I gave up scrapbooking because I hate the plastic page protectors. I did PL and layouts for several years but all that plastic is just icky to me. I loved the PL concept, but hated the plastic. I make photo books and stick photos into my diary and love memory keeping, but I hate slipping pages into plastic sleeves.
I defend post-bound albums even though I get why people hate them. I find 12" albums too big and especially in ring binder form.
I don't like storing a lot of albums, especially messy chunky mini books. I never really understood them (or 90% of what was in scrapbooking magazines back in the day).
One day a long time ago I realized that I didn't want to make pages about the things that all those mainstream (craft store) stickers and embellishments are about - declarations of love for people, holidays, etc. I was happy when I found online that there are other ways to craft, other things to say.
I'm much more of a photo album person than a scrapbook person, even though I love the stories and journaling.

I don't relate at all to any of the other women I've met at scrappy classes so I rarely go.
I don't have kids and I don't think I ever will. I'm trying to make peace with that. sometimes seeing all the other people with their pictures of kids makes me think about quitting. Not because I think my scrapbooks should be for my imaginary children to cherish after I'm gone (who knows if your kids will even want them) but because it makes me really sad when I see all the kid related pages and think I will probably never have that.
I hoard puffy stickers. I like to pet them.
I own tons of stamps. I rarely stamp. It's a problem. And I get a new one every month with my kit club.

I don't keep scraps smaller than 1/2 a page. And i throw away embellies i know I wont use (like sometimes those that come in a kit). And I throw away thickers if i only have a couple letters left.

after realizing that 99.9% of people who look at my scrapbooks pay ZERO attention to anything but the photos, i decided to go with the style i tend towards whcih is VERY simple and not feel guilty that i don't spend a week on a page. an hour and done.

I throw away embellishments and Thickers, too. I do keep small scraps for punching, but nothing smaller than about 4x6.

Ive been using the backs of sticker pop up dots to give extra lift to my embellishments or paper pieces after i used all the dots up. I figure no one is going to look whats behind stuff. So i cut the backs up and put them where they wont be noticed, and sometimes ive used a full sheet too. It seems wasteful to me to not use the entire back, when it has a sticky back that could get used too! 😂

Just discovered that I bought the Simple Stories Carpe Diem pad twice but I won't return it because I love the paper so much. If you saw my paper cabinet, you would say I wouldn't miss having the second pad. Have I used a piece of it yet? Nope. One year for my birthday, my husband got me a Cuttlebug and hid it in his garage. Every single day while he was at work I would take it out and use it and then replace it before he came home. The day of my birthday I did the fake surprise expression when I opened it. He almost returned it back to the store because he thought the cutting pads were defective with all "those marks" on them. Ha! I haven't read this entire thread but this got me laughing! So funny

I don't care how much I've spent over the last 21 years I've been scrapping. No guilt. I don't hide anything from my husband, either.
My style is somewhat old school. I don't mean sticker sneeze. I'm not THAT out of date. But I don't do mixed media. I still do two page layouts with multiple photos, and all those photos are usually matted.
I hate using stickers, but I love die-cuts.
I also use stamping in some way on many of my pages.

Project Life is not scrapbooking...it is a throwback to albums with magnetic pages. Digital is not scrapbooking. I hate stamping. I don't like to ink edges. All my layouts are lumpy or they are incomplete. I do not like tearing paper. i am now free of any electronic cutter and am happier. After doing many, I no longer do mini albums...they get thrown away or stuffed in a drawer. Magic Mesh and corrugated paper are two of my favorite things to use. i have recently rediscovered eyelets and brads.

Project Life is not scrapbooking...it is a throwback to albums with magnetic pages. Digital is not scrapbooking. I remembered you said something like that months ago in this thread. I'll never understand why some people feel the need to disparage others in a creative community like ours. If you can't be supportive of your fellow scrapbookers, at least please try to refrain from putting down others' work.

Project Life is not scrapbooking...it is a throwback to albums with magnetic pages. Digital is not scrapbooking. Disagree Project Life is scrapping in a smaller format. 3x4 and 4x6 are the most common sizes. I've done plenty of scrapping this way. I've embellished with letter stickers, die cuts, stamps, brads,... Other times, I journal on those sizes or leave a pretty paper and do nothing. Just like the 12x12 format with white space and journaling. I guess that's my dirty little scrapping secret, I scrap all sizes and have done digital as well. I believe as long as you put something on paper (or a computer screen!) and manipulate the embellishments, elements, paper, digi paper, and document something then it is scrapping.

I started out digital scrapbooking years before I started Project Life. I've never paper scrapped a 12x12 page.

Project Life is not scrapbooking...it is a throwback to albums with magnetic pages. Digital is not scrapbooking. Ummm, can't disagree with you more on this one. Although, I do neither of these, my scrappy friends Lynne and Jessica, do PL really well. They pair beautiful pictures with lots of journaling just on a smaller scale. When it comes down to it, isn't that what scrapbooking is? Each and every pocket is well thought out and beautiful.

