Went to a garage sale this weekend and the lady was selling angel hair tinsel. My earliest memory is of this tinsel on a Christmas tree back when I was probably 3. What's your earliest memory?

My earliest memory is of my sister arriving in our household. I was 2 years 3 months. I have a distinct memory of asking about her breast feeding.

I was abused as a child. My earliest memory is around 3 or 4 years old. I had some kind of a tantrum and I threw my toy at my front door. It broke the glass. I was beaten pretty badly for that. It's funny because I have blocked out a lot of memories. But some just stick with you, no matter what. I don't know if it's because I have a crazy brain or what, but there are a lot of things I can't remember. It always surprises me when someone will reminisce about something and I absolutely have no memory of it. But then something bad and I have absolutely clear as day memory of it.

We moved from my parents' first house to our "new" house a couple of months before I turned 5. I have several memories from the "old" house - playing in the back yard with my little brother, falling over the baby gate down the stairs, helping my dad in the basement, watching Sesame Street on the basement TV, and a few other things - but I can't tie them to any specific age other than four or younger. I must be a little older than you, because angel hair tinsel was still a thing for a few years on the Christmas tree in our "new" house.

My kids love angel hair tinsel. We still put it on our tree every year. It can be hard to find so when I find it, I buy a lot of it.

I remember riding to my grandmother's house from our house (it was on the same property) on the back of one of Gran's great danes. I was 3. I have several memories of my great grandmother from that year too.

I remember several things from when we lived on the farm. We moved into town when I was 3.
I remember playing in the barn with my older sisters and making bean bags with old socks and corn that had spilled in the barn. I remember the sheep we had and the night a storm came up. Everyone was outside trying to get the sheep in the barn while I stood at the backdoor watching. I remember my mother hanging wallpaper. Also, after they brought my baby brother home, I was watching mom change him and he peed on me.
ETA: I remember being in the hospital getting a cast after I broke my arm when I was 3.

My earliest memory is from an event that happened when I was 3 and we were driving from MA to FL to visit my grandparents.

The earliest memories I have are probably about age 3. We lived in the same house from age 3-5 and those memories kind of run together, but that is the first house I remember (we had lived in 3 other places before that) and I have lots of memories there. I was not yet 4 when my brother was born and I do remember that. It was in 1961.
anything before age 3 would probably be related to photos or stories and not my actual unprompted recall.

I remember the move from our house in Mendocino to Moss Beach. I was just 3. There are some memories of living in the Mendocino house, but I don't know how much before the move those are.
I remember a ton of when I was a child, and it always blows me away when I hear people say that they have no memories of their childhood.

When I was a kid it was actually tin and felt like strips of aluminum foil. You could scrunch a handfull up into a ball. After Christmas we'd collect it off of the trees, scrunch it into balls and have tinsel ball fights.

My first memory is the age of 3 as well...I remember my brother had the chicken pox so my mom kept him home from school and she let us sit on the floor of the kitchen and bang on the pots and pans. I was so happy that my brother got to stay home and play with me. (I didn't realize at the time that my mom was trying to expose me to chicken pox as well so I could get them out of the way)
I have a friend who swears up and down that her first memory was at 9 months old - I tell her that she is remembering what someone told her, not an actual memory but she will argue with you until dooms day about that. I am sorry but I just find it hard to believe that she actually remembers something at 9 months old.

I remember having my picture taken when I was somewhere between 2 and 3 years old. I remember there was a clip in my hair that annoyed me. I remember the sleeves of my shirt were itchy and too long. I can also remember that the room was dark and my mother was standing off to the right talking to me, probably trying to get me to smile. It didn't work.

I remember being three years old in our first home, I know what year that was because it was a Winter Olympics. I have large gaps after that and don't remember moving or at least two of the places we lived after that. Then my next memories are five and six years of age but just little things, like borrowing a purple marker from a classmate to draw a curtain on a window in a picture I was making.

I was about 2 1/2 and we took a train from Indianapolis, IN to California to visit family. I remember the water cooler bubbling up. My Mom said I drank and peed more on that trip than anyone every needed to!

I somewhat regret passing them up.

I have one memory of when I was about 18 months old. I was wearing one of those soft white Carter baby gowns and sitting on my grampa's lap in his old 1947 Plymouth while he was driving. I can remember the huge steering wheel and him letting me pretend to drive. He died when I was 18 months old so it had to be before that. Most of my memories started when I was five and in kindergarten.

