My friend and I just signed up for 2 retreats. One in October and one in February. Can't wait. The October retreat is held at a cabin and the other one is a large hotel retreat. I'm so ready to get away for some scrapping fun.

I scrap better when my friend & I go to retreats. We have been fortunate that everyone is always friendly & everyone loves to share - products, tools or just stories. It gets you excited & motivated. Have fun!

I get so much done at retreats. I go to two at the beach at a hotel, one in Nov and one in Feb. It's a long time from February to November!

Can anyone recommend good ones by name? I'm always curious about them (never been to one), but I'm afraid of arriving and finding things not up to snuff.

Back in the days when I paper scrapped I went to day crops and organized weekends (Thursday night - Sunday morning). I always got so much accomplished. I think it helps that you are away from the hustle and bustle of home and the excitement or vibe of being with others who are doing the same thing.
Enjoy!

I can come up with some to recommend if you are an East coast girl! It looks like you are in NYC area, and there are lots in New Jersey. I can right off the bat recommend Escape Scrapbooking retreats in New Jersey. Could you go to something like that? She was at one in April in Sicklersville, NJ and one in Hillsborough, NJ. If you are on Facebook friend Escape Scrapbooking and ask what she knows about. There is an Expo in NJ as well that would be good.

I think it depends on what you want at a retreat. (And until you have attended one, that's maybe hard to identify) Are you looking for a place and time to yourself for uninterrupted crafting? Find an LSS that hosts a regular crop. Find out how much space you will have, pack up as much stuff as you like, with the added option of picking up "just what you need" from the on site store. Take some ear plugs and get in the zone. Do do you want to have fun, meet crafty people, get energized by contests and games and excitement? Register for a crop attached to an expo, don't pack a lot, don't make any production goals, and just have fun! do you have a group of people who want to get together to play, want to keep costs down, don't mind going pot luck, look forward to a day or two of chatting and creating? Get together, rent a vacation condo or cabin for a few days, decide who is bringing what tools, pack up and go! do you want to learn about the latest and greatest trends and techniques? Find a crop with classes and freebies. I see myboysnme recommended a place to start. Hope you find something that works for you!

I miss my retreats with my friends. We used to rent a cabin in the mountains and just have a ton of fun. So much got done!! And we usually got to shop a little in Breckenridge, get some Starbucks, find our LSS there, get some new supplies, maybe eat dinner out or get back to the cabin, where another gal who didn't scrap as much liked to cook. How's that for a perfect long weekend? I MISS those!

myboysnme - thank you so much! I am indeed in NYC. I go to the Expo in Somerset most years, but just for the day - and mostly to shop! I'd love a full-service, hotel- (B&B-) based retreat, where I could crop for 2-3 days (1-2 nights) with a vendor on site for adhesive emergencies. I would like to go with some friends, but I'd also like to meet & get inspired by some new people. I do NOT want to have to cook or do dishes. Here's the rub: no car. I don't really drive unless it's an emergency and/or a perfectly clear day on roads I know.

I'm thinking of going to my first expo. I've never heard of almost all the vendors. Do you all find things you like? Seems like few, unknown companies. Am I missing something?

On facebook type in Escape Scrapbooking or look for Sharita Barber - she owns it. She's out of Philly.

The Stamp and Scrapbook Expo is in Edison, NJ Aug 11-12. I do not know if that is the same thing as the Somerset Scrapbook Expo the same weekend. I go to the one in Chantilly and it is wonderful! I'm going in about 2 weeks.
At expos and conventions I generally budget about $400 and my friend and I are there both days from open to close. We sometimes do the crops.
The only thing I hate about it is my legs and feet get so worn out on the cement floors of the show floor - being on them pretty much a straight 10 hours. Everything else is great! I like the Expo crops because the crop area is open all day so I can go back and forth to the vendor area and drop off my stuff.
