I love these inks and plan on getting all the colors. A friend of mine at work is my either my enabler or my conscience lol. But because I am Tim Holtz junkie all colors are a must have

Very cool ! I have some ancient photo paper from 2003 ? and I wonder if it would work? I don't have distress inks though. Maybe something else would work. Or maybe I need to go shopping. TFS

Ok, I couldn't resist and did a quickie test. Keep in mind that I am a newbie stamper so others might have different results.
It definitely will take a bit of practice to master.
I found a pouncing motion worked better than a swirling one to apply last color. The ink dries much quicker than on paper.
I wiped ink off with both a dry towel and a wet wipe and had the same results with no damage to the glossy paper.
Do not use a self adhesive stencil by mistake like I did, it rips the gloss off the photo paper. It isn't pretty unless you want shiny and matte on the same pattern.
I LOVE the glossy results. Then I stamped on it with Stazon Ink. The stamped image does come out slightly matte.
Using bolder solid stamps gives a more appealing result, I think the finer detailed stamps get lost on this technique.

I don't know how to add a pic (I'm technology challenged) and the first attempts aren't pretty either. Maybe when I've had some practice under my belt (both stamping and technology) I'll share. I would love to see others attempts though.

Thanks for posting this here - I'd never have found it otherwise, and I'm really wanting to try it out!

TFS.
I'm trying to watch my pennies right now as I want several large $$ home items. But I can't even count how many times these inks have been in and out of my amazon shopping cart. Maybe later this year I'll finally just say heck with it and buy before hitting "save for later". I still enjoy seeing all that people are doing with them.

I have two packages of glossy photo paper that come with my ink refills (stupid printer companies and their stupid bundles) that I really don't need or use... so I'll be trying this technique out.

I'm thinking of using this for die cut letters for titles.

I agree, it doesn't work well to do a rubbing motion on glossy paper. I tried that several weeks ago. I need to play and try out her technique with the stencils and stuff and see how that goes.

I saw Tim at a scrapbook show this weekend and he demonstrated this technique. It is so cool looking in real life. Totally sold me on the Distress Oxides.
He did tell us that it won't work on photo paper (because someone asked). He said the emulsion in the photo paper makes the page sticky.

Finally spent 15 minutes playing with the last video technique while waiting for the dryer (I stamp on my chest freezer in the laundry room). Here are my observations.
I first tried straight ink, mist, and smoosh on glossy photo paper, dry w/ heat gun and repeat. I love how fast the ink dries on the glossy paper. I buffed off the haze then smooshed again. If you don't buff the haze off it gets all over everything. I love the bright shiny colors.
Next I tried stamping first with a solid stamp then again with an outline stamp of the same pattern then smooshed the final color on. I really liked this result too.
I don't know if I will ever actually make something with this ink but I feel like a kid with a new box of crayons and I have to use them all RIGHT NOW!

I tried watching the video but couldn't get through either of them with all the non-art-related comments. Is it that she stamped, then misted, then smooshed, on glossy paper? I'd like to try it...

The last video she applied ink to mat, sprayed with water then drug photo paper through it. It drags more than if using cardstock and dries very fast with heat gun. If leave haze on you have to seal it because it rubs right off. If you wipe off the haze it is the vibrant colors with a glossy finish. I tried stamping first and then dragging paper through ink and I liked that result too. The first video she was stamping first then again through a stencil, then removed stencil and applied other colors over top with an applicator which will only adhere to any white areas. I find that it is hard to get a solid stamped image over the stencil so when applying the sponged on colors it gives a softer, blurrier result. Using a swirling motion and a pouncing motion with applicator creates very different effects. I also tried a clarity brush. It is addictive, have fun playing!
