We were at the pool today, like many summer days for many years.
Today my contact ripped while at the pool. I could see out of one eye and it would have sucked to drive. Thankfully my newly 16 year old son was with me and he drove home (paranoid because he didn't have his wallet since we were at the pool).
It made me think what I would have done had he not been with me.

Hot car is not a good place to leave a pair of glasses. I just generally have a pair in my purse.

I keep a pair of readers in the car, but not a pair of regular glasses. My prescription isn't terribly strong. I would be able to drive home.

I keep an old, emergency pair in my car for that very reason I do have an old pair. Probably 12 years old. They were my go to glasses for a decade until I got my new ones a year or two ago. I could put those in there. They aren't perfect, but I could pass the drive test with them so they would work.

No, but I need to start. My distance vision is getting terrible. I can't see very far without glasses, so if mine get lost or broken while I'm out and about by myself, I'll be screwed.

Yes. I keep an older pair in my car because I would be screwed if something happened to one of my contacts while out.... I can't even read the E on the chart without glasses so preetttyyyy sure I shouldn't be driving without them 😂

I used to until I got a new car 2 years ago and took them out of the car and forgot to put them back in the new one. I lost my glasses that I just got last year and had to go get new ones because I couldn't find my spare. So yeah, I will be getting another pair again soon ( in January 1 when I can get another pair per my insurance) and will hope to goodness I can find one of the other 2 in the house in the meantime so I will have a spare again!
Thankfully I can drive (though not really legally whoops) without my glasses and was able to get an appt a few days later and got my glasses that very day at Lenscrafters.

I keep a pair of prescription sunglasses in the car (there is a place to store them built into the roof). If I need them, I have them

I do. Just be sure that any glasses you keep in the car have metal hinges. The plastic hinges melt!!
ETA: since my lens implants I only need readers and those are the ones that melted.

I should because one day at the pool my glasses broke and I couldn't wear them to drive home! I only wear glasses and never contacts. Having a backup pair would have helped me a lot that day, I should get a cheapie pair from the eye doctor to keep for emergencies.

They are cheaper quality than the $500 regular glasses from my eye doctor (I would hope so, anyway! LOL) but they certainly serve their purpose and I see fine out of them when I need them.

I was also going to suggest a pair from zenni. They start at 6.95 so if they end up melting, you're not out much.

No but I guess it's a good idea because I couldn't drive if something happened to my glasses. Can't afford to buy a spare though (spent over $1400 on my current pair) - it'll have to wait til I replace my current progressive lenses.

I have a RX pair of sunglasses in my glove box that I got when trying to use up my FSA years ago. Would be a bit dim at night in that type of emergency but they'd do the job.

Yes, I have a spare pair in the glove compartment of my car. At the last minute, I took them out and packed them in my suitcase for vacation. Good thing, because I lost my glasses on vacation!

I always have at least 1regular & 1 prescription sunglasses with me. So long as it's not dark I'm ok.
If I go far away I take a spare pair -
DD learned this lesson last year when she had her glasses washed away in the ocean 2 hours away down the shore & I had to ride down to bring her a spare pair

I really should! If anything happened to my glasses I would not be able to drive.
Many times I do have more than one pair of glasses with me, because I tend to switch from one pair to another depending on what I am doing and where I am, but if I was ever left with no glasses I would have to call someone else to come and get me from wherever I was.
So leaving my least favorite pair in the car would probably not be a bad idea.

I keep an extra pair in the car, and I try to remember to bring an extra pair in my pool bag because I usually have a book or magazine. I don't wear Rx glasses, only readers. I have a pair on my bedside table, in the bathroom for makeup and in the den.

I got a very cheap pair from Zenni once and kept them in my car. They lasted like a month before they got completely ruined by the heat. Learned my lesson.

I have a pair of glasses in my car and a cheap plastic pair of Zenni sunglasses. They've been in there for a long time and I've never had an issue with them being ruined. Maybe some people live in a hotter climate that wouldn't make that a good idea. I live in the south central part of the US, it gets hot in the summer here, but not like Arizona hot.
