I'm feeling like I want to have some kind of record of what this presidency has been like (I'm feeling like it may be sort of famous, looking back).
Anyone else thinking of scrapping this?
I did make a layout about the election. A very facts-only page.

I'm staying far away from that lol but I am going to scrapbook when I went to vote- I had to take an oath to vote and sign a paper and it was a really neat moment so I will scrapbook that

Love your thoughtful threads!
I have a piece of Presidential seal paper that I have been using pieces of for a number of President related layouts, but not this president.
I had the occasion to see George Bush 1 and used it for that, I met Bill Clinton and used it for that, went to a rally for Barack Obama when he was campaigning and used it for that.
I did a voting layout because my sons went with me to vote and snapped some selfies. Had there been the first ever woman president I would have scrapped it. As it is, I am not scrapping anything to do with this president.
I'm not much of a current events scrapbooker - I did one page for Katrina and 1 page for 9/11 because I thought the boys would be interested since they were young when those events happened but in their lifetime.
I'm interested to see what kind of things people are scrapping in relation to this presidency.

I'm in the UK, so my reply is a more general answer to the original question, but yes, I occasionally include current events in my PL like election results and so on. I base my memory keeping on what I wish my Grandma had recorded so if something significant is happening, I'll include a news screenshot or weather report because I think it adds a bit of perspective. Occasionally, rather than a filler card, I'll print out one of those daily stats from the news... the population, maybe, or the exchange rate. For the same reason, I'll sometimes tuck a supermarket receipt behind a daily photo in the hope that at some point in the future someone might take a while to learn about what life was like in 2017!
All of that's a lengthy way of saying, yes, I think it's good to record current opinion and put your thoughts on the record!

I include who won the election and any funny memes regardless of party. The latest making my album is "covfefe". I also include major world events.

I keep some of the bigger stuff - the bombings in London, Trump election, and whatnot. I don't include it every month though.

I don't really scrap current events and really don't like politics... I might journal or blog about the presidency or the election, but my scrapbooks are my happy place...

I haven't done anything political, and I doubt I will. I did do one current events page last year. We had an awful night here, with a mass shooting at a shopping center. There were a lot of conflicting reports at first, even thoughts it may be terror related (it wasn't; just a very messed up kid who took it out on random victims). I used newspaper reports and screenshots from our Police twitter stream to make the page. It was as much about processing the events as recording them.

Did you do entire pages for them, or are you doing pocket pages? I really want to do stuff like covfefe, but I'm thinking maybe just PL cards.

As it is, I am not scrapping anything to do with this president. I understand the sentiment. I'm interested to see what kind of things people are scrapping in relation to this presidency. Well, I just feel like it's one thing after another with 45. I can't pick my jaw up off the floor from one outrageous thing he says or does before the next one happens. But I do feel that looking back twenty or thirty years from now, it will be an infamous scandal in history. And I want to document it because I'm living it.

I don't scrap current events in general, but not on purpose. I just forget about them as something to include! Thanks for the reminder, haha. It's a good way to fill some pockets if I don't have enough pictures.

I don't generally scrapbook current events but even if I did, I don't think I could bring myself to scrapping this presidency. I scrap for enjoyment. It would make me much too crabby.

The closest thing I have ever scrapped anything political was my visit to Washington DC... all the touristy stuff. I don't scrap current events for the most part, unless it is part of some museum thing, like the Oklahoma Bombing.. we visited the sites there. Seems to me I might have done one type of current event but I can't remember what it was and it was awhile ago (not 9/11).

I include some current events but tend to do select what I wish to keep and find an angle I'm comfortable (ish) working with/seeing over and over again. The election of our latest president over here made it easy as it went the way I wanted, contrary to your situation. I added a screenshot of the result that is shown on public TV at 8PM sharp in our country on presidential election night. Had the result been otherwise and Marine Le Pen won, I would not have added that screenshot to my album but rather the headline of a newspaper that belongs to my side of the political spectrum the following day. I would've found it far more stomachable to work with a photo of a newspaper lamenting what the result would've meant for the country rather than her smiling face with the percentage of votes. You're a scrapbooker, not a neutral and objective historian. Work with and around current events as it suits you and in a manner that helps you in expressing how you feel about them. Emoji Love by SS needs an extension pack with some hear-no-evil monkey faces and plain poo emojis... But they do have "seriously!" and OMG! already in there.

Maybe we should be keeping contemporaneous memos of the news drips, just in case some alternative facts try to take the place of the truth.

I was a high school senior when Nixon resigned. If something happens like that with 45 I will probably document it along with a foggy memory of Nixon. I have a feeling we have not even seen the tip of the iceberg with this one.

When I first started reading your post I thought the US election went the way you wanted, which is fine, but when you said Marine LePen I thought immediately, if I had the French president I'd scrap him too! I could definitely enjoy reminiscing about him in my golden years~

I included a photo collage about the women's march and I did include the election (and my sadness over the outcome) in my November project, but honestly...I'm trying to steer clear of it as much as I can. It's constantly in my 'trending' on facebook and no amount of removing political things from it has gotten through to the FB algorithm that I want to pretend like the country isn't in a state of complete chaos.
I'm all for including the good and bad in our albums, but I really don't want to look back on things that made me miserable. If there are events that touch me that I feel would be nice to look at (like the women's march) in the future to remind myself that even in the dark, people were pushing back working against that darkness, then yes, I'll include it. Seeing as I didn't really include anything in the past about politics when I was happy with the administration, it would seem really strange to suddenly focus on all of the negative just because I don't like agent orange and what he's doing.

I scrapped the election night and the Womxn's March but what has happened over the past 6 months makes me want to kick puppies so it will definitely not make it into my scrapbook. I am currently battling "2016 Part Two" in my life and have no time for 45's drama lol.

I am keeping a journal these days and my political-related ponderings go in there. Also I have a line-a-day 5 year journal and I include major events in there. I think it helps to give context and makes it more interesting. I saw an interesting video by Danny Gregory (who does a lot of sketchbooks) and he had bought some old journals in thrift stores. The ones that gave social and political context were far more interesting than ones which solely focused on the writers life.
With that said, I wouldn't include them in my scrapbooks because I use those as a 'highlights reel' that is just about my life.

I also include major celebrities when they die if they were important in my world view. Major stories like Ferguson riots, Treyvon Martin protests, DOMA, BP disaster, Dallas Police ambush, Charlie Hebdo, Orlando, etc. There seem to be more and more of those lately and it seriously sucks. But memes, oh how i love memes. They capture a moment in time so perfectly.

I should! I have all these ideas in my head, but they are never executed on paper. One album I've wanted to do for a long time is Where were you when.....? Big events in history like 9/11, The Challenger explosion, or smaller things like first time I voted. Regardless of who wins, some events in history are more etched in our minds.
