As a Registered Republican, I am disgusted with Eric Trump. His comment was no better than the Deplorable comment. IMHO there is no good defense for either.

Actually if you read the entire "deplorable" quote it's no where near as disgusting as Eric trump rant. Here's the entire quote about the deplorables. I can't argue with what she said. I mean Stephen Miller and Steve Bannon are known to be white nationalist and they are advising trump in the West Wing. “You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Right? The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic — you name it. And unfortunately there are people like that. And he has lifted them up. He has given voice to their websites that used to only have 11,000 people — now 11 million. He tweets and retweets their offensive, hateful, mean-spirited rhetoric. Now some of those folks — they are irredeemable, but thankfully they are not America.” Then, she continued: “But the other basket — and I know this because I see friends from all over America here — I see friends from Florida and Georgia and South Carolina and Texas — as well as, you know, New York and California — but that other basket of people are people who feel that the government has let them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures, and they’re just desperate for change. It doesn’t really even matter where it comes from. They don’t buy everything he says, but he seems to hold out some hope that their lives will be different. They won’t wake up and see their jobs disappear, lose a kid to heroin, feel like they’re in a dead end. Those are people we have to understand and empathize with as well.”

It makes me sad and a little fearful that our top leaders really feel that the 50% of us on any given day that are of a different political party are viewed as enemies. What happened to liberty and justice for ALL? What happened to being the President of the UNITED STATES? Not just the ones who voted for you.
The rhetoric of this presidency has definitely been an enemies v allies. For those of us classed as subhuman enemies by the people in charge of the nation's arsenal, it's not a fun feeling. I keep going back to Animal Farm. The analogys are endless. The animals are humanized and are equal - until they are not equal. Four legs good/two legs bad of course until pigs walk on 2 feet then four legs good two legs better. So, any guesses who will be Trumps 'snowball'?

“You know, to just be grossly generalistic, you could put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call the basket of deplorables. Eric stated that 'Dems aren't even people".... She said DT supporters ... I think supporters are people. She in fact mentions people several times...

so 'basket of deplorables' isn't as bad as what Eric Trump said, because he doesn't even see Democrats as people. I think that's what you're saying, right?

I do think 'basket of deplorables' should not have been used, but by that time everything was headed so far down hill with DT leading the parade.

Anybody who believes in eugenics and an all white country are indeed deplorables. Actually I would have used a different word then deplorables and it's not as nice as deplorables. If you're not sure what "eugenics " means I suggest you read about it and its relationship to white nationalist. It's disgusting.

Not saying that the Trumps are closet white supremacists, but "Dems aren't even people" is an interesting (and odd) turn of phrase. Especially in light of Eric Trump's past comments about his "breeding." Definition of Untermensch

Surely you can't seriously think that calling a group of people.....a collective word to call a group of human beings, deplorable as Hillary did, to what Eric Trump said "They're not even people" Deplorable......... persons( people) that deserve strong condemnation and their actions are unacceptable. ( Hillary) They're not even people .........persons that are not human. ( Eric Trump )

However, or whatever HRC said, those supporters have shown she was right on with her description of them. Hell, it's right on for the entire Trump family (maybe minus Ivanka)with DJT at the core.
Eric Trump *is* a Deplorable. He just proved it!

I think people who were outraged about the deplorable comment a) didn't listen to the whole speech in context and b) didn't truly know what deplorable meant. They just jumped on it, with the idea that "she's calling us names!" And of course being ok with the fact that trump constantly lies and calls people names.

Maybe they could also look at the gun deaths in the US compared to many many other countries too while they're at it It seems to me that Nancy Pelosi is being sarcastic.......can't those presenters recognize sarcasm when they hear it?

Don, Jr. defending his dad re: Mayor of London on GMA: Don, Jr. And Nancy Pelosi re: Trump's grandchildren/air (I don't even know what this means): Nancy Pelosi I just listened to the Nancy video. You fell into the Fox News trap that they want you to buy into their view of a story regardless what the video is showing. Her comment was indeed sarcastic. And she asked good questions . What do you tell the younger generation when the air everywhere looks like Beijing and the older generation, despite what the scientists said, did nothing. And we all know trump thinks him and his family are special and rules don't apply to them. So who knows if they breath air like the rest of us do. You know because they are so special. May I make a suggestion. If you are going to fall in that "they did it to" group then you may want to make sure the "they did it" part is solid and not someone being somewhat sarcastic as in this case. Otherwise you lose that "gotcha" you are trying for. The troubling part with Eric's comments is that I truly believes he means them and that he gets that type of thinking from his father who just so happens to be president of this country.

But imho 'class' doesn't take poor people to court for moving out of a building WITH permission, ( because the building is moldy or has holes etc ) 3 years before you bought it. You know, just to see if they kept their proof of permission for 3+ years. And if they didn't keep their permission slip for three years OR it faded ( those are often those triplicate copies which fade ) you get cash off the backs of people barely making ends meet. Yeah, that's 'class'

Those are people we have to understand and empathize with as well.” While I knew she stepped in it (wouldn't go over well) as soon as she said it, I often wonder if she had switched the two around, how it would have been perceived. As in, mentioned the first basket ("basket of people are people who feel that the government has let them down"...), and the minority second "deplorable" basket second. Maybe people stopped hearing/listening after the deplorable word was spoken. I can't not agree that the Alt-right/white supremacists are deplorable and are (mostly) trump supporters. ETA I also would question the use of the term "half"- in Trumps supporters being deplorable. I wouldn't even venture to guess percentage. But, as Joey from Friends says, "it's a moo point" at this point.

Often it depends on who's sound bites one listen to that determines what view of the story they get. In other words it wouldn't have matter what position she referred to the alt right as deplorables because for the right only the part about the deplorables became their version of the entire story. And that was reflected in their sound bites. And that is what the majority if not all of the trump supporters believed.

I don't think she ever apologized for the deplorable comments (at least, I hope she didn't) but she did apologize for saying "half" of Trump supporters were deplorables. She said it was a lazy generalization or something along those lines, and that it was actually a much smaller percentage and she was sorry. No one listened, of course. All they heard, and, for the most part, all they wanted to hear, was "Trump supporters are a basket of deplorables."
