Often, when I grab a pen to quickly jot down a note, I'll start writing the 2nd letter in the word.
I just wrote the word STEEPLE, and made the T first, then had to backtrack for the S.
Do you do anything weird like this?

I write the number 8 backwards, I start at the top and go left to right and I do a 5 from the bottom to the top. My handwriting is a combination of cursive and printing. There are certain letters I just can't seem it write in cursive anymore.

Yes, when I'm in a hurry I don't pay attention to the order of the letters as long as they are all there

I also mix cursive with normal print. I've done that since middle school. Probably because I didn't like how some of my letters looked in cursive

I often teach small groups at my teacher table. I have mastered the art of writing upside down and legibly. I have trouble only writing the letter e and the number 5.

I write my fs backwards, I remember having to stay in at playtimes rewriting stories in my exercise book because of those stupid fs. I never have mastered doing them the right way round.

I have lousy handwriting but nothing quirky that I can think of. My question is, why on earth were you writing Steeple? I cannot think of a single time I've ever had to write the word steeple, so I gotta know what you were doing....writing a letter? To-do list? Grocery list? Inquiring minds wanna know.

My question is, why on earth were you writing Steeple? The name of a local street. I was jotting down an address.

I sometimes write letters upside down or sideways. I write certain letters like lowercase a or O's the opposite way that everyone else would. I have a learning disability. Typing is a much better option for me.

Ditto. I just tried to do it the other way and it feels totally wrong (and looks like a 1st grader's 8).
I go back and forth with lowercase "a"s, sometimes I add the little hook at the top, sometimes I don't - all within the same page/paragraph.

Oh, totally, but I couldn't think of a reason you'd need to write it down.....I should have asked if she was writing down the game instructions

I'm left handed. That's weird enough for most.
I underline last names. It's a work habit that's trickled over into an every day habit. I can flip through my notebook and just look at the underlined names to find notes from a conversation with a client. If I write you a check (for some odd, archaic reason), your last name will be underlined.

I mix cursive and printing...often in the same word! My handwriting is atrocious (so much so that people hand me other bad handwriting to decipher!) so I usually try to print. Then I get in a hurry and switch to cursive. After a few lines of that I realize no one can read it and switch back to printing. Needless to say, I type as much as I can. I also cross my 7's, which for some people is normal but here in the US isn't. I write the number 8 backwards, I start at the top and go left to right and I do a 5 from the bottom to the top. My handwriting is a combination of cursive and printing. There are certain letters I just can't seem it write in cursive anymore. I write the number 8 the same way. It's how it was taught when I was in school. Do they teach a different method now?

My signature is very rarely have the same twice in a row. This was only ever a problem when I was signing a document for a home loan and they insisted that my signature needed to be in cursive and legible. It sincerely is neither one, I had to think about how I was going to do that.

This is the most Sharla-ey of Sharla questions For sure!! The first words that popped into my head when I read the question was "That's because you're a crazy woman!" And I mean that in the nicest possible way sharlag, I love your posts. I write the number 8 backwards, I start at the top and go left to right and I do a 5 from the bottom to the top. My handwriting is a combination of cursive and printing. There are certain letters I just can't seem it write in cursive anymore. I'm pretty sure most people write 8 from the top and left to right. But most people would start 5 at the top. I also use a mix of print and cursive, and I have noticed that I can barely write anymore, I use the computer too much.
