I can't wait to see this! (Well, that's not true---considering there is winter to contend with in between now & then, I'd actually like it to take a nice long time between now & January, and then in January I'll say that I can't wait. ) Disney's A Wrinkle In TimeSave

I'm looking forward to it as well. It looks really good though. I found it weird though that they didn't show Charles Wallace in any of the scenes of trailer.

He was in the scene with the kids all bouncing the balls. I was thinking the same thing, and then finally around 1:09-1:21 he was there. Which was funny, because I was also thinking that they had to show that scene eventually since it is such an iconic image from that book. SaveSave

Oh, and I love the costuming for Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Which, and Mrs. Who. Gorgeous!

I loved that book as a child and am currently re- reading it at the moment. I'm a librarian at a primary school and am collecting classics for my reading group (extension) students to read. Having a movie coming out will certainly increase their interest. Next on my list is the Island of the Blue Dolphins. I know there was a movie made in the 60's but I think the story would be a great adventure movie. Same as My side of the Mountain. Both are based on true stories. (Island is loosely based)

Looks amazing! I was just talking about this book with one of my kids this week; I had no idea they were making a movie.

I think there have been at least two versions made before---one was Canadian, I believe. And while I enjoyed watching them well enough, this one I have really high hopes for. Because I think if nothing else it ought to be visually awesome to watch.

It's been so long since I've read it, I can't remember anything! I know I did enjoy the book. I'll have to re-read it before the movie comes out.

We have watched the old version of the movie more times than I can count. It will be good to see a new take.

I loved A Wrinkle in Time, but it's probably been 50 years since I read it. I have a copy here somewhere ... need to find it and re-read before the movie comes out.

I remember loving this book but I haven't read it since I was a kid. I'll have to re-read it. I've actually been planning to do that ever since I unearthed my childhood copy.

(I'll be back after I watch it.)

It was one of my favorite books when I was a child but all I can remember is the scene in the cul de sac. (LOVE seeing Bellamy Young there).
However, I don't remember it being so dark. Is my memory bad or is Disney just putting a different spin on it?

yeah, I haven't read the book in a LONG time... I remember the three -- witches -- ?? although I always pictured them dressed like homeless people, sort of, not glittery like something from Wizard of Oz. It has a stellar cast; Chris Pine pretty much means I'll be seeing it! I also remember some line about mitachondrial DNA; something about Charles Wallace being sick? (not sure if that's the first book or not, to tell you the truth).
I just went and read the Wikipedia summary of the book- reading that now at the age of 48, I don't think I understood even 25% of what that book was really about when I read it as a kid!
I just hope that their decision to make the first one means they've already decided to make all of them, no matter what. I got super-excited about the Narnia movies, and then they pulled the rug out from under me; I don't want it to happen again.

I was at the bookstore today and I heard a tween girl asking where she could find this book. I wanted to go over and gush about how fantastic a book it is and how she'll love it, but I figured that these days she'd might think I was some sort of freak, so I just smiled to myself instead.

She's legendary in our schools here because the Islands are right off our coast, so in 4th grade along with California history the students read the book and study her story. I dated a guy who had a sail boat and we would often sail out to the islands and anchor for the night. Watching the dolphins swim along side the boat was magical. I always would sit and just look out over the islands as the sun was setting and think about her. Here is a link you might find useful for your students. This is ds12's summer reading. We read the first chapter today and he insisted on watching the trailer several times to try to make the connection.
Someone mentioned Charles Wallace and mitochondria. That's the big part I remember about the series too. That is in a later book.

Found Wrinkle in Time too dense and scary (I think I was 9 when I tried to read it). Really more of a YA book than a kids' book IMO. I am sure I never would have read it at that age if it weren't for my 4th grade teacher reading it aloud to us in class. But it was taking forever, as far as I was concerned since she only read a bit each day, so I borrowed it from the library so I could read it myself. At the time I probably wound up only understanding it as well as I did because she had already explained so much of the beginning of the book, and then after I read the rest I was able to hear her read the end as well and to explain along as she read. After that I borrowed it a few more times and finally bought my own copy. Save
