I need a new camera bag for an upcoming trip and I'd like something that looks like a purse but can carry my DSLR and a spare lens. I have a bag I bought probably 10-12 years ago that is falling apart now - I'm guessing it might have been from Jo Totes. I know there is also a line of bags by Kelly Moore. Who else makes these kinds of bags that I'm not thinking of? Do you have one that you use and love?

store.kellymoorebag.com/collections/allKelly Moore - beautiful bags and amazingly functional. (guess I should read the whole post, huh? LOL) Truly, you can't go wrong, I looked forever but a friend who is a professional photographer told me she doesn't think it doesn't get any better than Kelly Moore.

I have a Kelly Moore bag (Songbird). It's really a great bag. The cage is heavily padded and you can easily move dividers around to accommodate lenses/bodies/gear. The bags come on several styles/sizes/colors.
I've had it about 4 years now and it still looks brand new.

Thanks everyone. Ephiphanie - that's where my first bag was from! I couldn't remember the name but vaguely thought there might be an 'e' involved, and I knew Jill-E didn't feel right. I will go check out Ephiphanie. Right now one of the Kelly Moore bags in real leather is my front runner. My current bag is faux leather and it's starting to peel, so I do like the idea of real leather. However - it's also about $100 more than my current second choice which is a faux leather bag from Jo Totes. @elaynef - what is the brand name on that bag? basket1lady - how much stuff can you fit in that bag - I will need to carry 1 camera with lens attached, 1 spare lens, 1 GoPro camera, phone and wallet. And a bit of extra room for water bottle/snacks etc wouldn't hurt.

basket1lady - how much stuff can you fit in that bag - I will need to carry 1 camera with lens attached, 1 spare lens, 1 GoPro camera, phone and wallet. And a bit of extra room for water bottle/snacks etc wouldn't hurt. I can fit a body with the lens attached and another lens, leaving the 3rd area open for a water bottle. I don't have a GoPro, so I'm not sure how it would fit, but they are pretty small, right? There is an outside pocket for CCs, money, etc, with little slots/pockets for them. I usually just put a CC and some cash in there, rather than carrying my wallet. There is another outside pocket where I keep my extra batteries, SD cards, charger, lens cleaner, etc. I can also fit my big lens in there which is about 8.75" tall. If I only have that lens and a body in the bag, I can zip the top all the way, but if I add a smaller lens, I just zip the zipper up to the tall lens rather than force the zipper over the top of the tall lens. The hood then goes in the 3rd area and a water bottle goes in right in the middle of the hood. I don't carry it, but an iPad could fit alongside the padded basket. I usually put programs there. Pictured here with the camera & lens attached, with the hood on to protect the lens. The hood is off the floor of the bag a bit, as I used the velcro divider to make a ledge for the camera to "sit" on, protecting it even more. The entire padded basket lifts out of the bag & you can use it without the dividers or without the basket itself. My 2nd (smaller) lens is on the left side and that 3rd area is open here. This lens is 8.75" tall without the hood. I use it with a monopod and I added elastic straps with small carabiners to the monopod so that it attaches to the strap of the bag, lying across the bag when carrying it.

I have the Jo Totes Missy camera bag in mint. It's a very nice bag, lots of room, etc. but I've used it all of one time. If you were interested in buying it off me (or if anyone else is!), I'd give you a screaming good deal on it.

tallgirl could you start a thread with instructions on how you make your gopro videos? I'm thinking of buying one but am completely intimidated by actually making the video. It would be helpful to get the basic step by step instructions. All your vacation videos were fantastic!

Thanks to everyone's feedback, I think I have finally settled on the JoTotes Gracie bag. Unfortunately the Kelly Moore bags, when you factor in shipping and duty and exchange to get it to me here in Canada, were hitting the $500 mark. I'm just not prepared to spend that right now. I don't see this bag getting heavy duty usage so I am going to go the faux leather route rather than upgrading to the real deal. I narrowed my choices down to the JoTotes Gracie and JoTotes Missy (and even though I think I am going to purchase it in black, I did seriously contemplate ahiller's offer! Hope you are able to find another buyer ahiller!) I liked the looks of the Missy the best but thought the Gracie would be more functional for me because of the shape (a bit more square whereas the Missy is more short and wide). annabella - thanks for the compliment! Have you ever used iMovie before? I do all my editing in there and it is pretty basic stuff. I will say though that I just moved over to iMovie '13 (the latest release) and find it a lot less intuitive than it used to be. There are a couple of cool new features that do save a lot of time, but overall I am still not sold on it! I hadn't contemplated doing any sort of tutorial but if you are looking for specific advice I can help you with that. My next vacation movie will start production in July when we get back from London, Paris and Reykjavik.

How do you manage taking still photos and video at the same time since you're the cameraman? I understand the gopro only has 1 hour of battery life, do you recharge it during the day when you're out?

Yes, iMovie is just for Apple. It's just the most basic video editor you can use for Apple (comes free with your computer). I think Windows Movie Maker is pretty much the same thing. You don't need a fancy video editor in order to make these sorts of movies. You don't need a fancy camera either; I mix a lot of footage from my phone in, along with shots from my DSLR and GoPro. I recently upgraded to a new GoPro (the Hero 5) and it has a nifty feature - you can shoot video and it will take a photo every 5 seconds. I do this a lot to get a great assortment of video clips and still shots that are typically candids. Before I had this camera though, it was just a matter of making a choice between videoing a moment or snapping a photo of it. As far as battery life goes, the GoPro battery life is indeed low. Spare batteries are pretty cheap and I usually have two spares on hand as well as a fresh battery in the camera each morning. Plus, I am getting better at using the camera judiciously and not wearing the battery down as fast, which also has the added bonus of not leaving me with so much footage to weed through when I'm editing.

I take it on the plane with me every time I travel.
