Well, the week is FINALLY here! Week one of college football. Several games are on Thursday and Friday with the bulk of the season starting on Saturday. LSU will be traveling to Houston to play the Wisconsin Badgers at Reliant Stadium in a huge match-up for both teams. The Tigers and Badgers are ranked 13th and 14th in preseason rankings so it should be quite the battle. LSU coach Les Miles still hasn't decided on a starting QB but either one is a relative newbie ~ one with one start in our bowl game and the other a true freshman. Tiger fans are nervously waiting to see if one of them can lead us to a great season. Who does your team play? Geaux Tigers!!

My two teams - West Virginia and Alabama - are playing each other. I think we all know who's going to win, but I'd be thrilled if the underdog pulled out a win.

University of Michigan will be hosting Appalachian St. Michigan isn't in the top 25, and I call BS on that. But what can you do. Go Blue!

FSU is playing Oklahoma State in Arlington, TX on Saturday, where College Game Day will be broadcasting. DH and several of his old frat buddies are all flying over for the weekend to watch. His phone has been blowing up for the last two weeks as they finalize all their plans.

Ohio State plays Navy, which is a bit of a challenge in my household, given we are a Navy family.
Believe it or not, I'm actually going to miss this game, even on television, because I'll be on the other side of the country at Disneyland, getting ready to run a half marathon there on Sunday morning! It will be the first Ohio State game I've missed in years. But, given we have already lost Braxton Miller for the season, I think it will be a depressing season.

This should be an interesting game as both QBs played for Florida State. Boom! Dallas2Dallas, baby! We don't get to go to this game, and I am so bummed. DH is at War College this year so we will have to miss it. I can not wait 'till Sat night. Gonna be a fun season, and I'm ready to watch my beloved 'Noles roll this year. Wooohoooooo!!!

Pahina722, did your DH graduate from FSU?? So cool that he is going to the game. My DH and I usually don't miss the big games, but this year, we just couldn't make this one work. We are going to make it to Tallahassee for the ND game and the florida game.

Florida plays this weekend. I am a happy camper, I love football season. BUT, I have a dilemma. I am a Gator through and through, but the traitor (my son) is at LSU. I mean, at least he stayed in the SEC, but am I supposed to learn how to cheer for another team???

Geaux Gators, maybe? I "hate" both equally. Geaux Gators. That's perfect...I have been threatening to send the traitor-er, my son, a box full of orange and blue and he says that he will send it right back. Apparently, his dad (we are divorced buy seems like we still have something in common LOL) threatened to do the same. Maybe I can mix it up and send orange and purple? Yellow and blue??

Pahina, hope your DH and his crew have fun!
As an Oklahoma State fan, I'm not thrilled about playing the National Champions in our opening game! But maybe I will be pleasantly surprised.
Either way, it's football season and that makes me happy!!
Good luck everyone!

I'm a fan by default as my alma mater doesn't have a football team. We had season tickets for several years until our son entered high school. At that point, we decided to skip a couple of years; it just figures that those couple would include a national championship!

My high school years were filled with FSU football. Back in the dark ages (pre-stadium upgrades, early Bobby Bowden days) the end zones were bleachers-think high school football. At the time, the under 18 set could buy season tickets for the end zone through McDonalds for some unbelievable cost of around $20. In the fall, this is what we did for fun...all the teens would meet at "the flagpole." There was an American flag down between the end zone bleachers and the grown up seats where all the high school kids would meet up with their friends before what ever mischief we got into-and back in those days, mischief was easy to find as alcohol and whatnot was very easy to obtain from all kinds of fraternity boys if you were a cute girl even if you were still in high school.

I'm a big fan of all Illinois teams but am very partial to Northern Illinois. Go Huskies!! They play Thursday night against Presbyterian.
What? You've never heard of either team? Northern Illinois is the team that has made it into the Top 25 several times, and played in the Orange Bowl, and gets bashed by Kirk Herbstreit because he doesn't think they should be there. He's not well-liked on campus.

Our season starts on Sunday because Tennessee is weird. We're looking forward to this season as it's the season that Butch Jones has something to prove or the UT fans will be asking for his head on a platter (they are not the most gracious nor patient fans). We'll see! GO VOLS!

Another Gamecocks house here! Sadly, we are in California which is not what you would call SEC country but we'll manage. Go Cocks! <------I know it's totally immature but I love typing that.

Texas Aggies are headed to South Carolina on Thursday -- we've got tickets, but I know we are the underdogs. I am excited to be able to visit another SEC school! We went to Auburn 2 years ago and DH has been to Alabama twice. We love being SEC!!!!!

I can't believe football season is here again! It seems like just yesterday that Oklahoma beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl! (I couldn't resist mentioning last year's Sugar Bowl one more time. ). Oklahoma plays Louisiana Tech Saturday night. BOOMER!

Ken Ozello (Bama's director of bands) was a graduate assistant with the WVU marching band my freshman year. He is remembered fondly by all the ladies that were in the band at the time--quite the handsome man LOL, but a realy nice guy as well. I just saw something on FB about the two bands playing together on Saturday--maybe the Nationa Anthem? I don't expect us to beat Alabama, but I don't think we will be quite as bad as most seem to believe. I guess we will find out Saturday.

Wooohoooooo!!! the quarterbacks aren't the only connection between the teams. Nick Saban grew up just a few miles down the road from Morgantown, and a lot of people still pull for the "local boy" (but not this weekend!).
