All the former lil Frozen Peas out there put your hands in the air and say "Yeah!" I thought it'd be a good idea to start a scrap and overall crafting accountability thread for those of us who've thawed but feel they would benefit from having a support group. This is not about making anyone feel like they've sinned or done wrong about any spending. This isn't some exclusive group for those who've done a freeze on here before either. It's really aimed at those of us who've enjoyed realising that there needs to and can be a better way to spend going forward and want to keep themselves in check while the Christmas lines and December Daily products flood the market. Come in, make yourself comfy, vent about your spending frustrations, failures and delight in your successes, smart purchases and more.   |

Yay, I won't be all by myself in here.  mikklynn I agree. I don't want to find myself buying left and right when the new lines hit the stores (very soon). And then before you know, it'll be the 1st of September and the pre-orders for DD begin. Oh my! I need to keep reminding myself to take a couple steps back, look at my (albeit small) stash, keep my actual scrap needs in mind and spend accordingly. |

I did GREAT during the freeze, then got a Big Shot for an amazing price on Amazon. I almost returned it, telling my husband that it costs too much to have one. My husband talked me out of returning it, saying $55 is not too expensive....little did he know that I was actually talking about all the cute must-haves that go along with finally having a manual die cut machine 😂 I couldn't resist, esp with all the July 4th and Christmas in July sales and birthday discount codes from every.freaking.website. I'm trying to be good about not buying things I won't use more than a few times since I have an underused Cameo. Gotta stay away from all those Jennifer McGuire videos. I will try to be good with you and not have anymore crazy splurges....*fingers crossed*. Hoping I can hold off til Black Friday at least.

I've spent plenty in the last 2 months ($100 or so, a lot for me!) And I need to be frozen for a while. I think the only thing I can afford this fall is the new Steven Duncan line. Then I'm really going to try to stay frozen till Christmas. I know this isn't a freeze thread, but it is an accountability thread, so there you go. |

I'm joining this thread. I love having a place to talk about scrapbook spending and accountability.
I am in a place, stash-wise, where I have enough.
Doesn't mean that I won't buy more, but I would rather limit myself to layout specific purchases.

Great idea! I'm still mostly on a freeze but do need some consumables for Christmas cards. Great to have some accountability - I still have a lot of supplies I want to use up rather than buying indiscriminately.

More familiar faces, yay!  I'm debating placing an order with a French scrapbook and craft store that has heavily reduced all the recent collections. There's still quite a bit of Hazelwood, Magnolia Jane, Chasing Dreams, Oasis, etc. at 70% off left. I have my eye on the WRMK candy box punch board as well (also 70% off). I don't want to rush into it. I need to have dinner first, put on some Miles Davis, take out my mini stash, decide whether I can find enough I really like and that would work with my current stash. If some heavily marked down pretty things sell out by then, so be it. I refuse to purchase under pressure. Does 6,5€ (approx. US$7.4) sound like a good deal for a WRMK box punch board? All the pattern papers are priced around 0,28-0,35€ (US$0.32-0.40). This could be interesting. I'm giving myself a good hour after we've finished dinner to browse carefully and look whether I can find stuff that could be good fit with what I already have. |

I am going to start a freeze rather than a thaw. The only reason is because I will have no opportunity in the next few months to buy anything, I don't need anything, and I spent probably $500 at conventions in June and July. I haven't even made any effort to find homes for my new stuff. It is just sitting in my bedroom in large tote bags.
I'm feeling like just reading this thread will make me feel like a freeze followed by a thaw is a very doable thing. |

Me: *starts thread about spending accountability* Also me: *does a summer sales haul later that day* I only bought pattern papers that would complement what I currently have. And some more goodies. Everything I got was 70% off. I think I'm most giddy about finally having Heidi Swapp's Marquee Christmas trees. It's been on my wishlist for a couple of years but I wasn't comfortable paying full price for something made of plastic that would be used just one month a year. For 8€, it was a great deal. We'll finally have a Christmas tree (or three) in our small apartment.  #swag I'm ok with what I spent. I discarded some pretty papers just because they'd require I buy matching embellishments and cardstock to make them work which was a big no-no. I kept it as reasonable as possible. But I really have no excuse to spend more money on scrappy goodies until Pink Paislee's Spellcast is released which is the only new line I plan on getting. I do feel a bit guilty dropping that cash just on me.  |

