So I've had this mental hobby for many years-building my dream home. I spend hours and hours online searching for anything from drawer pulls to tile to artwork. I love clean lines but I love Spanish and British colonial the most.
how about you? What's your decorating style and if you have one did you translate it to real life?

I think I'm part hippie. At least my DH tells me I decorate like one. My style is very eclectic...Nothing matches, but everything just sort of goes together. I love browns, gold's, olive green, and deep red. I am a.subscriber to HGTV magazine and I always see those bright colors they use and I like it, but it isn't me.

I like living simply. Studio size(300-400) would be my ideal size. In a perfect world, I would design my own studio size home/floor plan.
I don't know what my style is called. I would say...cute, romantic, matchy-matchy, as far as colors.
I don't don't like knick-knacks or built ins.
I like cute signs, hat boxes, smaller chests, etc, that frames can be placed upon, I like mixed patterns(a striped frame, a polka dot frame, a floral frame that co-ordinate color wise). I like one longer wall shelf that has hooks or knobs to hang cute things from(signs, a heart, etc...)
My perfect furniture would be a big over-sized stuffed chair with an ottoman, a love seat, a square bistro size table for dining with a small bench seat and two chairs. A shorter shelf ladder thingy(saw it on pinterest) for frames, candles, etc.. A small kitchenette, with a glass door hutch instead of kitchen cabinets, a larger rolling island instead of traditional kitchen counters.
Darker floor floors that have a burgundy/cranberry tone.

I am traditional, with a touch of country, I would say. I like things a little more casual than a true traditional.
We remodeled our main floor 2 years ago. I pinned everything I liked for the kitchen, then would periodically edit the pins. I'd show the pins to DH and delete what he didn't like. It really helped us narrow it down to what we both liked.
I would add that the older I get, the more minimalist I become. I like less clutter, fewer things on the walls, that sort of thing.

My ideal home would be a minimalist home with lots of hidden storage. As I've got older, I'm so sick of clutter. I still like my things but just a few things out at a time that I can rotate.
I'm too realistic; that won't ever happen. I don't search anymore for the ideal home or decorating style. My pinterest boards are filled with ideas that will work for improving my 1990's home. I care more about function now.

I go through phases when it comes to decor, right now I'm into the farmhouse look. I love the distressed wood, cute signs, metal windmills, cotton still on the bush, shiplap. I blame Joanna Gains for all of this lol. I don't like it overdone though and not to cluttered.
It hasn't spilled over to my actual home yet..in fact as far as decor it's bare. We moved in back in July of 2016 and we have some home improvement things to get done like drywall so I want to wait until the drywall/painting gets up at least them I'll start adding things.

Recently I have been painting and decluttering. I live alone and have a light pink bedroom and a very pale yellow kitchen with white accents in both rooms. I used to have silk flowers and pictures every where, but I'm down to the bare minimum with decorations.

I don't know! Classic, slightly modern,?
Our first floor (main living) is earthy, beamed cathedral ceilings, brick wood burning fireplace decor that is creams, Browns, navy and kiwi.
The rest is more lighter--master bed and bath are beach glass colors, we wanted it to be easy to relax, sleep, and remind us of the beach we frequent.
No clutter, but original art on walls, pieces we love.
In living areas, I change out pops of color with season (pillows, bowls, plants and flowers).
We always have fresh flower arrangements in the house!
We live in a heavily wooded area so we like having our living space as an extension of the outdoors--we have girnormus windows and sliding doors with no curtains (except for one--purely decorative and not light blocking)

Mission Arts and Crafts style: my home is filled with quarter-sawn oak, dark brown leather, and Stickley furniture. For a modern twist, we have several art prints by David Lance Goines and framed Motawi tiles. Simple lines, very geometric. Our walls are white because DH didn't want them painted sage green so I have sage green curtains, instead. It works.

Southern traditional on the less frilly/floral end. Southern Living has always been my decorating bible.

I would probably characterize it as rustic modern but including bits of bright punchy color in the neutral space. I prefer to decorate with natural materials I've gathered on my daily walks and annual beach trips over random non-personal stuff purchased at the store. I love white/light colored walls with pops of color that come from modern/primitive/naif art, my much-loved IKEA Syssan curtains link in my garden-y living room that is filled with houseplants and a mossy green velvet sofa. I like to use texture so I use baskets for a lot of storage. Pinterest Boards: Decor & Spaces I Like

I have an eclectic mix of traditional, farmhouse, mission style furniture and am not sure what my style really is lately. I gravitate toward warm, rich jewel-tone colors. The past couple years I have had a piece of gray furniture in the mix with an area rug that has some gray in it but also matches other colors from the house to pull it all together. It's ok, but feeling like I need some different - I just don't know what yet.

