In humans and animals!! I lost my dad 2 weeks ago from it. And now our dog may have it...ugh!!! He's almost 6 months and this developed about 2 weeks ago. We at first thought maybe spider bite? Was on meds a week and no change. Took back to vet and they took a piece to biopsy but they think cancer...white dogs more susceptible? Said if it is will likely spread and since young best to put down so doesn't suffer? If by chance it's benign, remove his tail.. My kids will be crushed. Again. 3rd dog in as many years we will have lost!

Thanks. We've only had him 3 months but grown attached. He has brought our 2 year old skittish dog out of her shell SO much!

My dog had one of these, it kind of put us in a tailspin for a few weeks! It was a mast cell tumor and it was removed. Margins were good. They said it was a grade 3 (worst) but the margins were ok. They then gave him prednison and did some xrays and said there's no other cancer. So have faith. Maybe worst case scenario he'll just lose his tail. I'll pray for your pup!

That doesn't look good but I am hoping what Freebird said up post is true for your dog too.

I'm so sorry about your dad. It's hard to have this no matter what, but on top of a recent loss, very difficult. Cancer sucks.

Hopefully that's not what it is. One of our dogs had a very big weird growth on his leg that stuck out like that and he gnawed at it constantly. So gross. It was benign but we still coughed up the money to have it removed because it was driving him nuts and we were afraid it was going to get infected. He was so much happier after that!
ETA: My last little dog had a few mast cell tumors and they didn't look anything like that. They were about the size of a pencil eraser and poked straight out of his skin. My dog was old though.

I work at a vet clinic. Possibly a mast cell tumor by the look of it. Is it on the tail? Might be a good idea to amputate it. Hoping it isn't cancer regardless.

I will whole-heartedly agree with you about cancer. I hate it so much!!! I'm sorry about your dad. A history of various cancers runs deep and wide throughout my family history. I'd love to punch it right square in the throat!!! When my mother passed in 2015 I inherited her 6 (!!!!) dogs. They were all old. I've only got two left now. My favorite one had a knot come up on his leg that looked just like the knot on your sweet pup's tail. I thought he had been snake bit. At one point it looked like it ruptured and then it got better. Maybe a month later, it came back and this time it did not go away. He went missing for about 3 weeks and I thought he had maybe wondered off and died. He came back and I was able to bid him good-bye...then I called my son in law and he came over and put him down. As with all of my mom's dogs you could barely pet them (one of them I still can't) let alone get them into a car and take them to the vet. Charlie had a lot of Chow and Mastiff in him but he was a good dog and I miss him. I'm really hoping that your dogs knot on his tail turns out to be benign.

Sorry about your dad.
Our white jack russell had cancer on his belly. Looked just like that. They removed it with wide margins. That was 5-6 years ago and no reoccurance of cancer at all. Maybe get a second opinion.

I'm so very sorry. Sending lots of love and hugs!
My first cousin's wife was just diagnosed with uterine cancer. She started chemo yesterday. My cousin lost his mom (my favorite aunt) and I lost my mom to cancer as well. I worry about him very much.
The fact that the cancer is on his tail is a good sign; it seems an easy place to remove it and get rid of the cancer for good.
