I have a Spellbinders Platinum 6. I just love it. Considering I've had it for less than a month, I need to stop buying stamps and matching dies. Those suckers are addictive!
I tried googling for answers but I suck at Google. Can I use the Sizzix cutting pads with my machine? The purple ones are so me and I won't constantly lose them amongst all my die cutting mess. Also, can I use the Sizzix magnetic base? I'm going to ignore the magnets and pacemaker warning. No one tell my husband. I promise I won't hug it if it works.
Now, for the big one. Does anyone know how to get the Tim Holtz Alterations dies to work with the Spellbinders Platinum?
Thank you you for your help, Peas!

no idea on the questions as I have an Epic 6 I need to stop buying stamps and matching dies. Those suckers are addictive! Are you using them? Do they bring you joy? Can you afford them? If you can answer yes to all of those, then ditch the guilt and enjoy them

Unless SB makes a magnetic platform, your pacemaker is safe, the Sizzix platform is 6 1/8" wide. Another thing to research is if Provocraft make a magnetic platform. I had heard there was one for the Cuttlebug (also a 6" width) but that was after I had picked up my Vagabond. Not sure which TH dies you are asking about. The thick ones? How deep is your base platform? Is it removable? To cut with the TH thicker dies with my Cuttlebug, I used to make the "sandwich" with a cutting plate, then pp or cs, then the thick die, and finally another cutting plate. No base platform. The thin ones--wafer thin dies? I got an aluminum shim for the cuttlebug that helped with thin dies there and does as well in the Vagabond. Also, the magnetic cutting platform is a little thicker than the basic platform, so the vagabond now has a plastic shim to use with the standard one and wafer thin dies. Maybe there is one available from SB too: they have some pretty thin dies. Hope you find a way to get the most out of your new toy, lilacgal !

Thanks for your help, y'all! grammadee , I tried finding a picture of the TH die I was talking about. Like I said before, my Google abilities stink. It's an alphabet that's all one piece mounted on a plastic base with foam. It looks like the Sizzix platforms have...pages? (for lack of a better term) that you can open to remove enough thickness to let it pass through. If I remove one of the cutting plates, it's too thin to cut. If I use both of the cutting plates, it's too thick. I need to figure out a shim or something to increase the thickness enough I believe. I bought it at Tuesday Morning so I'm not out a lot of money if I can't get it to work. I have half a mind to peel the plastic base off and use it like that. It's stuck rather well and I worry about adhesive residue left behind sticking to everything. Who knows...I'll figure it out eventually. dasmith2 , I've looked at that link before. Thank you though. I wish I could find something like that on the Sizzix site to help with using their dies with other machines! linda , oh yes, I'm using the. And loving them! Sooooo much quicker than my Cameo. I can afford them...mostly. Lol I have had to step away from Simon Says Stamp more than a few times because I don't want to get to the point I can't afford bills because I bought too many dies and stamps. I'm being good. It's just so much fun! I can't wait until Christmas. Oh! I just thought of something. I have some VISA gift cards from students. I wonder if I could use that at SSS...hmmm.... 😃

I have a Big Shot. I bought the magnetic base a little while back and it's disappointing. It's not a solid magnet sheet, it's got little round magnets set in the plastic. All those magnets have different poles, and when you put your dies down, they twitch and dance and won't necessarily stay where you want. You have to shift them around all over until they catch right. The first 3 or 4 times I ran a die through I was thrilled until I tried running smaller ones through on stamped images, and I couldn't just put down my stamped cardstock in the position/direction I wanted. Personally I think washi tape or that medical tape Jen McGuire uses are way more useful, and goodness knows I'll never run out of washi.

While I'm not familiar with the Spellbinders machine, your Tim Holtz die sounds like a Sizzix Sizzlits Decorative Strip Alpha (available in various fonts, such as www.sizzix.com/657827/sizzix-sizzlits-decorative-strip-alphabet-die-inside-out). Best wishes...

A thought occurred to me that my dad may have some sheets of metal laying around his workshop I could use as a shim. Hmmm....I'm off to Virginia tomorrow for a visit. I'll need to check with him.

I'm wondering - Sizzix makes a special platform for the big shot for those decorative strip dies -here's an Amazon link www.amazon.com/Sizzix-BIGkick-Extended-Spacer-Platform/dp/B001BDK17M but I would look elsewhere because I know I paid less than $10 for mine. With this platform, you use one cutting plate under the die and one on top and it's perfect in a big shot. I can't say for certain, because I don't have your machine, since the steel-rule sandwich is the same for both machines, I would think it would work the same in yours. You can also get special cutting plates the same size, but i never used them, the regular ones were fine.
