Luckily there are a lot of people out there who love quirky things and places. This is not a real estate listing but an article in our paper about it. This fix-it-up house straddles the US/Canadian border. If you are American and enter in the front door you need to leave by the front door. If you are Canadian and enter in through the back door you need to leave by the back door. It is someplace where you definitely need to keep and eye on your visitors and give them house rules when they arrive. house for sale that is on the border of US/CanHopefully the link works and that the article is accessible.

That was a really interesting read. I can't imagine living in a house where my comings and goings were monitored by border guards!

Well, my BIL is a US citizen currently living/working in Canada, his wife is a dual citizen (Canada/US), one child is considered an American citizen but legal status in Canada is something like "legal dependent of a foreign worker" and other daughter is Canadian. Unfortunately, they are in the process of divorcing, but maybe this is the perfect answer for staying close to the kids for both of them!

we went on a 1000 island boat cruise to boldt castle with our kids this past summer.
the piped in tourist commentary mentioned one island that was in canada.... and the tiny island adjoined to it was in the united states (or vice-versa??). there was some corny joke about leaving the country if his wife was mad at him!!

There is a pond in the area I go to frequestly that is half in the US and half in Canada. We kayak on it and you can go anywhere on the water with no issue. You can not get out on land on the Canadian side however. But in the winter when the pond if frozen you have to stay on the US side because it is considered land. Got to love them borders.

That's fascinating. Wondering if someone would try and build a wall right through the middle of the house

Very cool! I lived in a town that straddled the US/CAN border. It actually bordered the US and Quebec & Ontario. On the US side, it was in one county and a small part of another county. If you travel from the US to the Canadian side, it was no big deal. There used to be a customs building that you had to check in with, but they got rid of that back in the late 60s.
I worked in a building that straddled the border. I think it was more of a diagonal line, but the back door was US territory, and the front door was Canadian territory. But no agency monitored it.

We also have a camp near Danville/Joe's Pond..

So are they only able to use part of their yard? I am not sure, good question. I would guess if you were American you could use the front yard without issue. I am guessing after a while Border patrol knows your routine...just another reason that it would not be the house for me.

I'm in St. J. Nice. Lisa D. I love the area. Heading up this weekend and I can't wait. Hoping the rain holds off though. This is the first time since fall. I usually spend the last week of May up there but we weren't able to open our camp until later...so I am chomping at the bit to get up there.

Wow. It would be difficult to try to live there.
But a good place to turn back into a tourist shop of sorts.
