Are these essentially the same? Same ring configuration (the newer handbooks, anyway)? Or are there differences? I would rather deal with AE than SC.

I'm curious. Do you have a link? I've heard of neither. Just albums.

Are the SC Handbooks even available anymore? I know they have some "Art Albums" on their website. I'd hazard a guess that they will be manufactured in the same place so likely to be quite similar. I know the AE Storybooks have got really great reviews so far. Good quality, nice thick spine...

They use the same page protectors so they must have the same ring configuration. They are also very likely manufactured in the same place since that's the deal with Inked Brands (they take on brands to expand their business with established partners abroad and do logistics from their US warehouse to lower costs). Also, if you deal with AE, you deal with the same folks who run SC anyway. But you will make a difference in terms of which brand you support (and you can always try to address Ali directly on social media should you run into a pickle that the stubborn Inked Brands CS can't seem to solve). I didn't think AE's new Storybook albums looked *that* great quality-wise but I'm a difficult judge to sway when it comes to albums.

I'd be hesitant about buying either one...my DD album from Ali fell apart last year, before I was even done putting it together . The metal part is attached to the cover in 2 places, and one of them detached. So the whole thing was just swinging around inside the cover. I hadn't dropped it or let it get manhandled by kids or anything...just a serious quality control issue going on. Someone else on the board had the same problem. I like the colors and the ring configuration, but I'm sure they're going with a cheap manufacturer on these, and then charging even more than other companies. Not worth the aggravation!

I had the same issue and started a conversation with a photo of the issue and they immediately mailed me out another one that was fine. I'm not saying it isn't frustrating, but at least I know if they "work for Ali", then it'll be made right.

In hindsight that's what I should have done too...I "fixed" it with a ton of Aleene's tacky glue, but who knows if that will last. Probably not. I'm glad they made it right for you! Of course not having it happen at all would've been ideal!

I'm just surprised Ali called them "storybooks." I know she's all about story, but Echo Park already has an established line of albums and pocket page supplies called "My Storybook." With Ali's penchant for trademarking every phrase she utters, I can't believe she didn't research this and come up with a more original name. Although this wouldn't be the first time she's capitalized on someone else's idea.

Thanks, guys. Believe me, I have been on the receiving end of manufacturing issues with both AE and SC, but I actually haven't had a problem with AE handbook-sized albums (and I ordered several extras the last two years). I love the size and am willing to take the chance since at least so far (unlike SC) when I have a manufacturing issue, AE always replaces the item.
Well, that, and as much as I hate to admit it, I vastly prefer the Handbook/Storybook type albums to the similar-sized albums from other manufacturers.

I have 2 extra 6x8 albums I got at Tuesday Morning that I am planning to return. Changed my mind about the size. They are $5.99 each, I'll sell instead of returning if you have any interest.

Are they wider spines? I thought one of them was really sought after because it holds more pages. Maybe that's compared to the other stuff on the market. It's just something that stuck in my head.
I've considered 9x12. I know trying to buy albums in that size is a losing proposition. However, i think before SC came out with that size people were just cutting down a 12x12 and covering the edge. I would have no problem trying that. Plus, i cut up my page protectors all the time to make configurations i want.

Ali has a video with the album walk through. Personally, I prefer BH's or Simple Stories 6x8 albums. They only have 2 holes and it makes it so much easier to buy page protectors from an array of manufacturers. I've found that the AE and SC page protectors can cost twice as much as BH's or SS. And the AE/SC pages are much thinner and less sturdy. But if you do go for the AE/SC album, the 6 hole punches that are sold for planners work perfectly.

I love SS albums, but the thing that makes me buy SC/AE are the thicker spines. SS albums are always bulging by the time I'm done with my project. Their xmas album last year had a bigger spine, which gave me hope for future regular albums with thicker spines from them. In the mean time, I'll probably use SC/AE when I need more. I do pick up some on scrapbooksteals, but those have been the SC 4-ring albums.

SC/AE do have the wider spines which is useful. Mind you, I haven't bought any of the newer ones - I still have a couple of the old 4 ring SC configuration to use up!