Mine is sort of industrial farmhouse. Think Chip and Jo. I love distressed, raw worn wood, schoolhouse light fixtures, lots of white with a huge dose of turquoise. Warm white creams, soft grays and a touch of repainted, upcycle vintage. Shiplap and board and batten on the walls...
That about describes my entire house.

I would go with eclectic. My decorating theory is that if I like it, it goes. Typically though, in reality is that I trend toward neutrals for the big stuff and the rest is the things I like. I have a lot of wood antique furniture. I don't like ornate antiques, so most of it has very clean lines like Mission/Arts and Crafts style but with a lot of it the kind of primitive, some dude made it out in the barn, style. Lots of natural stuff too, but mixed with some funky very modern pieces. For example, on my table is a metal woven bowl filled with shells, sea glass, and drift wood that I tend to pick up when I go to the beach. I am also not above picking up silly art work at Goodwill and putting it on the wall...like the very much amateur painting of a river that is signed on the back 'to grampa, love mark' ... it makes me smile to think someone did it for their grandfather. Or the fact that I am currently using a vintage garden wrought iron and glass table as a side table in my living room. Anyway, there really is no rhyme or reason to a single thing in my world, but it all seems to work.

Minimalist. A fan of straight lines, black and white, and clean patterns.
I grew up in a shabby chic home with lots of stuff and tchotchkes everywhere. I think being made to dust every little thing as a child led me to hate clutter and stuff on every flat surface.

Apparently my style is called transitional, which I'd never even heard of until last year when I did a "What is your Decorating Style" quiz. I like things as a balance between contemporary and traditional, muted colors (my house is almost all shades of gray) with splashes of color (my favorite is teal). I have a few plants, some wall art, but nothing over the top. I like a mixture of textures, like teal furry pillows on a gray leather couch, for example. It's neither masculine or feminine and I never get tired of it.
With that said, I appreciate visiting friends whose style runs to boho or modern or traditional. I just couldn't live in very iconically styled spaces for long.

Southern traditional on the less frilly/floral end. Southern Living has always been my decorating bible. You'd probably feel right at home in my house then. I'm a traditionalist with an emphasis on classic looks that really never go in-and-out of style. We have mostly family pieces and antiques for the hardwood furniture with soft goods like a leather sofa and nubby silk club chair with ottoman. Little touches of the oriental in lamps, umbrella stands, and the like. And I follow that old decorating adage that every room needs a touch of black.

Bookshelves. LOL!
I adore Craftsman style. As it stand, my house is your typical, boring Ranch. Though, there is color on the walls. I can not deal with white walls. The furniture style is eclectic. It's all been chosen because I love the peices.

I love decorating and I think I am pretty good at it. That said, I don't think I fit in one style. I've been going by flea markets and estate sales and have been thrifting for close to 30 years. I have always used finds from those to decorate but try to have a good mix with some new items too. I like color, lots of blues and greens in our house with accents of raspberry, pinks and corals, but I also use a lot of white. I've always used certain elements of farmhouse style but I also love chandeliers in almost every room. So if I had to name my style I guess it would be happy modern country glam. 😁

contemporary/modern. Our home is a MCM/Frank Lloyd Wright mix of architectural design. Inside is lots of straight lines, muted colors, pieces or art. HUGE windows. I would have liked to build even more modern, but we have to sell the thing at some point of that style of home does not sell in the area we are in.
It was really hard to furnish - the kind of furniture that I needed (size/structure) is not available in my city. I had to go to Chicago to do all my finishes, fixtures, and furniture shopping.

I call my style Urban Farmhouse. We just moved into a brand new house with rustic looking hardwood floors so I pulled my decorating style from the floors.
I mixed the "new" of my house with rustic pieces, farmhouse dining table, coffee tables, end tables. My color scheme is chocolate brown, taupes, creams and turquoise for a pop of color.

Our deco style is warm and relaxed. My color scheme is kid artwork on beiges, blues, and greens, lots of natural wood colors, baskets and candles.
And legos, can't forget the legos.
