If you like forensic science-type shows, one of my favorite shows is Catching Killers (Amazon). Two seasons. The shows take a specific forensic science -- fingerprinting, DNA, profiling, ballistics, etc. -- and discuss a case from history and a more recent case that both were solved using that particular science.

Let's see my favorites from the last 6 months or so:
House Downton Abbey Parenthood (my all time favorite show) Z The beginning of Everything (only one season so far)
I loved Mozart in the Jungles first season and the second much less; it got too weird and artsy. I loved Girls also, but not all seasons are available on prime and that ticks me off! I got totally hooked on it, got 2-3 seasons in and now I either have to pay or not watch the rest.
I tried and didn't care for (and therefore didn't finish) Rectify, Sex and the City, Black Mirror, and 13 Reasons Why.
Next up I will binge the new OITNB and then start the Americans. And keep looking for a probably illegal version of Girls lol.
Always on repeat when I need a quickie show are Parks & Rec and The Office.

I've read good things about The Keepers on Netflix (true crime), but haven't watched it yet.
No idea what kind of shows you like, but I just finished both seasons of Master of None on Netflix and really enjoyed it.

I'm enjoying Grand Designs on Netflix about the planning and construction of modern homes in Great Britain. It is far better than anything on HGTV.

Netflix: The Investigator (British murder investigation) Prime: There's something wrong with Aunt Diane (Documentary about Diane Schuler...wrong way driver on the Taconic Parkway in NY who killed 8 people) and Unsolved Mysteries (the originals with Robert Stack...LOVE them).

Netflix: I watched The Keepers. Excellent, but I wouldn't recommend a binge watch of this series because it's quite heavy.
For pure escapism, try The Last Kingdom. It's set in 9th century England and it very entertaining. It's along the lines of Game of Thrones, but tamer. I really like it and it is based on real history.

Can't recommend this to everyone as it definitely has an intended audience, but I watched Lovesick on Netflix and then made DH watch it and he wanted to watch it again. It's a British show that is being renewed for a third season. The characters are really endearing, but a bit raunchy-not a family appropriate show.

I'm surprised you think it is underrated as Margo Martindale has won a couple of Emmys for her role and it has been nominated in numerous categories. I thought it was getting the recognition it deserves. I will watch anything with Margo in it and highly recommend adding Sneaky Pete to your viewing list PolarGreen12. Good Girls Revolt is another good choice (both are Amazon Originals). SaveSave

Loved Shetland. The scenery is worth it, but the story is great, too.

If you are OK with some language and nudity "Shameless" on Netflix is awesome

Great thread I just added a lot of shows to watch I just wish more of these were ones I could watch and not have to worry about my 14 year old. Most can't be watched in front of him Because of this and the fact it is summer my list is just growing. I think I need to sneak a few of these in somehow

I think I have a weird fan girl crush on William H Macy. I sat a few rows behind him at a Thunder game a few years ago. My friends had to keep me in my seat. Lol

I'm in Australia so I'm not sure if our versions of Netflix are the same (I cannot get the new OITNB for instance .....Edited - looks like I will get it but not til 5pm) Line of Duty is an excellent British crime drama, police investigating corrupt police. 3 seasons available

Do you have any conclusions to Mary Catherine's murder? (The Keepers)... I have the final episode to watch and I'm torn. I can't believe that they didn't solve this murder.
