It had all kinds of things from scores, class lwtters, etc... Odd. Why would you need scores for anything other than your transcript when school is over? What are class letters? Our kids get something similar. It's a file passed from teacher to teacher (once you hit middle school your home room teacher) and holds a wtiting sample from each year (k-2 is usually a journal entry while 3-12 is a report/ paper. Along with a card that had a small picture of the student for all 13 years.

If he had a hard time finishing classes and exams they shouldn't be that shocked. I'd be surprised the kid didn't know and just didn't tell. Pretty crappy to not give the parents a heads up.

Happened with my nephew. They actually didn't allow him to walk after telling him he could so my SIL was a tad upset after spending $$$ on gown etc. I believe, he finally finished up the one class he needed too, but we'll never know. His mom proceeded to have his grad party like he actually graduated. Quite a few people were PO'd about that. Knowing he didn't graduate and this party was being given and gifts expected.

If it was my kid, I would be glad he was able to walk and that he could finish up in two weeks. I'd have his butt at school every day and make sure he completed the work.
The kid should be thankful he is being given the time to finish.

It seems like a nice solution to me. Let the kid celebrate with his peers, but still do the work. We'd be reading a whole different vent if he was denied the other graduation festivities over one incomplete class, missed final, etc.
I'd look a little askance at the kid or parents who didn't know he was in this mess and are "surprised" by the voicemail.
I can't believe anyone in this day and age thinks the Paper certificate of the diploma means anything.

Is a 12 year file a cumulative file? We definitely do NOT give that to the kids when they graduate. I'm stunned any district does!

Here graduation is traditionally May long weekend. The end of school is June 20something. They say technically it's not graduation it's commencement. For completing 12 years of school since you technically could still fail. Well technically you haven't graduated or completed 12 years of school either. You have to be in a good academic position to participate in the ceremony, but there is a chance for quite a few if they bomb all their finals they wouldn't pass. So they obviously don't get a diploma they get a certificate.
