So, I have finally been bitten by the TN bug. I picked up a travelers notebook w/ two inserts today at Michael's. I am going to poke around online, and pintrest of course, but I was wondering what my scrappy Pea friends were all doing with theirs?
TIA!

I use one of my inserts to keep a list of books I've read. I'm also almost finished with one I used for a house show I went to for one of my favorite recording artists. I wrote a set list and then wrote the lyrics to each of the songs along with my thoughts about it and what he said about it at the show. In another TN I have, a couple are used for art journaling, one for sermon notes and one for a Bible study I did. I love how versatile they are! Now if only I had a Sprocket printer, I could actually use them for travel journaling!

I have ordered one too - it should be arriving in the next hour! I can hardly wait... and then it occurred to me, I can never bloody open Amazon packages on my own and may have to wait until my husband comes home from work in about 5 hours, grr I've been intrigued for a while, and seeing You Tube videos lately just made me want to try it for all manner of daft things!

I just bought one also. I am on vacation hanging at my in laws for a week+., so I packed a small bag of scrapping goodies and I plan on documenting our week as we go. I will print some pics on my new HP sprocket ( which I love BTW) and will order a few prints from Walgreens as needed. I am super excited to try this new for me format. I have been watching some awesome you tube videos for inspiration.
Have fun with whatever you decide!

I use an insert for monthly memory keeping. One page per day with photos, journaling, stamping, die cuts, etc. I also have a calendar insert where what little actual planning I do resides. It's mostly for appointments. I have toyed with using an insert for books I've read. Oh, and I have an insert to track the number of cards and designs of the cards I've donated.

OK, that is just hell! I can't imagine how frustrating it would be to have my package of goodies sitting right in front of me and be unable to open it. JaneB you have my sympathy!

I use mine as sort of a project life surrogate plus a jotter. I use one booklet for random notes and lists, one for tracking packages and budget stuff, and one for documenting each month, with one two-page spread for each day, which for me is usually notes and task lists for my day rather than a strict calendar, plus a little bit of journaling when the day was interesting, and decoration in any extra space. (It's usually at least 50%-75% decoration because my days are mostly boring work-kids-clean hehe.) I've been doing it this way for a few months and have "scrapped" more into my journal booklets more than I've scrapped in years. The format really works for my newly ensmallened space and isn't as intimidating as a huge page or PL layout.
I've been considering getting a second one and filling it with watercolor paper booklets, but I haven't done it yet!

They make excellent travel companions, even if you don't print out your photos while away (you can plan accordingly and keep a note on your phone with where each selected picture goes). It's so easy to cut up paper in advance and make a slim pouch of embellishments, adhesive, pen(s) to take with you if you want to document on the spot. It makes for a different experience and excellent mood record of how you felt and enjoyed your trip day by day, quite different to trying to make something cohesive after the fact. I like them for smaller projects that require regular journaling. The TN lends itself beautifully to a hybrid format between heavier written documenting and more spontaneous/contained scrapbooking. As a bonus, you get challenged to use vertical format more ofen for your photos than the usual horizontal one. That always brings out a new focus in your photography. More personal and intimate projects as well as year-long lists (books read, movies seen, playlist of the year, etc.) work very well in a TN. Personally, I've used them to document short-ish trips and travels, sport events (like the Olympics) as we're big fans, MITL (I'm a terrible DITL/WITL/DD person as I always end up skipping several days in a row so having a month in the life once every other year is a great way to record how life feels and looks like at that moment). Might attempt DD again using this format. It might be the magical formula? (who am I kidding? I love the idea of DD but I think I might actually be allergic to it )

I never bought a cover but I used the inserts ~2 years ago to do a couple of months of projects. One was a week on the left and blank page on the right, which I used as a memory planner type of thing - notes about the days, stories, a couple of small photos. That didn't really work for me but it was a good experiment and it seems to work for other, less wordy, people. Kind of a PL substitute. I used another one that was day per page/two months on grid paper. I filled that with 30 days of Thankful and a Journal Your Xmas/Dec Daily. Words and pictures. I ended up creating a words and stories journal in the hobonichi the year after - decided that the TN didn't have enough space for what I wanted to say. But I follow a lot of TN people on Instagram and so I'm always being pulled back to wanting to try it again. Maybe as a commonplace book, or to hold book notes/thoughts/reviews. I think they work great for keeping gratitude journals or small projects (maybe the stuff people do in mini books?) I like the idea of having a few different books together in one cover - a sketchbook, a planner, and a commonplace book, for instance.

I use different inserts for different things. I will often buy the Cocoa Daisy monthly insert to use for actual planning because the designs are cute and I don't need to do anything else to it. I make most of the other inserts I use so I can customize the paper and features. I have one I use for memory keeping - sort of a Project Life space. One is for lists. One is a budget/spending tracker and also has a section to keep track of online orders and mail. One is for art journaling and creative fun. One has lines and is my regular journal for writing (as opposed to the blank one with pictures and paint). One is solely for water coloring and has a mini set of Peerless watercolors that I created and incorporated into the booklet. One is a swatch book with colors of inks/pens/paints/sprays/etc that I already own so I don't buy duplicates. If I'm going away, I make a themed insert to record the trip. I LOVE the versatility of TNs!

I've never looked at these! Do they have pockets, to stick pamphlets, maps, etc? Are some pages filled and some blank?
What do you mean about inserts?
I can't believe I've overlooked them, where are they in the store? What brand, does HL carry them too?

When you open it up, instead of rings like a regular binder would have, it has elastic bands that run from top to bottom in the spine area. You open an insert and put it under one of the bands to hold it in place. Inserts are blank booklets. The paper inside them may be blank, lined, gridded, predecorated, watercolor paper, mixed media paper, etc. I no longer shop at HL so I have no idea if they carry them. I believe Michaels carries them (both the cover and the inserts). There are many sellers on etsy that make the inserts.

Search Travelers notebook, Midori, fauxdori, Chicsparrow, foxyfix, zenkraft, Giramondo, artori, Lady Falcon.....just to name a few. Many of these companies offer different inserts, or you could check out Yellowpaperhouse, growing up goddess, frasizzle made....most of them on etsy.

We leave soon, I've already been to Michaels for a starter book to try. Usually I carry a business check size accordion file along with a bound book. I was glad to see the pocket.

I bought a Jane Davenport butterfly book with the canvas cover with a coupon at Ms. I'm planning on using it for a weekend trip we took last year.
Then I found a Websters Pages jade leather TN on clearance at Joanns last week. I guess I"m all in for TN now!!
