I had cataract surgery on my first eye last week. Second eye will be done in a couple of weeks. The surgery took about ten minutes and when I walked out it was AMAZING what I could see. Everything was super clear and sharp and colors are now technicolor. It's like the difference between old black and white tube TV and HD color TV. However, I thought that I look pretty good for an old broad. Well, that was because I couldn't see all the wrinkles and lines. I can now, ha. But at least now I can get my makeup on again without looking like Baby Jane. My husband is having his eyes done in June and I told him to prepare himself, he is married to an old woman. I had the surgery done in the late afternoon and then came home and watched TV. It blew me away. I had all but stopped watching TV as it was so fuzzy and gray. Now it is super HD and the colors are just the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. I went to bed a happy camper...then I woke up the next morning. I stumbled into my sunny kitchen and my white cabinets looked like someone had a food fight in my kitchen. My god! They were just black around the handles and food dripped down the fronts. Now I'm not a clean freak nor a germaphobe but I like a clean house. I wipe my cabinets down every couple of days but I must have been just smearing the dirt around and couldn't see it. My ceiling fan that I thought wasn't getting dirty anymore and couldn't figure out why, is disgusting. And the cob webs in every room, yikes! Then I started looking at my floors, the floors that I was so happy with because they don't show much dirt. Hahahahaha! Yeah, right. There is so much crap on my floors it is a wonder that my feet aren't sticking to them. I am into heavy duty Spring cleaning and it is going to take a couple of weeks to get it all cleaned up. I am just so happy that we haven't had any company lately so no one has seen this mess. I had an appointment at the bank this morning. Every top that I pulled out of the closet had stains on the front. I never wear anything twice without washing it but I have big boobs and all food lands on my chest. Evidently I haven't been seeing the stains/spots so haven't been treating them with prewash. The moral to this story is old people aren't necessarily gross they are just blind. If you need cataract surgery as you age (and most people do) get it sooner rather than later as once you have it done the cataracts don't grow back. You will also save yourself from having to super clean everything you own. I won't even go into how bad my black car with black interior looks. This surgery is miraculous though.

You are not alone! After my aunt had her cataracts fixed, she called my mom and asked why my mom never told her that her house was dirty.
Enjoy your new eye!

I feel your pleasure!! I had the same reaction when I got my cataracts taken care of... my God, what colors! What clarity! You just don't realize how much you can't see. I agree, the surgery itself is a piece of cake. Enjoy exploring your world with your new view!

If you can see this much better with one eye done then what's it going to be like after your second eye surgery? Yikes! No telling what you'll be able to see. I'm glad you're happy with your "new" eye. I'm getting to the point of needing cataract surgery on my left eye but my right eye is still okay so I can still see all the wrinkles. Oh joy.

Sounds like a mixed blessing - lol. But, seriously, congratulations on the renewed vision. It must be so nice to see clearly again.

Glad your surgery was a success! I feel bad for giggling about your stained shirts and old people reference.

LOL. You sound like my sister-in-law. As soon as she got the all clear from her eye surgeon, she spent an entire afternoon scrubbing her kitchen. She said she was mortified how dirty the kitchen cabinets were!
I have advancing glaucoma and developing cataracts. I won't be having surgery for quite a few more years, so lord help me when I do finally see clearly again.
And I'm super jealous she can see so clearly now without eye glasses!

Glad to hear this. I will have to have the surgery at some point but my doctor says my eyes aren't ready yet. Something to look forward to!

Baby Jane. Hee.]
(Part of my job is explaining students' hearing aids to their teachers. I explain that new HA users are sometimes both surprised and dismayed by all the "extra" sounds they hear...and I often liken it to how much prettier the world - and everybody in it - looks when I take off my glasses. Okay, maybe not Baby Jane...)

Okay, maybe not Baby Jane...) That's it EXACTLY! Lord only knows what my eye makeup was looking like but it wasn't good. When I went in for the surgery I, of course couldn't wear makeup. That was the first time since I was twelve that I've been out of the house without at least mascara. It was scary.

My dad used to boast that he didn't have any gray hair. I thought he was being sarcastic because his entire head was gray.
HE had cataract surgery and realized that his blondish Brown hair was really gray.
It was funny.

I inquired about laser surgery to correct my vision. I was told I wouldn't qualify be pause I have cataracts. The good news is that my vision will be corrected and insurance will pay for it. The bad news is that the cataracts are not bad enough for surgery at this time. I have to wait u til they are bad enough.....mgrrrr!

My husband has had his cataracts for years and they just now have gotten bad enough that they will do the surgery. Mine were really fast growing and got bad in the last eighteen months. I don't know why they have to get bad before they will do the surgery because they say once it is fixed they don't grow back. They implant a lense that suposedly lasts for the rest of your life. Hope you get yours soon, it is very cool when you can see again.

My new eyes are scheduled for the first part of May - two weeks apart. I can't wait! I will be getting monovision so I won't have to use reading glasses. I am trying to not get my hopes up about not having to wear glasses. I've had to wait about four years for this surgery - you have to be at a point where you have trouble driving before insurance will pay for it. But, now the doc says I am ready!! this is one surgery that I am looking forward to.

I am so thrilled for you! Yay! another pea had someone awesome happen at the same time as me. I would love to take you to dinner and celebrate!
I remember when my grandmother had cataract surgery when I was 14 or so, in the early 90s. It was a much worse procedure--cutting so much more of the cornea to get to the cataract. She had to lie down for like 48 hours. She was so happy to have it done.
The reason why the make people wait so long is because insurance companies put everything off as late as they can.

I'm so glad to hear all went well for you! I had both of mine done five days apart last April. For me, the hardest part was the eye drop regime afterwards. The surgery was a piece of cake.
The difference in vision is just amazing. My doctor told me it would be life changing and he was right.
Wishing you well on eye #2.
