I have a lot of old 9x9 layouts that I want to transistor to my new 8.5x11 books. It is harder than I thought to move from square to rectangle!
Have you you ever transitioned sizes? What did you do?

No... I started years ago with the 8.5 X 11.. but once I started 12x12 I never went back.

Sorry, no. I keep all sizes in my 12x12 albums. I wish I stuck with 8.5x 11 though. I wouldn't worry about 9x9 albums as they are a convenient size.
I've decided I want to do my scenery album in 8.5x11, however I've already done a few layouts in 12x12. I'll pull them and see how difficult it'll be to transition them down and decide then whether to leave them or redo them.

LOL. I'm probably no help. I use three different sizes, depending on what I'm scrapping.
I use 12x12 for large vacations, and my kids' high school school albums.
I use 8.5x11 for most of my scrapbooking. The kids' school albums from pre-k to 8th grade. All my everyday types of layouts.
I use 8x8 for December Daily, when I do it. It's also the size I choose if I am going to make a gift album.

Are you redoing the 9x9 layouts? Or trying to fit them into the 11x8.5? I would probably try to shave .5 inch off the sides and add borders to get them to the size I wanted.

That's what I would do, then either put a 2" strip of coordinating pp at the bottom of each page, or split that strip in half (or some other proportion) and put some at the top and some at the bottom

The completed 12x12 albums I am going to leave alone. I do wish I had started with 8.5 x 11. Starting now I am going to start using 8.5 x 11. They so so much easier to store and handle.

Also, although my kids have no problem taking them off the shelf and leafing through them, DH is too afraid to hurt them, so he never looks at them. The digi books & smaller albums, he'll pull out without fear though.

I started out 8.5x11. Then I did mostly 12x12 for about 5 years, and I converted some f my 8.5x11 layouts by adding them to 12x12 paper and doing something with the border/edge. This was before Ali Edwards taught us about albums with all different size layouts.
I switched back to 8.5x11 about 10 years ago but I still scrap some special albums 12x12- I did my Germany/Austria trip in 12x12 and my 3 Air Force albums. But for the most part I only scrap 8.5x11 the past decade or so.
Like others, I wish I had only done 8.5x11 just for ease of storage and looking at completed albums and the ability to finish pages faster with less real estate.

Mat the layout you have done on an 8.5x11 piece of paper to have an inch at the top and bottom and take a quarter inch off each side to fit 8.5 x 11. If you place the 9x9 layout directly on the 8.5 inch wide paper you will easily be able to turn it over and cut off the quarter inch from each side.

I've always done 12x12 and right now that works for me since I'm playing catch up on some really old pictures and I'm trying for 4-6 per page. I love layering and embellishments but my problem with that size is that when I use fewer photos it's too hard to fill in all the empty space. Plus I always feel I need to go bigger on the decor to go with the larger page. I'm going to try 8 1/2 x 11 pages in the near future. I won't need the extra real estate for a ton of photos and I can scale down the layering and embellishments.

I transitioned from 8.5x11 to 12x12. I used a big event (the birth of my son) to transition, I kept the old 8.5x11 albums as is, and I haven't looked back! I use the same style of album though just to be more consistant.

I started with 12x12 and then switched to 8.5x11 after a couple of years. I stuck to that for several years and then got back into 12x12 for family albums and I love it. 12x12 layouts come together very quickly for me. My kids' albums are 8.5x11 and I'm still scrapping that size for them. For me it's not a matter of scrapping squares or rectangles. My problem with 8.5x11 is that I feel limited by the smaller space and feel like 4x6 pictures are too big but I don't want to use very small pictures. I'm ok with 4x4 or 3x3 but any smaller than that and in a few years I'll need a magnifying glass to see them. I also scrap 8x8 sometimes for a travel or vacation album. I've never redone or altered any layouts to switch sizes.

I have scrapped a variety of sizes. I mainly scap 12x12 now. Started with 8.5x11 and have done several mini albums in 8x8. I have a real hode-podge of albums on my shelves.

I have always made 8 1/2 x11 and 12x12. I am redoing a lot of my old lo's(glue fell apart and some I don't like) from my kids early ages, so I have been using the 8 1/2x11 size for those. I love 12x12,and those for our family albums, but those albums are so heavy and bulky.
