...I read this in a flyer at church today. It cracks me up, because Noah was my great-grandfather's name! What goes around comes around... The rest of the boys' top ten names: Liam, Jacob, Mason, William, Ethan, Michael, Alexander, Jayden and Daniel. Girls' names: Emma, Olivia, Isabella, Ava, Mia, Emily, Abigail, Madison and Elizabeth. This is all according to the Social Security Administration. I'm kind of surprised at how many traditional names there are that are still popular. Sometimes it seems like everybody's naming their kid Orangejello, you know?

My oldest dd (age 15) is an Emma and she probably would have been a Liam if she was a boy If we had known that Emma was going to be so popular I don't know if we would have chosen it

I like both of those names, especially Noah, but none of my kids have them.

I think Sophia is a lovely name, but we more often see Sophie over here. In fact, whenever I here Sophia, I think of the Golden Girls!

I came across an article yesterday saying that Jack, Oliver, Amelia and Olivia headed the top 10 names for 2013 here. As you say, what goes round comes round....!

When we were trying to get pregnant with DD I was thinking about names. I swear, on a Saturday I decided that I loved the name Zoe Kaitlin and that was the name we would use if I did get pregnant and have a girl. On Monday my SIL announced that they were having a girl and her name was going to be Zoe Kaitlin. So, when I did get pregnant and it was a girl I went to the BOTTOM of the SS list and looked for names. She ended up being Cassandra Jane. And I'm really glad, I love it and no one around here has the same name!

LOL, I have a Noah (age 6) and his girlfriend is Sophie. They've been sweet on each other since pre-school.

I've been combing those lists for ideas and definitely no's since our son is due Oct.18th. DH so picky with boys names and leaving me in a stump. I have several traditional ones, that I tend to gravitate towards, that is sadly a no. Of course one of the names that was a top contender he's sweet on and having our 3 y o refer to his baby brother as just that, Dominic, which I love but haven't settled on yet. Hopefully that name is towards the bottom of the list lol.

I've come across a lot of Sophias. Both as a single name, and a double name---Sophia Grace, Sophia Rose, etc.

I knew a Noah in college who is in his late 30s by now, but his brother was also named Gideon, so clearly his parents liked biblical names. I'm surprised Jayden is so popular, but you can't argue with the numbers.

That is just about the same as the English full list - the world is definitely a small place these days!

I'm pretty happy that the names we've chosen for these babies aren't on any of those lists. We didn't want anything outlandish, but we wanted them to be the only people with their names in their class at school.

I went old school with both of my boys and they have never been the only one with that name in class. LOL I didn't really pay attention when I named him, but my older son's name was on the top 10 for years. I don't really remember my now ex-husband having too much of an opinion on names beyond completely vetoing one name (Jarred.)

I teach Mommy & Me classes for infants and toddlers in addition to my preschool-elementary work, and I have never had a Jayden. I have had only one Mason. The other boy names do seem pretty popular.
The girl names - OMG, soooooooo many of all of them! And if they were tops last year, it looks like the raging river of Emmas, Sophias and Avas will continue flowing into my classes for a few more years. LOL!

We have a Maya (would have been a Jonah had she been a boy) and we had no idea how popular it would be. We love it though and she doesn't seem to care that there are many around. As loves that some of her books have characters that are Maya. So when dd #2 came around we wanted something less popular so she became a Bailey (would have been an Eli had she been a boy). We love her name too. She will be 6 soon and she has yet to come across another Bailey besides a waitress we had at a restaurant once. We have come across a couple of dogs named Bailey Dh wanted to name her Bayla but I pushed for Bailey, we knew we'd run into the dog problem. Our school is full of Sophie, Emma, Ava, Eva, Ella, and Noah. But we don't have a lot of those boys names, mostly the girls names.

Yep! At daycare we have:
Liam, Mason, William, Ethan, and Jaden. Olivia, Isabella, Ava and Madison.
That is almost half the names on your list.
There is also a Charlotte.

It's funny to me that Mason is on the boys list.
I can think of 8 Masons off the top of my head, ages 8 and under, but they are all girls. I don't know any boy Masons.

I have a son whose name has been on the top 10 I think every year of his life so far. It's a very popular name and there are always others so they are known as firstname lastinitial.
And I have a son whose name is fairly common but has been co-opted for girls and he runs into about as many girls as boys with his name. And it is such a traditionally male name. Even it's definition is male.
And I have a son who has an older name (it's a family name) that he rarely comes across among his peers. He has never had one in the same class, but usually there is another one in the school. He never finds his name on personalized merchandise. Except we did when we were in Germany. We scooped up a number of items so he could have something with his name on it like other kids. I guess it is more popular there. I have noticed it is on the upswing though.

DS13 was ALMOST named Justin LastNameRhymeswithBieber. Seriously. How wrong would that have been? My first choice forever had been Justin. DH said no. Well, he said no to everything until he suggested DS's name. We chose middle names and shook on it.
His name is common, but not terribly common. We would have named a girl the same name with a different middle name.
I grew up with the most common girl's name of my generation. Ugh. There were seven of us in eighth grade English.
I also have an ancestor who was named Nimrod. Yup. Nimrod.
