I think I'm addicted!
I read the book and someone mentioned to me that Hulu had a series based on it. This is one of the few times I like the book and the TV/movie equally well.

I am! I have not read the book, although I intend to, and I love the show. Elizabeth Moss is wonderful and the whole cast does a spectacular job in their roles. I plan on watching the newest episode tonight!

Yes, I just finished watching the latest episode...wow! There are a lot of surprises. I read the book and am glad that the series is expanding the perspectives more. I can't wait until next week's episode. So glad there's going to be a Season 2!

I am loving the story and the way the characters are developed.

I was having a little trouble with the changes in the story line. It is REALLY different from the book, a lot is added, and major changes. The exchange with Mexico??? But I did like this week's episode. I think I'm just going to let the book go... I think the series is really good.

I'm planning to binge watch when it gets closer to the end, I hate waiting between episodes.

Well that's such a co-incidence that you started this thread today.
I hadn't heard of this book or movie until last night. My step-SIL was talking about it, and said that she was traumatised by it when she had to read it in high school, and when she found out that her daughter would be studying it in Year 7 or 8 (which is still a couple of years away) she made a complaint to the school.
As I had never read it, I looked it up in Wikipedia this morning to see what was so traumatic about it. To be honest, from what I read about the plot I think she may be over-reacting, but at the same time I'm not sure it is such a great choice for 12-13 year olds.
It has piqued my interest anyway, and I'd like to watch it.

I had problems with it at first too, but I love that the series can stand on its own. Kinda like True Blood (if you read the books and watched the series). This is the first I've heard of a Season 2, and I'm excited to see where they take it. SaveSave

I had to read the book years ago in school. It was neither my favorite, nor did I hate it. I certainly wasn't traumatized.
I started watching the show on Hulu. I watched, I think, three or four episodes. It's definitely different from the book which I find distracting.
I've given up on it for now. However I'm planning on trying to binge watch once the season is over. I think it will work better for me if I watch it all at once, less time to compare to the book between episodes.lol

The HULU series is much more graphic than the book. I think the sex in the book might not be appropriate for the younger kids.

You still have kids thinking the opposite sex is icky, and some who have their first boyfriends. I think the forced sex, rape, is too mature of a topic to be depicted in that way. That said, when the series is close to the end I am getting Hulu. I loved the book.

I think I read it when I was 16/17. SaveSaveSaveSave

I'll have to check with my SIL to see what year they study the book. I would think that Year 9 is more appropriate than Year 7 or 8.

This may be one of those series like True Blood where I am glad I didn't read the book.
