Do you cook as good as "his Mother"?

Better.  By far.  And I can"t recall him ever requesting anything.  Pretty sad.

I'm a much better cook.
The only thing DH ever recalls fondly is baked macaroni and cheese with toast crumbs on top. I grew up eating pasta and cheese sauce made on the stovetop, so that's what I make. I should make the baked version for him sometime, I honestly never even think of it.

ETA: I've thought about it, and I take it back... I'm not a much better cook. I think I just season food better than she does. She is a good cook, very traditional in a lot of ways.

Better by far. His mother hated to cook, still does. The first time I made pork chops, he said, "So, this is what pork chops are supposed to taste like!"

My mother, OTOH, was an excellent cook. When my brothers got married, she made them promise to never say "My mom does it better..." She didn't want my SILs to resent her or her cooking.

Ha! I read that as your tortellini taste the same as vagina.  Kind of made me laugh!

DH says I'm better. But, neither myself nor MIL are very good cooks, so that's not saying much.

I am a MUCH better cook. My husband had never seen anyone make mashed potatoes from real potatoes and not from a box. He also didn't know that Spaghetti O's could be made and not taste like metal, and that fresh/frozen veggies were much more tasty than canned.

Our cooking styles are so different so it is pretty hard to compare. She definitely makes amazing food but mine is definitely better for you, health wise.

There are some things I wouldn't touch that his mother makes.  My dh is old school Italian. They like lamb stew and soup. No thanks!
other than that I think not.  My dh loves my cooking.

I'm about a billion times better than her...I'm serious. You'd think salt was some exotic spice that has to be trekked in from the orient on the backs of scarab beetles, she's that skimpy with it. And that's about where seasoning ends with her. Bland roasts, flavorless chicken, "pizza" in a pan swimming in grease, disgusting scalloped corn and jello salads? Dry cookies and pie with hard, uncooked apples? She's got you covered. It's truly awful.
But, he's quite easy to please

I'm a much better cook! I remember the first time I said I was going to broil a steak. He didn't seem all that excited. When he ate it, he RAVED and said he didn't realize a broiled steak could be anything more than shoe leather. LOL Now she does make a couple of things that I haven't perfected...one is a recipe from FIL's mother. A depression food called touch. Basically shredded russet potatoes, flour and eggs drenched in butter. LOL Honestly, it's not something I really care for so I don't make it.

MIL isn't a horrible cook by any means. She makes several things that are outstanding. We just cook completely differently. I like to try new recipes, use fresh ingredients and make a huge effort to keep our diet healthy. She is a big fan of cream of soups, margarine and really dry meat. I don't think either of us is "better." When we visit MIL we always know the food will be hearty and good. Then we come home and do a cleanse or something. Lol

There are a few dishes that MIL makes that both DH & I love. She has taught me a couple and it completely ruined them for me because I saw how much oil/fat went into them

I have reworked lighter versions, and they taste just fine, but both DH love to let MIL feed us one every now & then. Day-to-day, DH prefers my cooking.

I cook much better than his mother. But she can't cook so that might no be saying much.

Mine didn't grow up with his mother--he grew up with his grandparents. His grandmother was just a standard "old country" kind of cook. His mom could could OK, but he never really talks about missing anything they made. He does a lot of the cooking, so maybe he cooks some things the way that they did, and I just don't know. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that I'm a better cook--he seems to love the things that I make. I'm also wayyy better than my mom. I grew up with lots of TV Dinners and frozen pot pies.