It's not something I do...but something I think about. I hate how everyone scraps children all the time, whether they're their own or simply related. There are more things to life than children. Where are your stories? Sorry if that was harsh. I wish I could find a way to tell stories of more than my kids. I just don't know WHAT stories to tell. I'm honestly less sad about not having stories about ME than I am about not having stories about my husband and I. But with one or the other of us behind the camera all the time, it's hard to get pictures of the 2 of us alone (my 6 year old is starting to enjoy taking pictures, so it might become a case of having him take pictures from time to time if I ever remember) to tell our stories...there's only so many selfies I can scrap and have almost everything look the same. It's so much easier looking at my kids and seeing what is important to tell...so much changes every single day with them. It's obvious what to talk about...although I need to do a better job recording their personalities and not just things they do. The things that make my husband and I work well has been a relatively well oiled machine for so long that it's normal...I don't really see the story in it. I feel emotional looking at pictures of us, but I don't know how to pinpoint what exactly to say. So no, not harsh...it's a very accurate perception. I didn't feel like I had anything worth documenting until I had my first child and he's why I started to scrapbook, so that's part of it, too. I'm a professional cultural anthropologist. Here's the thing about telling your story, tell it however you want to tell it. You don't need to use photo's, you can write about it or make a collage using images from papers, magazines, the newspaper, wherever and then write about how your collage of images tells YOUR story. This is something I've encountered with a lot of people. As humans we want to share our life stories, we want to leave behind some record that we, as an individual, were at one time present in the world, but people don't know how to leave a record. I tell them to keep a journal or journals and to arrange to have those journals donated to the Smithsonian Museum of American History, the Smithsonian Museum of Ethnology and Ethnography or even their state library or state university. Historians and Anthropologists can learn a lot from the writings (or scrapbooks) of just regular, everyday people. Anyway, sorry for the rant.

My secret is ... I don't purge. I love my older products as much as I love my newer ones. When my family look at my albums, they won't care that I dared to use a 2008 paper on a 2018 layout. I recently bought some cheaper 12x12 pads to use on an album for my daughter: although they are not to my taste, they are only one sided so I am using the plain white card reverse as bases for my LOs, matting etc. I am fortunate in having a craft room (bonus of being a divorced empty-nester) for storage. Now I am semi-retired, I am enjoying producing plenty of LOs so my stash is being eaten into

I have both a Cameo and a Cricut with tons of cartridges and have not used either machine in ages. I really struggle with doing titles for my pages. I used to type all of my journaling but now mostly use my handwriting. It is faster to use handwriting. I have more supplies than I will ever use, but I have a big box coming today from Scrapbook.com I have terminal cancer and my two best scrappy friends have been told they can have my stash. I think they are dreading going through my room. I am trying to use as much as possible so it won't be too overwhelming for them.

This weekend I was also "out" with my 1-3 photo pages instead of double pages with tons of photos (I do those too!) just not this weekend. Oh here is a BIG ONE! You ready??? I HATE MAKING CARDS! Hate it! I can't stand it and refuse to do it except for close close family/friends. I think it is because I have seen my homemade spent so many flipping hours on cards in the trash! So yeah I hate making them now! I admire and love those that others do but it is not for me. Shew I feel better LOL! LOL! I hate making cards, too. I don't have time. And as you pointed out, they are disposable. Now my secret is out.

Where are your stories? Sorry if that was harsh. No apologies needed. I am working on a 6X8 album of ME right now and it is rather strange since I have only scrapped my kids/dog/family stuff for so long. I finally figured out it was time to pout MY stories down so they will remember me sometime too but 12X12 was too daunting so I settled on this smaller size and it works. I am also making sure i get in more photos finally ! SaveI’ve scrapped stories about memories of Girl Scouts, 4H, reading Anne of Green Gables, and my love of Nancy Drew books.

Donna, I am so sorry. That's a diagnosis no one wants to get.
I'll add a few more of my own since this thread has resurfaced.
I never understood one photo/one page layouts. Many of my layouts are at least 4 pages, sometimes 6. I take a lot of photos, and I have trouble narrowing my pictures down.
I refuse to buy Thickers.
I almost never buy pre-made embellishments. I'd rather make my own with stamps, die cuts, and/or whatever is in my stash.
I hate to journal.
I have never scrapbooked the weddings of my 3 married kids. I struggle to do "special" layouts. I also have grandkids whose birth I have not scrapbooked.

donna, I'm just glad you're back to crafting. Your family will appreciate everything that you finish. I also used to type up my journaling on every layout because I hated my handwriting and now have taken to just handwriting almost all the time because I hate to waste the time getting it just so on the computer and then printing it on a card.

My dirty secrets I am very picky about supplies. I only use supplies I love. I've been known to frequently cut out one stamp or sticker from a set and put the rest of the set into the donation pile. I'm addicted to alpha stickers and buy multiple sets at a time if I love the font. 🙈 I don't care about trends or the latest and greatest. I am ruthless when I purge but still have a lot of older supplies. If it still makes me happy, then it stays. I'm not a themed scrapper but love a good nod to a theme. I'm not a fan of single photo pages in my own album. I always look at esthetically pleasing single photo pages and mentally add another photo into the empty white space. 😂

I hate taking photos. I just don't enjoy it. So I'm a pretty useless scrapper. Like julie5 (Hi Julie!!) I scrap for me, just to make pretty pages, nobody will be looking at my albums in the future as I don't have kids so I'm scrapping for me, right now, just to make something pretty. I use the same photos over and over again and am firmly a one photo scrapper as I don't have more to use! I did just buy two of those scrapbook display stand and I am enjoying displaying LO's in those. Because they're pretty and they make me happy! Oh, I hate stamping. And making cards. And planners.

I had a room built onto my house with a walk in closet for my scrapbooking addiction. I put kitchen cabinets in the room with countertops to scrapbook on and I never scrapbook anymore. I go to the scrapbook expo every year & take classes & shop but I never scrapbook at home.
It's so hard to scrapbook during the week since I'm working & taking kids to activities. I only see my SO on weekends & would rather spend the time with him than scrapbook.

I love scrapbooking but hate having to decide which pictures to print.
I hate packing up after a crop.
