Ok, I have to confess, I still use Picasa. But lately it's been pissing me right off, I'll create an album, but then the pictures won't show up there. And I can't find the original folder they came from, because DH and I have two different labeling systems....actually, he has more than a few....)(*&$#&(^......anyway, it's to the point that I'm ready to accept that it's time to find something new. So what do yall use? What do you love about it, what do you hate about it? Any I should avoid? What should I look for? I'd love to have something similar to Picasa that has basic editing tools, nothing fancy. Very few of my photos do I want to get all crazy with. Can't wait to hear what everyone here uses and loves! Thanks so much, Cindy

Ugh, I'm in the same boat. I LOVE Picasa and use it on my laptop. I have a new computer as well that has Photoshop Elements on it. I'm slowly and surely learning PSE, but I still prefer Picasa.
I also have RadLab on my new computer. It's quite like PicTapGo phone app and it's easy to use. I think the combination of PSE and RadLab will work for me eventually. The thing I don't like is that I cannot figure out how to customize the size of my photos to print. I print at home in all kinds of crazy sizes, so I need to figure out how to do that in PSE before I can ditch my laptop.

I just keep mine in Windows files. One folder for each year, divided into two folders for Originals and Edited.
Each Edited folder is divided into Pages that are organized in the same chronological order that they'll appear in the album.
I edit with PicMonkey.

I'm no help, I have used Picasa for years and I love it. I have not found another program like it.

I use Lightroom. I import the photos from my camera onto my EHD through Lightroom. Then I can label the folders, keyword the photos, star/flag any favorites, edit and print.

google photos is the phoenix that has risen from the ashes of picasa, so check that out first. Steph has a great free class on it at www.modernphotosolutions.com But I think it really depends on if you will be satisfied with what google photos has to offer. For me (mainly because I still adore using my DSLR to photograph my life) I feel I need Lightroom to really address my photo needs. But I do think for many people out there google photos will be more than adequate.

Not as much editing as Picassa but the search and sync make up for it.

It's an absolute necessity when you have pimply teenagers.

I know very little about Lightroom....is it easier than Photoshop Elements? That freaking thing had me so frustrated....it was not intuitive for me AT ALL and just gave up and went back to Picasa...then Picasa left me, but I was in denial til now. So, it's not ONLY editing, it is used for organization and storage as well? Hmmmm......please please tell me it's simpler than Elements!

I do like to tweek my photos and as someone else mentioned, I have a teenager.... I just didn't have the patience to work with PSE enough to get to a point that I got over the learning curve and my stubborn-ness! Is Lightroom very different from PSE? A few years ago I did a bit of research and decided on an editing program, but DH surprised me and bought PSE for me.....that wasn't the one I had decided on.... I gave it a decent chance but, yeah.....and now I don't remember what I DID decide on! UGH....old age and all....

I'm still using Picasa but only as an organizer. I use PSE for editing. I plan to [eventually] make the switch to Google photos.

I gave it a decent chance but, yeah.....and now I don't remember what I DID decide on! UGH....old age and all.... There is a big difference between a program like photoshop vs. a photo organization program. -PSE is really made for intensive edits and is perfect for things like digital scrapbooking, and as you've found it can be quite the learning curve. It does have an organizer as part of it, but I find it is super clunky and I would not recommend - I wish they would drop that part of the program all together as it is a poor example of what can actually be done with your photos. -Lightroom is designed to be the ideal workflow for professional photographers as it combines the processing of RAW file types (from DSLRs) and the organization component. Of course it handles JPEGs, GIF, TIFF, etc. files beautifully as well. If you don't already own it (and don't need to process RAW files frequently) I would suggest trying the google photos first. Lightroom is a good choice if you want to really wade in deep into controlling your metadata, as it does things like changing file names, creating smart collections, allowing you to adjust GPS information, inputting keywords, etc. -Google Photos allows you to both organize and edit your photos. It uses a similar algorithm to the google image search to retrieve specified photos. You don't have a lot of control over inputting or editing your metadata, but I think most people are not interested in that level of minutiae. Google photos does most of the organizational work for you so that it feels more like you are playing with your photos rather than processing them via a workflow. I do find their editing feature reasonably adequate for snapshots - especially those that have come from my phone. I hope that helps some! Let me know if you have any specific questions.

For organising photos I've used ACDSee for over 10 years. Well, I say organising... I don't categorise, I don't tag, I don't make collections. I simply have the current year>month, with all the archived years the same. It does have an editor too, and it's fairly easy to use and has some great effects. I use it occasionally, though most of my editing I do in PaintShop Pro. It's reasonably priced, you don't have to upgrade all the time, just choose if you want to and upgrade prices are usually a great price.

I'm not nearly as proficient or organized with my photos as I should be. I always save them to my computer and EHD in folders by year and subfolders by date. I have these and my iphone photos set to upload to Google Photos and flickr automatically.
Google photos is a great organizational tool. I can search within it for easy access. That said, when I've tried to download to the photos to print. I have not been ok with the quality. I do the free version of google photos so it's not the highest quality but a good quality. So when I find the photo I'm searching for, I go to my computer folders to find it and then edit the item for printing in PSE.
I have bought Lightroom, but not installed it yet.

Because I use Photoshop Elements for editing, I also use the organizer to organize my files. It's better now than it used to be so I doubt I'll change it anytime soon.

I used Google Photos when I first had my phone with a camera. For a while it was excellent but overnight it halved the pixel count of uploaded photos. I hadn't changed any settings, nor was I anywhere near my storage limit. According to the instructions anything up to 16MP should have been kept at full resolution, but it wasn't. Apart from One Drive I don't use any photo cloud online, just in case it starts reducing the quality. I pull my photos off, and save them to my computer hard drive and a cloud drive we have instead.
