gift you received?
I registered for sterling flatware. I've used it several times, but a first cousin, once removed gave me a beautiful sterling silver lasagna server in my chosen pattern.
When I do use the flatware it's never when I'm serving lasagna. So I have this very expensive serving piece that has never been used. I guess I ought to just throw it in with all the other serving pieces in the drawer and use it, but for some reason I just can't.
What did you get?

I'd guess ours was a little, old fashioned blue pot with a lid that we got. I don't really know what it was for...storing something small presumably.... I love big vases, dishes, plates and bowls but I don't like little trinkets and decorative bits that just need dusting around!

An electric pizza maker. Never even took it out of the box.

9 crystal bowls.
9
exactly how many does one require??? And a few of them were unusual shapes so more decorative than anything else.
I would have preferred the dishes that I registered for instead

Gosh, I'm trying to remember, but I'm drawing a blank. The gifts we still have are ones we use regularly. Some are gone now, but it was because they broke or we decided that we had more than we needed, etc., but I can't think of any that we just thought were not useful to us. We did get 3 full sets of everyday glasses. And so we opted to use one set and keep another as a back-up, then we gave away the third to someone we knew who was setting up house and on a very tight budget to do so. Because we thought "Who needs 3 sets of everyday glasses??" Well, a bit under 20 years later we are now on our FOURTH set of everyday glasses, because it turns out that DH is the world's biggest klutz when it comes to glasses. He is constantly breaking them! So I guess we should have kept that 3rd set we received!

9 crystal bowls. 9 exactly how many does one require??? And a few of them were unusual shapes so more decorative than anything else. I used to babysit for a women who kept a side table in her living showcasing about a half dozen different crystal bowls. They were lined up in a row on this long narrow table, and I spent every second a kid was in that room worrying about them. Save

An embroidered throw blanket that not only spelled out last name incorrectly, but was also dry clean only.

That was a long time ago! The funniest was this umm..cat sculpture? that was made from heavy metal. On top was this rubbery stuff. You put it outside your door and wiped your muddy feet on the cat's back. It felt wrong, but it was kind of funny. ETA: It was not on a registry.

Hors d'oeurve serving pieces. A whole set-the little spoons, the little three pronged forks, little knives, the little flat thingy...the whole shebang. Anyone who know me knows that when I serve things, you get finger foods and solo cups. I am not a hors d'oeurve serving kind of girl. Really, I got them from someone in my ex's family and I think they were a little concerned about the 'redneck girl' their precious boy was marrying.

A fitted sheet.
I did not like the print. What was I going to do without the flat sheet? I can't remember now, but it probably was not the right size for my bed at the time, either.

We received a coffee carafe (we don't drink coffee) with a Christmas card in it (opened) from someone we have never heard of. It was obviously a regift.

The worst gift was probably a fancy green candy dish that really wasn't too horrible but we were young and poor and needed everything useful. (No living together and setting up house before marriage in those days.) The best gift was $20 worth of groceries from my mother to help stock the empty cupboards in our first place. This was 1968 and $20 went a long way back then.

A check that bounced. It actually was from my dad's brother, who I knew was struggling at the time, so I never told anyone. It's kind of a sweet memory to me, because had it not bounced, I'd never remember what he gave us.

An aluminum canister with "grease" embossed on it and a tool for cracking lobster. We live in the middle of the Midwest, miles (and miles)from the ocean.

A teapot shaped liked a bunch of grapes. We have been married almost 29 years and still use so many of our gifts. We donated that teapot long ago. It was so ugly.

My cousin's wife made us a swan ---- a large, satin, stuffed swan. WTH does one do with a 2 ft. tall stuffed satin swan? We'll be married 30 years next month and it only took a split second for me to come up with my answer to this post.

This is going to sound odd, but for me, it is 68 stems of our crystal. It's Lenox with a platinum band around the top. Hand wash only. What were we thinking? I would love to sell it and buy something fun at Crate and Barrel that goes in the dishwasher. We've used it maybe 5 times in 32 years. But my sister got something even more useless. A silver bell to summon the maid. Given to her by a very rich sorority sister who obviously found a bell useful in her life. The most useful thing we received was a beautiful and warm afghan that a friend's grandma knitted for us. DH has used that thing for 30 years. That and a set of microwave bowls with lids. ETA: since KikiPea asked the question how would we use 68 stems of crystal, this is the explanation: it's 5 different types of glasses: wine, champagne - flute, champagne - dessert, water, and iced tea. There are 20 or so wine and the rest 12 or so each. I think the place where I was registered lost track of how many I needed vs how many were purchased.

A set of brass cranes. They were obviously cheap and out of date and very ugly. I used them anyway because I was young and had nothing else to decorate with. They actually tie with the big horrifically ugly pot my brother got us. It was badly shaped with a really ugly glaze that would never match any house ever. We kept those way too long because my husband is a sentimental guy and didn't want to get rid of wedding presents.
It was a good lesson though. Never buy decorative items as a wedding present unless they are on the registry. What you think is lovely may not be to their taste.

I actually loved and still use all of the china, crystal, silver, etc.
I got a bread maker, which sounded nice in theory when I opened it, but made bread that was like a giant hockey puck.

An aluminum canister with "grease" embossed on it and a tool for cracking lobster. We live in the middle of the Midwest, miles (and miles)from the ocean. Those grease canisters are very retro now. I have one DD who is doing Trim Healthy Mama eating plan and keeps her grease in a mason jar. We received a set of LL Bean glasses and pitcher with geese flying on them. Never used the glasses and kept the pitcher much longer and never used it either. It was from some special people and I felt so bad we never used it. Still love LL Bean though!
