When I first started scrapbooking. I read many scrapbook forums where people raved over the atg gun. I wanted to make sure I bought some decent adhesive.it was expensive but I wanted to get a decent adhesive. Like you pay for you get. I was expecting it to be top notch . So I bought one and thought I was good to go but to my surprise I was disappointed. Too me it was way too big and klunky also what is eventually a good thing wasn't for me. it stuck done instantly with no time to reposition. I'm good for permanent but I need a minute or two to reposition before its permanent. I'm forever needing to reposition things. That was very frustrating. I ruined a lot of paper from that dang thing. I ended up donating it to a silent auction at a scrapbooking event. There must be a lot of good scrapers that get it down right the first time. Unfortunately I'm not one them. I envy those guys.

I love my atg....but the last 3x rolls I have, have made me go back to my glueglider pro and double sided tape.
The rolls, roll back onto themselves and wind around the roller. I sat and watched and watched yet more youtube videos on how to thread faulty tape, rethread the machine, hubby looked at it, a girlfriend tried to no success. At $22 for a twin pack, it makes me soooo fraustrated - and reluctant to buy another pack to have that stuff up on me.
I'm sorry you didn't like the atg....when it co-operates with you, it is the best thing ever. When it doesn't co-operate with you, it sucks. big time.

That's too bad it didn't work for you. The larger size did take some getting used to but I love mine and have been using it for years now. I guess I don't have too much of a problem with getting things down the first time. I usually move pictures around until I like the position and then make a couple of marks with a pencil or use my T square ruler if I'm being really careful.
I hope you find a good replacement.

I like the atg because it's a very frugal form of adhesive. I have yet to find anything else that measures in YARDS, not feet in the package. For less than $10 (using a coupon) I get two 36 yard rolls. So while I do have some frustrations (it being too permanent, rolls reversing midway through, size) I will put up with a lot of inconvenience for the value.

I was interested in the ATG but was worried about the size - both for using and storing. I used to use the Tombow tape but had trouble with refills getting stuck so switched to the glue glider pro which I like a lot.

The good thing about the ATG is it's hard to lose I wish they made a mini one for sticking down smaller stuff... It was intimidating at first but it grows on you, at least it did for me.

That's why I haven't tried ATG. It makes me think of a giant packing tape roll, and I don't need that in my scraproom. I love my old-school Dotto adhesive that lets me reposition as often as I need, which is usually a lot.

I don't like the Acid Free Scotch refill, it stinks and gives me a headache. I used the General Purpose Scotch refill until I joined several tape shares from Tape Depot (I think) on my other scrapbooking message board.
I love the off brand, doesn't stink AND is more forgiving. You can just lay it down and do NOT press down and move around a bit.
I have two ATGs because I wanted a backup, my DH sometimes borrows it even though it is very PINK. He loves it but doesn't always return it to the right spot.
It works best to have an extra empty spool on TOP of the filled spool. Makes the tape travel right on the edge. I've had a couple that "tried" to wind off wrong but I fixed them quickly. Both the Scotch brand and off brand will sometimes do this. I just can't buy the Scotch brand because of the smell but I'm very happy with the off brand refills.
I've never found anything else that works as well and does NOT fall off down the road. I use nothing but my ATG and Aleenes Acid Free glue and the ScraPerfect lid.

I love mine as well but I hate the off brand refills. They never work right & some are backwards & just a waste of money. It is big and bulky but it lasts a long time.

I've never taken to the ATG either. I found them at Hancock Fabrics for an absolute bargain and even went clear across town for some of the refills (I think the 2 packs were something like $2.50 a box). They are all sitting in my hall closet waiting for inspiration to get them used...or to age out of usefulness and end up in the trash. I prefer smaller rollers and searched for years for the perfect adhesive. I really liked snake tape, but they changed their brand name and went from throw-away dispensers to a refillable version...the rebranding must have ruined them because they stopped carrying the refills and eventually didn't exist at all anymore. I don't like buying containers to throw away, I'd prefer a cartridge. When they disappeared, I just dealt with what I had and ended up grabbing the Tombow Stamp Runner during a 50% off sale at Paper Issues. I LOVED it! But then the refills weren't easy to find...eventually I learned that Hobby Lobby carried them and every time I went, if I didn't have another use for my coupon, I'd grab a package of refills to add to my stash. Then a few months back, I walked into the store to find them on clearance and bought them and almost every hobby lobby in town out of them. I thought that they were just not going to carry them anymore, but alas, I found out that Tombow discontinued the stamp runner altogether and was crushed. About 2 months later, Jennifer McGuire posted about a tape that isn't stocked much in the states (Simon Says carries it for way too much money, though) and bought one from overseas through Amazon. It is a great price and one refill is 3x the length of the stamp runner in the same footprint. I am now desperately trying to work my way through my Tombow refills because I actually like the Kokuyo Dot Liner Long better (mostly because the dot liner is blue and the stamp runner is pink...but I find the dot runner to apply to photos easier and requires less effort to apply). Who knew that the adventure to finding an adhesive that I loved would be so difficult?!

Unfortunately, tried it. It worked for a while, but then straight back to acting up and frankly, p***ing me off, lol. Thank you though for taking the time to post the link, appreciate it. I will, however, try again when I feel a bit more patient, and know I will not get high blood pressure, hot under the collar, and stressed when attempting yet again to rethread the tape. SaveSave

You can just lay it down and do NOT press down and move around a bit. ^^^ this is what I do, too- I only use a TINY bit on the back of paper (like, 1/2 inch tiny) so it will just BARELY hold the papers while I'm still deciding where I want the pieces... once I get them where I want, I'll use small bits an inch or so in from the edge of the pieces, and only press LIGHTLY. I've seen a lot of videos where people run the adhesive all around every edge of every piece of paper, but it's not really necessary, since the pages are going to be inside a page protector anyway-- this make it last longer, as well-- and I try to pick it up at M's with a coupon. (I don't bother with the acid-free one, and have never had any issues with it.) I use pretty small pieces and only press lightly so I can still move the paper if I need to straighten an edge out, but if the paper tears a bit, the rip will be in far enough from the edge of the paper it's covering so that hopefully you won't see it. I will also use my UnDo adhesive-remover stuff if I need to. And for me, personally, the ATG gun isn't too big: as big as it is, I can still lose it on my crafting table, lol!!
