This year was my first year as a Girl Scout leader and two other leaders very nicely let me join them for the year because I didn't have enough girls to form my own troop. I now have enough girls and we will be on our own next year.
I want to get each of these ladies a gift to show my deep appreciation for all they have done for me and my girls. They really did everything and let me reap the benefits. My budget is around $50 for each. They are both very busy moms. Very practical, not a lot of attention to fashion or makeup. I don't know that they have any hobbies outside of girl scouts. The gift does not need to be girl scout related - in fact, I want to give them something that is just for them that they don't have to share with family or the troop.
What do think would be a thoughtful gift?

That is very kind and thoughtful of you. I know that one of the mums in my troop(who is moving away) gave me a lovely gift basket as a thank you for taking over the troop and making it a good year for her daughter and the other girls. She picked items that were perfect for ME - two books (history), tea, biscuits (cookies), a tea cup, honey, a candle - and wrote a lovely note that I'll treasure long after the tea and biscuits are gone.
So my suggestion is if you know what they would treat themselves to (or would like to treat themselves to), then a gift basket or gift certificate of those treats would be perfect. And enclose a note telling them how appreciated they are - that'll mean the most.

I've received a lot of gift cards over the years. One thing that I had that I used the heck out of was a big scrapbooking tote with wheels. I could carry all my paperwork, badge work, craft supplies, etc in there and could keep it packed from week to week. It was helpful when I needed scissors or glue sticks for a project, but didn't think about that. And then they would be in the bag!
When we moved away, they gave me a scrapbook where each girl had decorated a page and then the other leader filled in with photos. The girls are all graduating HS this year and it's fun to look back!

The first thing I thought of was a tote bag. I like the personalized ones that disneypal suggested. GS leaders always need more totes.

I vote for a gift card, I don't think you could go wrong with that. And a heart felt note.

One of the favorite gifts I received was a gift certificate for a manicure/pedicure. It was a welcome luxury.

My daughter is a girl scout leader and two of the mother's in her troop gave her a "box" of adult women goodies. They cover an office paper box that had handle holes cut out with gift wrapping paper and filled it with fun stuff for her. This included a nice bottle of hand lotion, a package of hair scrunchies, a neck pillow, a cute cup, some tea, cocoa mix, a couple of the newest "used" paperbacks from the used bookstore, nail files, a couple of cute nail polish colors, fluffy socks, an inexpensive afghan, a cd of music she likes made by one of the husbands, a used dvd of a movie from a thrift store (chick movie),pack of goldfish crackers (one of favs), a jar of spinach dip and some chips (more favs), etc. It was really cool. Meant just for her to relax over the summer. Nothing very expensive but still really great fun for her. And the box can be used to bring stuff to meeting and didn't cost much to put together unlike a basket. She really loves it

In the olden days when I was the GS leader, my favorite gifts received were cards or ornaments the girls made themselves. One Mom gave me a restaurant gift card, that was great, one less meal to make!
