:
