I have seen Shimelle's and Amy Tan's but not hers yet. She is so pretty and her kids are darling, I enjoy looking at their photos. But I had to laugh at the pictures of her after a day at the pool with perfect hair and makeup, if it was me it would be hair in a topknot and a greasy face. I am not a scrapbook blog reader so is it common now that they promote clothing and other products? I guess the bigger question should be is if I am on a spending freeze why am I looking for sneak peeks?

It is very typical of her, yes. I don't even think of her as a scrapbooker anymore. For that matter, I haven't been to her blog or IG in ages.

I think most of the skeptic bunch in the scrap world have unfollowed Dear Lizzy for the same reason: her feed reads like Vogue Kids. Perfect family, perfect mother/woman, perfect photos, perfect editing. It looks exhausting and it has barely anything to do with crafting these days. You have to really dig to find some uninteresting post relating to scrapbooking. Level on the unrelatable-o-meter: max. Paired with her monotone I-am-so-bored-can-I-go-have-my-Starbucks-break-already voice when she presents a new collection, you've got to wonder how involved she is with her SB line. It looks like barely at all. AC designs, she approves and banks the cheque. Then she goes back to posting perfect photos and influencing.

The first question is answered. So, Night Owl, let's talk about why if you're on a spending freeze, you're looking at the new lines?

It was not long after she had released her Project Life Kit. She was here on a tour to promote the kit and a coordinating SB line from American Crafts. When everyone at the event was talking about the PL kit she asked if she could take a look at one of them because she had apparently never actually seen the completed kit before it was released.

Quelle surprise... I love anecdotes like these that reveal the true nature of the industry. I wouldn't have dared admitting I hadn't seen the finished product, especially in front of fans. And, hopefully, I would have insisted on seeing the kit before starting a promo tour for it. But then again, I don't see Elizabeth K. as a very aware person anyway. Her empire relies on her projected image solely these days.

Yeah, totes looks like a random shot at a T-ball game. And not a Russell ad: "Baseball games in the summer are liiiife. Myles is in T-Ball and we are already those parents on the sidelines getting way to into the game. 😂 But I know Collin can't hide his excitement to finally have his little leaguer and Sandlot quoting buddy. You're killing me smalls! Getting involved in baseball is so good for kids! @russellathletic. "

She is most definitely of a type. I cannot imagine how exhausting it is to try to live such a carefully curated Instagrammed life. It's so very modern Stepford with cold shoulders, skinny jeans, shooties, and cocker spaniel hair.
She's probably a lovely person. My perception of her life is based solely on her public output.

I've never looked at her Instagram so I hopped over to take a peek...I had to chuckle at the picture of the "messy" (pristine, all-white) nursery/playroom with a few wooden toys carefully scattered on the floor. Complete with a caption about how no one is perfect.
My daughter's nursery currently has bottles and burp cloths on the floor, complete with an ancient, chewed-up travel mattress next to the bassinet so I can camp out, along with a perpetually stinky diaper genie and a nice plastic Fisher Price jungle gym. #blessed #sloblife

So my question is, who is taking these pictures? Does she walk around with a personal photographer all day?
I've thought this about several popular bloggers. They aren't posting selfies!

I like looking at her blog just for the photos - I think her kids are really cute, and I like getting ideas for when I take pictures. I think she stages things well, and it makes me think more thoughtfully of what's in the background, etc. when I take photos - when I can be bothered to take better photos than just the random around-the-house photos I usually take, that is.
I don't for a minute think that it's "real life", but that doesn't matter to me. I take it for what it is - contrived/shallow/fake/whatever you want to call it (people I work with would call it "curated" to put a good spin on it, lol), but pretty.
I just don't bother reading what she writes, because I don't want to hear sales pitches and I don't really care about her life, I just like the photography and getting ideas.
I do like her scrapbook stuff for the most part, although it is quite repetitive. I agree that she's really just a name on the brand, but I don't care, I just think of it as a way for AC to differentiate it's different lines.

You mean pix like this? Yeah, totes looks like a random shot at a T-ball game. No, no, you misunderstood! She only tagged Russell Athletics in that post because she genuinely was thankful to have one of their caps on hand the one day she was too busy being a mother to put on makeup before going to one of the kids' games. Oh wait. Kerri W A lot of these bloggers earn enough to be able to afford to hire one of their friends as a part-time (or full-time even) assistant most of the time. Some of them are powerhouse couples even if only one spouse is a social media celebrity while the other one works behind the scenes to take the photos and help maintain the blog/YouTube/social media accounts. You'll often see them go as a romantic couple or duo of friends to conventions and workshops. You don't even need to be some major social media celebrity to be able to afford having both your significant other and a close friend working for you. Sponsored posts can very quickly become a means of earning a living... #InfluencerBusiness ETA: don't be fooled. Major brands don't only pay for sponsored posts *coughadscough* but also for gifts which often include high end material to make even prettier posts. They do not care that the bloggers will also use that expensive camera and big money zoom to make photos for other sponsors as well. The purpose is to influence the influencer (there's no chance they'll stray and ever be honest about the business ties linking them to said brand or consider stop being employed by them for moral reasons if you buy them expensive holidays, Cartier bracelets and enviable Canon Eos equipment) and to make sure the influencer is also as equipped and qualified as possible to influence their followers.

I don't read blogs anymore but recently I checked her blog for some inspiration. I was so confused because I didn't see any scrapbooking. I got about four or five posts in and decided that wasn't the kind of blog I wanted to spend any time looking at. So what kind of blog is it now? What is it called? Lifestyle?

I know this is not fair, but I secretly judge all of the LDS mom bloggers like Dear Lizzy. I know taking care of a family is a huge responsibility, but for the working moms out there (not that I am one, but I will be in the future), life is a lot tougher, I have to say.
I know it's a choice people make, but the examples of family life you often see on IG or in blogs are stay-at-home moms who can take great pictures throughout the day, work on projects, etc. If you followed me throughout the day, I'd be at the office most of the time.
All my photos are pretty much with terrible lighting because it's either before or after work.
I guess my point is: It's not easy to find "inspirational" people to relate to these days online.

IMO taking a good kid photo is down to 90% having a really nice camera/lenses, 9% taking hundreds of shots to get a good one, and 1% total luck. My husband is no pro but has no problem getting really fantastic shots of our kids that put the photos of US as kids (developed in a lab so you didn't know they were crappy until you paid for them, lol!) to shame. Especially if you don't look at all the ones we deleted. Imagine how many she deletes! Whoever said it looks exhausting is spot-on, but if it's her job... well what job isn't exhausting? There are lots of worse jobs than hers, right?

I'd consider her to be a work-at-home mom. More power to her if she can make money while staying home with her kids - I would do that in a heartbeat. I used to work from home and I loved every minute of it - but now I work outside of the home and I really miss those days that I was home with my son and had the flexibility to work around his schedule. I sometimes think of quitting my job to freelance so that I can be home again. It doesn't seem like she has a bad gig at all.

I'm still laughing at "'cocker spaniel hair". Thanks, Lisacharlotte. I can't take credit for the expression but it's been so long since i first read it i can't remember who wrote it first. It's a look that irks me. I blame Jennifer Aniston for the stupid "beachy waves" that turned into the ubiquitous cocker spaniel hair hanging lanky on either side of the face. Considering her contributing to the most iconic hairstyle of the 1990's the boring hair and same damn LBD in every photo irritate the hell out of me. Not a rational reaction but mine none the less.

All my photos are pretty much with terrible lighting because it's either before or after work. I guess my point is: It's not easy to find "inspirational" people to relate to these days online. This gets me down at times too. I'd love to be a stay-at-home mum, and I guess some part of me always hoped there would be a period where that's what I would do. But that's just not how things have worked out. Instead, I'm working part-time, studying part-time, taking care of a toddler (and a fiancé!) full time and currently also growing a new baby. My dance card is very very full. So when I look at these blogs and Instagram feeds I have to admit that I do get pretty envious of the time they get to spend doing the things that I would love to be doing. But I do try to remind myself that I would probably be able to do all of those things as well if I had none of the commitments that I have.

I should add though that when I did meet her, she really did seem like a genuinely lovely person. And although I'm sure that a lot of her photos are staged and styled (and likely she wouldn't deny it), to me she really just seemed like one of those women who just effortlessly have it together.

I remember when she was a Garden Girl at Two Peas. She must have had it in her contract that she would never, ever, ever post anything on the message board, or have anything to do with the website, except to post an very occasional project video. I was quickly turned off by them when every video was: "and now I am using the thickers from my Bumble Bee line. I am adding washi from my Candy Cane line. I just love the chip board stickers from my Dripping with sunshine line." I have never heard anyone else that has their own line do that. (those lines are made up for the purpose of my post)

So i had to go watch those Dear Lizzy videos. Woo, they are not exactly polished. I'm not sure how she got a scrapping line because I didn't think her scrapping was that innovative. She's another of those tentative scrappers that can't seem to put any confidence into her actions. "And now I'm half heartedly dabbing some paint here and there. Oh, now i've edited out the part where i had to add more paint because I couldn't commit the first time."
I believe she was a guest garden girl for the mood board series they did in 2013. I didn't get the impression she was a regular, just hawking her wares (Lucky Charm).
