For so many years I've been living vicariously through youtube videos envious of scrap/craft rooms. We recently purchased a new house and I'm going to get my own room that has lots of natural light and hardwood floors! I have four IKEA Expedit 4X4 cubby things and about ten of the jetmax cubes. I have a lot of stuff and I've already purged. How would you set it up? What is your favorite organizational tool or set up. We haven't moved yet but if I can strategically pack things that would be AWESOME! TIA!

I don't like to face a wall, and I like to change sides of the desk I'm standing on depending on the light (shadows if it's night time and I'm blocking the light fixture)... So maybe a wall of cubes and the desk/table in the middle of the room?

I don't like to face a wall, and I like to change sides of the desk I'm standing on depending on the light (shadows if it's night time and I'm blocking the light fixture)... So maybe a wall of cubes and the desk/table in the middle of the room? That's what I have, and it's perfect for me. On one wall, I have three IKEA 8 cube units sitting horizontally, tucked under the eaves in my attic scrap space, and I can fit four Sterilite 3-drawer units on top of each one. On my other wall, I used 6 Jetmax cubes and some pine boards to "construct" a wall unit that's 2 cubes high and 10 feet long. (Like we used to do in college with milk crates and boards) My craft table, a sturdy old kitchen table, sits in the middle. And I think a cart is a really nice thing to have if you have the floor space. I don't have one yet, but I think about getting one. Congratulations on your new house!

I am so happy with the Alex units I have. I've got 3- the tall narrow one, the wide low one on wheels, and the short narrow one that holds up one end of my desk. The drawers are big enough to fit most things but not so deep things get lost. Highly recommend!

How exciting!!!!!!!!!!!! I have one wall with a 25 cube kallax and one wall with a long set of cubes only 2 high (so I can use the tops as flat surface for things) and then another wall with 2 ikea tables with cricut, laptop and printer and a peg board, And the last wall is my desk, which in my room faces out of the room and towards the family room (L shaped finished basement divided into two rooms). I am still trying to organize too. My cubes are organized by category, so like all adhesives in a cube, all stamps/ink in one. All paint/supplies in one, all Zutter stuff in one, etc.
I also don't like facing the wall and in my old scrap room I had my desk on a wall but sat behind it facing out.
Have fun!!

I like those Alex units and can see organizing embellishments by category in them...

Congratulations! I use a kitchen table too. I would love to have it in the middle of the room too, but I have a couch in there that I need to keep. I want to get rid of it and put more bookshelves on that wall. I will have to get rid of some family members 1st. I love looking out my big window, though.

How fun, congrats on the new place!
My advice would be take your time setting up. Get in & set up using what you have then go from there. When I first moved I just used an old converted computer cabinet for storage, until I figured out that I wanted more openness, so I ended up with a wall cabinet that works well.
Some things to think about... sit or stand? I prefer to stand and move about, so I use a kitchen cart on wheels as my desk. I had it a little bit too loaded, so recently my SO reinforced with new casters and it is a dream.
Light... I originally faced so I could look out the window to the side, but it made more sense to move things around and now the window is behind me. I like all the natural light, and still can look out if I want to.
I have a couch (pull out doubles as a guestroom) and tv in my room. Sometimes I just wanna hang out and organize or put things away, so having a comfortable space is nice.
Consider if you like having things in the open (shelves, peg board, etc) or being able to close up (closet, cabinets, drawers). I like to be able to put things away, so closet, cabinet and drawers for me.
Electrical socket...make sure u set up to be able to plug in ur computer, machines, chargers, etc.
I also really love my Alex drawer, the wider, low one. Stores a lot of stuff.
have fun setting up!

I thought I knew how I would set up my scrapping room before I moved in, but I ended up having to totally revise everything once we actually started unpacking in our new home. It didn't quite fit or work out the way I thought it would.
I wish I had kept my papers better organized when I packed them. That has been horrible to sort out. I'm still going through and reorganizing, since I had to just start getting everything out of the boxes fast (we had company coming). My room and my stash are fairly usable, but I still have more organizing to do. Some papers are organized, some not. Same is true for embellishments.
Good luck on your move, and congrats! May it all go smoothly!

New scrap rooms are so fun! When I packed up to move, I tried to keep as many like things together as possible so I wouldn't have quite so many random boxes of miscellaneous stuff. Try to be as specific as possible when you mark the boxes, and mark them on more than one side so when things are stacked up you can see from the side what's in which box.
I'm still working on organizing my space but I want to have specific zones for various tasks. Think about how you work and what kinds of things you do and that will help you determine what should go where. Keep your most used items closest to where you will actually work. I have an area for sewing, my computers and cutter are on my desk (I don't actually scrap at my desk). I have all of my stamping stuff together, patterned paper and cardstock is together, and themed stuff that I use a lot is sorted into Iris bins on a shelf in a closet near my work tables. Dies are in drawers together, embossing folders are in another drawer, mixed media stuff is all together in a drawer, acrylic paint is in a drawer. Scrap cardstock is organized by color in Sterilite drawers under my desk where I'll think to use them. Pinterest is your friend, there are tons of craft organization ideas on there.
Good luck and have fun setting up your new space!

I've gone by the house several times and have been able to go in to get the lay of the land. My craft room is a converted single car garage so it is completely finished and is connected to the guest room by french doors. Another wall has a door that leads outside. My husband is all excited because my parents can come and stay and he thinks my dad can use my craft room for a little getaway. UM NO! I love the idea of a rolling table in the middle of the room that I can roll out of the way for him to hand out...but my husband gets his own little suite complete with a bathroom and closet. Where does he get off volunteering MY room? JK:) Oh this house is unbelievable. It is truly my dream home. I have spent about 6 hours trying to pack and organize just that room. Its only 104 degrees in my garage so at least I am losing weight:)

I just finished my craft room last month. It measures 12x15, so it's similar in space to yours I think. I spent about a year designing it, tweaking the design, then it took 6 weeks for the build, and then it took about 8 weeks to load it and get it all organized. It's a process, but it can be so gratifying. I think it's very important to think about how YOU work and what you reach for the most often. Have fun - sounds like a great space!! Video of my room

I have two ladder shelves that house a ton of paper, tools, and punches. I have two more in the family room that hold my albums. I also have a six piece credenza and six tiered Clip it Up for storage. Floating shelves hold many of my punches.

Congrats on your new home and your new playroom!
My advice would be to organize the way you scrap. Keep things together that you use together. Make your goto supplies easy to find. If you like the storage units you have, pack them up the same way they are now. If you can move drawers and cubbies with their contents intact, do it, so that you will be able to locate your stuff easily.
A rolling table or kitchen island sounds like a cool idea. I have a rolling cart for diecutting tools and dies and embossing folders. It never rolls anywhere in this small space, (unless I need to search for some tiny diecut behind it LOL) but it COULD!

pennyscraps , I just watched your video. Love your room! Those gray cabinets are GORGEOUS! Thanks so much, but they are actually Benjamin Moore Hale Navy. Sometimes they don't show as navy so much depending on the light.