I guess the next thing to do is to confront your purchases and put them properly away instead of having them lying about untouched? That ought to help ease any negative feelings you might have deep down about the spending. And get all those fresh supplies ready to be used which is what you got them for after all! Instead of thinking of the next few months as a freeze, you should look at the situation for what it actually is: a super creative second half of the year. If you bought it, you gotta scrap it!  |

I want to be more purposeful with my purchases and use up some stash and generally be more productive. I did jump on some of the sales with free shipping offers yesterday, but it was around $40 and mainly page protectors and adhesives. About $10 of it was embellishments that were highly discounted, so I'm feeling good about it. I resisted the DD sale at AE over the weekend which is big for me since I had a few things in my cart. I didn't NEED them and really didn't LOVE them, was mostly considering them because of the sale price and a few individual items in the kits. I'm pleased with myself for walking away.
I am headed to the expo next week and plan to make purchases, but I plan to be more restrained with my purchases than in previous years and get a lot done at the crop.

I don't really need to freeze on a financial level but I just have a lot of unused stuff - stamps, inks and dies - that I feel guilty about not using.
My DH is no help either. If I show him a "cute" stamp set he says "get it". He kept trying to push the Prime Day Cricut on me yesterday. Um, I already have a Cricut and a Silhouette. Why oh why didn't he see the $30 Big Shot that someone posted about? I would've jumped all over that!

Also good time for me to read this. I have some vacation time coming and I will be attending a crop. At a LSS. Sigh. I always spend way too much even though I have more than enough supplies. Not just financially, but I also need to freeze from a space perspective. I am just plain running out of room and am having to store supplies in creative places. I have spots for my albums, so I need to focus on getting the supplies into albums and out of my scrapbook room. The goal for my crop time will be to purchase less than I use, and since I am a super slow scrapper, that likely won't be too much There are also two Kaisercraft collections that I want, and this thread has motivated me to pick only the one that I want the most. |

I haven't lasted very well on spending freezes, I have no self control at all. 3 days was the longest I managed (hanging my head in shame 😞).
I am off to a scrapbook retreat at the end of this month and have decided I'm not going to go mad in the shop like I did last year as I don't really need anything. I'm not going to buy just because it's pretty or it might come in useful one day.
I will only buy a few papers that I need for actual layouts I have in mind.
Fingers crossed for me, think I'm going to need it!

Oh I so need this thread. I successfully stayed frozen through June. Then I purchased some of the Elle's Studio stamp builder pieces (and a few other things to make shipping worthwhile). On the positive side they arrived this week and I had the first products on a page less than 24 hours later.
Then today I caved on the FJ sale and bought some things. I really like a lot of her products but do not like the shipping costs. This parcel should arrive around my birthday so... that's justified, right?

My kind.  I simply cannot afford my stash to grow much at all. Everything's stored inside my wardrobe, next to my clothes. And not an American walk-in type of wardrobe. We're talking piece of furniture, two doors, voilà . My stamp collection has to fit in a shoe box. When it overflows, I just sit down, purge and get rid of a few sets. I can't have more cardstock and pattern paper combined than what'll fit into a Studio Calico SB kit delivery box. And so on. Doesn't stop me from being a happy scrapbooker though. |

I was frozen for years when my stuff was packed up. we moved to a rental for a few years when we sold our last house and before we found our current one, and everything stayed in boxes. Now that I can finally spread out, I just want to make sensible choices. I'm really trying to ask myself "are you really going to use that?" So, aside from albums and adhesive, In the last two years I've let myself buy cardstock, about 10 6x6 pads ($2.50 clearance), a few dozen 12x12 PP by the sheet (on sale), a handful of washi tapes (on sale), my Big Kick ($40 clearance), and about $50 worth of dies. Over two years, that's not that much. I actually try to find things to get excited over, but then I can't picture myself actually using products that are so vastly different than what I already own, so I don't buy them. And then there's guilt. I don't want to buy those sweet gelatos because I ignore the inks and paints I already spent money on. So, I'm actually doing alright with my money accountability-wise. I have the opposite problem. |
