I need new window treatments. I have roman shades on my back windows that have just broken and need to be replaced ASAP. I have sheers with drapes on my front windows, but don't love the sheers.
My first thought was wood blinds--but is that still done? We want to put the house on the market in the next couple of years, so I want something that will look modern and add value.
I feel like blinds are kind of like ceiling fans...you never see them on design shows and blogs, but practicality requires them.

We have curtains on most of our windows. We have some large windows and the cost for good quality blinds was pretty high when we moved in. The only windows we really considered blinds for were the front closet and our bathroom

I have regular blinds in my bedrooms and they keep the sun out. I like them as it makes the rooms very dark. I need a pitch black room to sleep in. I can hear the wind so I might have to close the window. I hate the sound of the wind.

I don't have any blinds in my house.
I just don't like them. They look industrial/scream "builder standard" to me.
All of my windows have different combination of fabric curtains.
Bedrooms have a black out curtain and then curtains that match the room. Living room has sheers and then thick, fancy drapes.

I have roman shades over the windows, and curtains to the sides (that I rarely pull closed.)

We have wood blinds on a few our our smaller windows and I like them. We needed something that could keep the sun out on the front of our house. I like how versatile they are for privacy. I like them better than our windows with curtains.

My little apartment has those icky plastic mini blinds on every. single. window. I have a love hate relationship with them-love that they are private and I can cover them with curtains, hate because they are a royal ass pain to keep straight...particularly when a cat is involved.
If it were up to me, there would be no blinds anywhere and I would only have curtains to contend with.

I have plantation shutters on all of my windows and love, love, love them. They are easy to clean and can be adjusted for just the amount of light at any time. They keep the heat in during the winter and the heat out in the summer.

We have 2" wood blinds on most windows and custom Levolor cellular shades in the kitchen and family room in the home we're selling.
Our house we're moving to has Plantation Shutters on every window ~ I am so excited because I love them!

We have drapes in all rooms. I think or looks more home-y. Blinds just seem sterile and I hate the clacking sound they make when the Windows are open.

All of my windows have wood blinds. Most homes around me have them. I like them. Some windows have curtains over the blinds. I don't think people around me are hgtv driven in their decorating choices. Blinds and ceiling fans still rule the interior world as far as I can tell. Maybe not in the million dollar homes but certainly in the middle and lower income homes.
It may be a question of your region and income bracket instead of what everyone else is doing.

We have plantation shutters almost everywhere in our home with only some sheer curtains on the doors that lead to the screened in porch and blackout drapes over the shutters in our bedroom because I need absolute darkness to sleep.

Yes, but I don't give a flying f*ck. There's blinds in every single window in my home. It's mostly tacky plastic mini blinds. Two of them have vertical blinds...oh the horror. Curtains don't work in my home. Of all the things I want to do, that is way down on the priority list. I can look around my neighborhood and I would say 90% plus have them as well. I do live in a neighborhood of starter homes and a couple of apartment complexes. Not exactly high class.

I think you're right voltagain . I love plantation shutters, but the price point of our home doesn't justify them. Nearly all of our neighbors have wood blinds--so they definitely won't hurt our market value and may help. Our house was unusual because it didn't have blinds.

I hate blinds. I think they look sterile, cheap. I much prefer drapes. They are just warmer, and homier. Also in MN they keep the cold out/heat in better.

No window coverings here. We are in a high rise and I prefer the openness and sunshine.

I have wood venetians in 3 bedrooms and really like the look. In my sitting room I have roller blinds plus sheer curtains on top so I can shut out the sun when needed and otherwise allow soft light in.

I am one who prefers curtains. I just like that they make a room look decorated and I live in a cold climate so I feel like they keep the heat in better. With that said, I think you should do what you like. You have to live there. And in my experience as a homeowner, home seller, and home buyer window treatments have never swayed my decision. In fact it's usually one of the top things on my to do list to replace all window treatments when I move in with curtains that match my decor.

I hate curtains/drapes. I've had them in other houses but they are dust collectors (I live in a place with lots of dust storms) and feel old fashioned to me. We also live in a very hot climate and drapes feel/look hot to me.
We have timber blinds in all bedrooms and our lounge-room at the front of the house. We had the whole house repainted recently and replaced the hideous vertical blinds in the open kitchen/family/dining room. We put custom made roller blinds and I couldn't be happier with them. They match the paint colour perfectly (we have a light sand colour walls and off white trim) so fade right into the background, you don't even notice they are there which is what I was wanting. We were going to replace the wooden blinds too but when we put them back up against the new paint they looked great (and had a good clean when we took them down) so they can stay for awhile.

Classy! Hahahahahaha! What an unfortunate auto correct. My phone won't let me type sheers. So tell me about these sheets? Is this a new thing? Do they sell them at the window covering store? Or maybe just Walmart? Maybe I need these 'sheets'.. LOL

Well I hope not because I just spent over $2,000 on 2" wide off-white wood blinds for the windows in my brand new house, and I like them.

We have white wooden 2" blinds and stationary drapes on the sides of the windows to make them appear larger.
We hang them much higher than the top of the window which is a nice effect.

With 15+ windows in our home, that isn't going to change anytime soon.

I think it just depends on what you prefer. We had curtains when I grew up and I really think they look old fashioned. They also gather dust like crazy. I prefer a dark two inch wooden blind or plantation shutters. You can also get in some light and still have privacy. You can also do a combination of both if you like the look.