I remember having chickenpox when I was 2. I itched like crazy and my mom put socks over my hands to remind me not to scratch. My cousins came to visit my grandparents who lived next door, and I stood out on the porch and cried because they couldn't play with me.

My earliest memory is around age 2-1/2 when I went nearly completely deaf for 3 days after a doctor gave me streptomycin for a bad cold. If you read about it, you'll find out that one of the side effects of streptomycin can be hearing loss. There were several other kids in my school around my age that also had hearing problems so that hometown doctor prescribed it a little too often. Apparently, he quit prescribing very quickly.
All the other kids hearing was worse than me so I guess I kind of lucked out. When my hearing came back, I had approximately 30% hearing loss in my good ear and 40% loss in my bad ear. Just good enough to survive in the hearing world especially since I learned to read lips without realizing it at a very young age.
Back to my memory, I remember standing in the middle of a room and feeling confused, it was so quiet. I don't remember words, just how I felt. At that age, I wouldn't have a big vocabulary. I remember turning around because I barely heard something. My mother was stomping the floor to get my attention. My mother swore that I couldn't remember back that far but other cousins on my father's side of the family say they do remember important events at that age. I think it is real because my point of view when looking around is I was VERY short and I don't remember words, just feeling confusion and everything was scary quiet.
I have lots of memories of when I was 3 and 4.

I pulled out the drawers of my parents' dresser to reach something on top. The whole thing came down on top of me including a large chunk of marble that my brother had found on a walk - the marble split my head open and I had to get stitches.
We were talking about it a few years ago and my mother had mentioned that there was no way that I actually remembered it, that I was just remembering the story which had been repeated many times over the years. Except, the story was that I was reaching for the piece of marble and I was actually going for the wedding picture of my parents that sat beside it. I was two - I remember it clearly.

My earliest memory is about 2. I was in a bathtub with a bunch of my cousins we were all getting cleaned up from playing with dinky cars outside. I was the first girl in a long line of boys so they were all boy cousins. There is a few pictures of it. My older cousin was about 8 at the time though, i find that kind of odd. We are really close as kids and as adults and joke about it. It seems like we spent a lot of time naked as kids, my mom was a bit of a hippie. LOL

I recall some of it being made of lead and it was outlawed once it was discovered that lead caused brain damage when little kids ate it. After that it was made of plastic like Easter grass (which is banned in this household because the vacuum cleaner hates it).

She has multiple memories of when she was 12-18 months old. Also when she was about two she was a very good talker and told me all about how she didn't like being in my stomach with her brother (she is a twin) and that she always felt squished and couldn't move. When I was pregnant with them I couldn't lay on the side that she was on because she would kick, and kick non stop! It freaked me out a bit when she told me this. She says she doesn't remember this now however I fully think she did when she was little.

I remember learning to tie my shoes at three. My grandparents and uncle made the trip to visit us and I asked my uncle to tie my shoe. He said he'd teach me instead. He couldn't believe I remembered that day.

I had just turned three when my hand was caught in the hinge of a door, crushing my pinky finger. I can clearly remember the bathing suit my mom was wearing and the 70's striped towel that she used to wrap my hand.

My DH and I were talking about this the other day. I can remember sitting in the swings outside singing Down in the Boondocks with my aunt. She was just a teenager then so I would have been 3-4.
My DH has very few memories of his childhood. His earliest is riding the bus to school. His family life wasn't always pleasant so he has probably blocked them.

We moved to the house I grew up in in 1971, so I would have just turned four at the time. I remember moving in. I also have some very vague memories of our former house before that, just snippets of memories like the yellow wallpapered kitchen and boomerang laminate on the countertops, my little brother riding his toy tow truck down the hall between my parent's bedroom and the bathroom with TP tied to the hook in back and riding that same tow truck off the ledge in the front yard and crashing onto the public sidewalk. I remember my older siblings making a piñata out of a grocery bag and hanging it in the wide archway between the living room and the dining room and I nabbed the one full sized Salted Nut Roll that was inside along with all the penny candy. I remember the row of tiger lilies surrounding the wide front porch.

Clearest memories are of time spent with my mum before I started school so around 3ish, she taught me to read and write and we'd do jigsaws together. I remember us sitting on the floor doing my favourite Sooty and Sweep jigsaw over and over again.
