It's ok to be upset. I really hope it turns up.

That's not a first world problem, it meant something to you.
I hope it is found and returned.

I'm so sorry! Some of my favorite things are things my daughter has made for me over the years. My favorite Christmas ornament is a little blue glittery snowflake that she made in preschool, and it is honestly one of my most prized possessions. If anything happened to it I'd be devastated! I really hope someone turns your keychain in and you are able to get it back soon. ((((Hugs))))

Girrrlllll....... I totally feel ya.
I lost my key ring in January last year. I about lost it...heck, I DID lose it!! It was a sterling silver spoon handle from my family's sterling pattern that was made into a keyring for me by my dad's best friend when I graduated high school in 1989! It was VERY sentimental to me. Oddly enough, I lost it before back in about 2001 but found it in my car the day of this man's funeral.
When I lost it in 1/2015, I just knew it fell off at the coffee shop. I tore that place up looking in seat cushions, all around where I possibly walked, etc. I was <this> close to going through the trash but realized how irrational that idea was considering I never threw anything away while I was there. I left my name and number and everything. I even went back and traced my steps from the day before when I had to go to my attorney's office. I was a wreck for DAYS! My mom ended up finding someone else to make me another one but it just wasn't the same. I was soooo sad!
Lo and behold, I was cleaning out the little store room in my carport and there that keyring was! How it got there, I'll never know. I screamed and scared my BF but I was just excited! I realize it is "just a keyring" to some people but it was soooo much more to me!
Hopefully yours will turn up soon!

Last time I thought I'd lost something at the store I found it weeks later in my car, having fallen into the black hole between seats. It was a watch that I was wearing at the time it disappeared. I have no idea why I would've been digging around in my car but it must have come off and fallen in then. But if you'd asked me, I'd have sworn it was on my wrist when I entered the store. So my question is, even if you think it was still with you when you entered the store, have you checked every possible place? Your means of transit? Wherever you were before the store?
I hope it finds its way back to you somehow. It's okay to be upset about it. Whether it's a first world problem or not, it's a tangible piece of your relationship with your son. Sometimes it's the little things that mean the most.

I've been surprised several times when people returned things to me I lost. I hope this happens to you. I can understand how upsetting this must be. I lost an old leather leash I had for years this past winter when it fell off my shoulders into the snow when I was out walking. Someone must have found it and taken it because I walk the same path every day. It wasn't made by a loved one but it was the first leash I bought for my golden retriever/angel dog. It sounds all woo-woo but I still felt his essence in that leash.
